The food was excellent, but.....some of the items on the menu were no longer available, as we ate our dessert, staff began stacking chairs on tables ( only 9.30pm). We felt very rushed. Have dined in Isaacs many times, always good food and friendly service.....but unfortunately it was not a good dining experience. We stayed at Hotel Isaacs and cycled through the restaurants and none of they disappointed. After a long day of exploring we stopped here and had a delicious meal. The waitress was new and had trouble placing our order, but all of our meal came out fine and in one piece so no harm there. It's a beautiful location and it was warm, intimate yet modern inside. Was recommended this restaurant by some county cork locals while we were on a tour in Dublin. It was the first restaurant we've been to on our journey through Ireland that didn't have Guinness on tap, which excited me that we had found a nice local restaurant rather than a "tourist trap". The ambiance is definitely more upscale and service from staff was quite good. For my entreé I had the duck confit with a local cider. The duck was tender and had a good flavor to it. We had a sticky toffee pudding for dessert, and while it was very good, having it accompanied with creme instead of ice cream was a bit disappointing, as the pudding itself was quite rich. All and all, it was a great experience at a good price, and I'd recommend it. read more

Less than average experience. From the start, our waiter was running around like he only had several more minutes to live. He made us feel rushed with his scampering around. Twice, we had to ask other wait staff for assistance and both times they were very attentive. The "southern fried Chicken Wings" tasted warmed up and flavorless. My wife ordered a medium filet that showed up well past done. The presentation was bush league and we sent it back. The second pass was slightly better; edible. I ordered the lamb. The lamb was cooked perfectly; though under seasoned. I probably would have had no problem with the lamb had the other issues I mentioned been absent. For my father-in-law's milestone celebration, he decided to visit his hometown in Ireland, and our first dinner happened to be at Isaac's restaurant right in the heart of Cork. The ambiance is cozy with a touch of sophistication, yet it is casual. We were seated right away, and we started with several appetizers to share, such as seafood chowder with garlic croutons and crispy fried Brie with chili jam and mixed leaves, together with a nice bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon. For the main entrée, my eyes caught the attention of mild Madras lamb curry served with basmati rice, poppadoms, and side dishes. I found it flavorful, and the lamb was tender and went well with the basmati rice and the red wine. We had a great time here. This place was almost perfect. The atmosphere of this restaurant is a little classy for the outside but as soon as you step inside a little more relaxed. To start with, they have a great wine selection, with many different options for you to choose from. My husband and I both got the 10oz Sirloins, my steak was cooked a perfect med rare. However, my husband ordered his medium and it came out well done. They were super busy that night, so he powered through it and finished his meal. We were starving and didn't want to wait for another steak to come out. Other than that, the sides were all perfectly seasoned and the desserts were to die for. Our Paddywagon tour guide directed us to Isaac's but alerted us it's a little pricey! It was across the street from our Hotel (Metropole) and we glanced at the menu... sounded interesting so the last night we were in town we gave it a shot! Upon entering we asked if they had a kids menu. They stated no but could make any plate smaller for my 6 year old. We sat down an our waitress unfortunately did not know a lot of questions we had about the menu but she did go and get answers! They served us a nice selection of breads as we waited for our food. 3 out of the four adults had a chorizo pasta meal. It included tomato, garlic, basil and goat cheese. I have to say the goat cheese made the meal! it was soft and tasty! A super plus about this was they had a regular size serving and a large portion. I went with the smaller portion and it was perfect for me! My friend had the baked brie and seafood chowder. Both looked amazing and he enjoyed both. FYI- the chowder is piping hot! Had to sit for a while before it was mouth ready. My only gripe about this restaurant was servicing for children. So we chose to go with a baked chicken portion and jasmine rice for my daughter. The bill came and her meal was 9.50 in Euro's. That was .50 more than the adults Chorizo dinner. There were four tiny pieces of chicken and rice... rice is inexpensive! The chicken was a little dry as well. I did not find them to be too accommodating people with children. For this I gave them 3 stars. They really deserve 3.5. read more

We called around 7pm and got a reservation at 8:30. Super happy with how accommodating they were to get us in on short notice. Showed up, loved the decor and the staff until our server showed up. The food was amazing. The ambience was amazing. Every other server seemed pleasant and took care of their tables. My wife and I just felt like our server was cold and really judgy. We felt like she had an internal monologue of "stupid Americans" the whole time. Her comments and facial reactions to literally everything we said, or ordered was just off. I tried to make small talk asking her where she was from, mentioned that we loved her home country as we had visited there before and just nothing. She would be talking to her coworkers and then look at us, and we could just tell she was commenting about us. Aside from that, great restaurant and great food. read more

Somehow this place has a host of good awards, though I am scratching my head as to how. Very average food that I would expect from a midrange chain restaurant. Tried the Penne Pasta dish and the chicken dish - both lacking in any sort of complexity of flavor or depth. It was presented beautifully, though unfortunately the taste couldn't live up. Interior decor is fine but not impressive - feels dated. The building itself is built of stone with beautiful arches... great architecture... but they could do a lot better with the place. It's not bad, it just feels 20 years out of style and rather average. But enough about that, you come for the food and the service. The food was a disappointment, mediocre and nothing more. I noted a few critical reviews on Trip Advisor and the business replied that the customers must not have been "sophisticated" enough to appreciate what they were doing, which should have been a red flag, but I do like a little pretension in my restaurants. My mistake. This place couldn't even do pretentious. I'm not sure they would know the meaning of the word, seeing as how the server couldn't even describe any of the dishes. My biggest gripe was the terrible service. My waitress should literally be fired. Besides being rude (very terse and unwelcoming), she had absolutely no knowledge of the menu beyond "It's chicken. It's tasty." What am I, at McDonalds? Ireland isn't known globally for it's food scene, but this place was probably the worst experience of the entire trip. Cork has much better to offer. read more

This place is practically an institution in Cork. Over the years I have spent many a night here, celebrating birthdays, engagements, births, Christenings and anniversaries. The atmosphere here is fantastic. It is loud and noisy and you just know that everyone is having a wonderful time. The food is pretty fantastic too. The menu is varied and there is something to suit most tastes. The service is great and the staff are knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. I have eaten here so many times and I can't say I have ever been disappointed. It is always a first choice whenever I am back in Cork. I have been at this restaurant three times in 5 years. The service and the quality are almost perfect. The waiters are friendly and they know details about the food and the wines, they serve. Over the years the high standard has been maintained. The restaurant itself with the waterfall in the yard is always an attraction itself. Rachel Allen has proclaimed on TV that Isaacs (McCurtain Street) is her favourite bistro. She has many who'll agree with her. We had a smashing meal there. I must admit I was particularly pleased with the "Wine of the Month", so pleased in fact that I didn't even notice that they charged me €25.00 instead of the €24.00 on the menu. Started off with a lovely plate of tapas between us. Great variety. Then on to the main course. I had one of the day's specials, Turbot on spinach with a Beurre Blanc sauce. Very good. The Advisor went for the Moroccan Tagine, shank of lamb with couscous. Again top class and quite reasonable. Dessert (€7.00) was also quite good and a little different: a Tunisian Orange Cake, served with a berry compote and crème fraîche.
