Let me start off by saying the Male Manager seating guests is rude and unacomidating. There were and are plenty of tables to be seated. He decided to seat us in between guests. So we are in Ireland for my daughters wedding on Saturday. We got to Kinsale on Sunday. We've been exploring, but no restaurants really stuck out. When my daughter arrived Wednesday that's when I found out about Lemon Leaf Cafe. She's having pies delivered to Ballinacurra on Saturday for the wedding. So we had lunch here yesterday and I was impressed by the quality and taste. It's the best place we've eaten at since we've been here. That's why I'm eating here again, Friday the 29th of November. I had the special yesterday which was what they call a chicken burger but was perfectly cooked and tender chicken breast on a nice bun with cheese and Irish style bacon. The fries are excellent as well. Everyone's food was amazing. Today I had the chicken Tikka wrap. Almost like a chicken salad but better. Outstanding. Yesterday my daughter had lemon meringue pie. Amazing place to read a book and the manager here was super helpful in accommodating my allergies. I wanted a simple cup of coffee and after being rejected by numerous cafes, the manager helped me find something that works, made it himself, and then let me use the milk carton to pour milk in my coffee. Good place but I did not have the best experience. I went in there with my husband and my dog and at the entrance, they said that I had to put my dog under the blanket so people would not see him, thought was a joke so still went in to grab something to eat. My dog is a small Pomeranian so put him beside me, then I saw probably a manager (not sure) talking to the staff and looking at us... the staff then came and said that the dog had to be under the table and that was a Law in Ireland - of course, I went online to look at the law since I was shocked with the situation and the law does not mention it. Now I'm not religious but the Lemon Leaf Cafe made me throw my hands up and sing Hallelujah in this, the Church of Breakfast! The boy and I had been up since 3:30am for our early flight to Cork and by 8:30 were in desperate need of feeding. We drove straight to Kinsale from the airport and immediately found the Lemon Leaf Cafe amongst the maze of little streets. It looked lovely from the outside and boasted a decent breakfast menu so we went straight in to be greeted by friendly faces and quickly sorted out with a pot of tea. The boy opted for a hearty bowl of porridge followed by a cheese, ham and mushroom omelette while I dived right in with a full Irish breakfast (well, 'When in Rome (Cork)') You certainly can taste the difference between fresh produce and our supermarket malarkey back home. I was served up a plate of heaven - thick cut bacon, juicy pork sausages, black and white pudding, mushrooms, the freshest eggs with unbelievably yellow yolks and two slices of thick, fresh white toast. Himself was equally delighted with his hot porridge which came with a little bowl of dried fruit to mix in, and his omelette was off-the-scale. Their eggs must be laid by the goddess of all hens. All in all we left full, warmed and happy. First in a long line of great feeds while in Cork and I'm already dreaming of my future holiday home out there, close to the Clonakilty white pudding and fresh eggs! Lemon Leaf serves up a mighty fine lunch, but I have to say I was a bit disappointed that their BLT doesn't come with crispy bacon like with their breakfast items. I'm as big a fan of rashers as an American can be, but a BLT calls for crispy bacon like a mother eagle calling to her babies as they soar out from the nest. Aside from that small snafu, this cafe shines. The front is cozy like a tea room, and the back opens up bright and airy with skylights and a small courtyard. We were looking for a place for lunch and got lucky wandering into The Lemon Leaf Cafe. The exterior fails to convey the sizable dining rooms inside. We got lucky and had a table out back in a cozy outdoor patio with soaring greenery and the plesant sound of a waterfall hidden towards the back. The special of the day was Lamb Stew and it was the perfect dish on a cool, but not too cold day. It came with a couple of slices of warm bread with sinful butter. It was sunny day in Kinsale and we thought it would be nice to have breakfast here. My first time fail coming from the Yelp reviews. I really didn't find this place great in any kind of way. It was expensive, and the coffee not that good, I got a watery cappuccino. There was a ladder in the middle, and the manager moved us to another area in a very rude manner, saying that they are renovating. We ordered the vegetarian for my girl (nothing vegan for me here), and they actually came back to notify us that for scrambled egg we will be charged extra for an extra egg! It took them 15 minutes to get a coffee ready, while the place was half empty. What a disappointment. Guess what, as soon as we left it also started raining. read more

My boyfriend and I love to enjoy the little cafes and restaurants of Kinsale and thought we would visit The Lemon Leaf again today for brunch. There was a long wait for a table at 11 am, but we were seated in time to order brunch still so we weren't fussed. Coffees were lovely but food was far below our expectations and the standards Lemon Leaf tries to make the impression of in their vigorous ad campaigns and self promoting. I ordered a Benedict with bacon well done and he ordered a sausage roll and porridge. My Benny arrived with one burnt toast, one fine, two hard poached eggs, next to no hollandaise and some really pale flaccid bacon. His sausage roll was fine but his porridge was thin and very watery. The wait staff were kind and took our food back and brought us replacements which were on par with what we had expected, so we did have a good brunch in the end. When we asked for the bill I saw our server approach the manager who glared over at us, but never once made any gesture of ensuring our satisfaction. We paid our bill of €30 (the cost of brunch for 2 that took nearly an hour and 15 minutes from when we arrived at the door till when we left) but will not be racing back. read more

Three of us came in for lunch lured in by one of the advertised specials of fish and chips. The place was pretty full and only a table for two was available..... we asked one of the servers if we could move a spare seat around the table and she said "No". She did however suggest that two of us could sit around the table and the third person could sit elsewhere in the restaurant. Obviously this was not acceptable. When a table for three finally became available we were seated and our server took our order.... when we ordered the fish and chips we were told that they had run out of fish (Kinsale is a port and fishing Town.....!) My pancakes were very small as small as 2 child's hands. On a rainy day I was expecting a large stack of pancakes with a amazing maple syrup drizzled on top. But what I got was very disappointing ! Do not order these pancakes. I was even hungrier after I had eaten them.. The full breakfast had tasteless, overlooked mushrooms and the fried egg seemed to have been cooked, refrigerated and microwaved. So rubbery. And again, have you heard of seasoning ? They have maple syrup! If you've eaten at enough places in the UK and Ireland, you know this isn't very common. But this is an excellent breakfast location. Yum, yum, yum! This was one of the culinary highlights of our trip. It's a quaint restaurant off the Main Street in Kinsail. They have a cozy dining area, a sun room and a patio - so seating options for whatever suits your fancy. But that just sets the scene for the flavors your tastebuds will be experiencing. I had the hit crabmeat with red onion jam. So delicious! Several people had recommended the Blue Haven but I'm glad we opted for this instead. Lovely little cafe right in the heart of Kinsale's central area. They have 3 areas of seating: the main house, then a skylit atrium, and finally all the way in the back, a small outdoor patio - which is where I sat as the weather was lovely. On a Sunday afternoon, I found they had table service - though initially I wasn't sure as they also have a small bakery counter where I saw other paying. But, I did get table service. Tried their open-face cheese sandwich which was very good. I mentioned to the waitress that in my opinion, as good as the relish was on top, I think it could've stood well without it. 5 stars for the regular eater. 4 stars for the gluten-free eater. The hubby got a delicious looking (and tasting!) toasted special which oozed a generous portion of delicious cheese along with the usual ham, onion, and tomato... he was 100% satisfied and I would have been too just from looking at it! However the gluten-free toasted special is a bit more money for their homemade gluten-free brown bread and yet much smaller. Now, gluten-free eaters are used to this - the gluten-free breads are always smaller it seems so this didn't bother me. It was that my little gluten-free toasted special was missing that generous portion of oozing cheese, there was cheese - just nothing near to the portion of the hubby's and since the bread didn't taste very good that extra cheese could have saved the sandwich. The bread also didn't get very toasted, it was still very soft. Over all - I've heard, saw, and smelled nothing but goodness from this place during our stay in Kinsale so I would actually highly recommend it - just don't substitute for gluten-free bread there. Get soup or a salad instead and make your own toasted specials with store bought gluten-free bread in the local shops - it's actually better. read more
