Snagged up a breakfast burrito. pretty small compared to other places and chorizo was super chewy and they wrapped it in a way where the beans were on one side and the chewy chorizo and eggs were on the other side. Walking at about 4:40 p.m. not busy. Sign says to seat yourself. Only 6 tables are being used. Three of sit down and waiting a server. Plenty just standing around. 2 more groups of people come in. still no waiter or waitress comes to our table. We've waited 12 minutes. No one even acknowledged us. This place is located all Arandas and I love it. This is a Houston staple with a bunch of great locations, and while their food is far from being the best in town, they have long hours and hearty portions and are pretty good as far as Mexican food goes, with some Tex-Mex elements as well. If you haven't eaten one, it's definitely worth a try, and while nothing I've ever had here has been sensational, they're also not offering a lot of bad experiences either. Arandas is one of the most useful (*yes, I said useful) restaurant chains in the Houston area because they have a good standard of partially/mostly-authentic Nuevo Laredo-style Mexican Cuisine which tastes good and will fill you right up. And more importantly they are open way into the night. Service can be pretty good or bad depending on who is getting your stuff for you. Arandas has amazing salsa, especially the green one. (Barbie reminded me of that). Everything is good, a little on the greasy side but then so is your Dad whenever he hires me as a rent boy. Okay, it's not on the level of a La Bala on Bellaire, La Bala on Beechnut, or Regia on Long Point, but we are still talking about excellent Mexican food, even with the extraordinarily high standards in Houston. Prices are affordable and there are not many things open this late, not which are this good, especially down here in Pasadena. This was our first visit to any Taquerias Arandas. We just kind of felt "meh" about the experience. Upon pulling into the parking lot at 1pm, we were a bit worried as there were only a couple other cars there. We contemplated going somewhere else. The interior had a "diner-like" feel. We sat ourselves and picked a circular corner booth. The music was uncomfortably loud throughout our entire experience. my husband had trouble hearing the waitress when she took our order. In addition to the music, there was an overwhelming smell of cleaning products/hand lotion/perfume? We couldn't put our finger on the smell but it was overpowering and gave me a headache... along with the music. While looking around, I noticed how dirty the air vents were. I always notice cleanliness of places. Unfortunately, it makes me question how clean the kitchen is. The menu was tough to read for us non Hispanic individuals. Everything was printed first in Spanish and then in English... it was confusing and made reading the menu that much more time consuming. Each time our server came to take our order we needed more time to look over the menu. We eventually went with the #2 special: Fajitas Marinadas, the 5 taquitos meal, a kids chicken nugget meal and an order of fries. Overall, the food just seemed really bland, lacking any flavor. Neither my husband nor I cared for the charro beans which appeared to have cut up hotdogs in it (which kind of turned my stomach upon first glance.) I snuck a fry and a nugget from my kid's plate to evaluate the taste and they tasted like old grease... not pleasant to me but my kids cleaned their plates so it must not have bothered them. The chips and salsa were ok. I didn't care for the warm "tomato soup" salsa. The other one wasn't bad though. Price seemed high for what we got. With tip, $50 for 2 drinks, 2 adult meals, 1 kids meal and an order of fries. Our waitress was friendly but oftentimes when we needed her, we had to wait awhile before she came around. This was especially true when it came time for the check. It felt like an eternity when we just wanted to get out of there. All in all, sadly, we were not impressed. This will most likely be our one and only Taquerias Arandas visit. With numerous other Mexican restaurants around, we'll try a different one next time. read more

You get a variety of different options at very affordable prices. The tortillas are always fresh and flavorful. The tacos are also very tasty with juicy meats. So very disappointed! we made a quick stop (me and my kids) service is not the friendliest (not the most polite)but they get the job done lol I did have to ask for new chips they brought me old chips and they were all broken! Craving menudo, we thought a hole in the wall place like this would be delicious. My husband and I had the menudo and one of my kids had the barbacoa tacos and the other pancakes for the weekend breakfast. The menudo was unfortunately too greasy for my liking but the barbacoa tacos and the pancakes my kids enjoyed them. Might return to try the tacos or other dishes but for now, steer away from the menudo. read more

The service was horrible. When we made the waitress aware the coffee was colored water she didn't offer to change it or make a new batch. Complementary salsa and chips are served, one of the salsas wass served warm and tasted like tomato soup. My mother-in-law loves Taqueria Arandas, so we ended up here on mother's day. The good thing about this kind of place is that the menu is pretty consistent across locations, with a few unique elements. This location has a nice outdoor patio and was serving an all-day breakfast menu despite the fact that they normally stop breakfast at 11am. Considering we parked at 11:15 and I was craving breakfast tacos, this worked out perfectly for me. My wife and mother in law both went with lunch items and were pleased with what they got. My wife's tacos al carbon looked so delicious that I'll probably order them next time I go. My machacado plate (crisp beef and scrambled eggs with a side of beans and tortillas) were just the kind of thing I was looking for, and the portion was very substantial for the price. Service was a bit slow, but it was Mother's Day and they were exceptional about keeping up with a busy crowd. They had a band performing a variety of South and Central American music and were nice enough to give every mother dining in that day a free mini cake to take to go with them. The only reason I took a star off is that this place seems to be a bit confused (per a previous visit). For an apparently Catholic-owned locale (complete with a Saint Benedict Medal over the doorway), the cooks don't understand a "Lent friendly menu" which should have no meat on Fridays. One of their seafood dishes came with (unadvertised) bacon in it, which completely defeats the purpose of putting it on a Lent friendly menu. read more

Cute diner like taqueria! I ordered the 5 taquitos plate and it comes with a side of charro beans. The tacos were flavorful and I'm picky with my charro beans but they were very good! I also ordered a side of fries which were decent fries but we definitely had to add more salt. Their chips and salsa are also super good! We came on a Sunday and they were super packed so the service was a bit slow but our server was very nice. I recommend coming here if you want some tasty authentic Mexican food! read more

I have been there on Saturdays and the ambience here is wonderful, they have karaoke every Saturday and it is nice to hear some good singers some others not so good but the only important thing is to have fun. On this Christmas eve, I just want to say Feliz Navidad to my favorite taqueria in my neighborhood. I'm so happy the Arandas family took over this taqueria. The fresh interior is much spacious and inviting. The staff always greeted me with smile, not fake. I have been here since they started before summer. I frequently order menudo on Saturday and fish taco or chicken soup at weekday nights. They always have some freshly baked pastries on hand. I belief they came from its family bakery - Arandas Bakery - just half block away. I could see it from the back of restaurant. The FTR badge (first to review) should belong to Juvie C. This Taqueria Arandas on S Gessner near Beechnut started in April (according to its liquor license filed with the City). You may want to filter out those who gave 1 star - one review or no friends. Their experiences were very unusual for this friendly establishment. I can't say enough about this place! This is one of my go to spots for good taqueria food. Even though they are a chain, each location feels different and has their own vibe. If you speak Spanish you are in luck! They do too! If you only rock English that's cool too. They'll work with you. I typically get the taquitos. They are great. They have some amazing salsas that can pack a punch with the heat. So sample each one conservatively and see which one you vibe with. The rice and charro beans are sooooo good too! So get them. You won't be disappointed. The lemonade is great. I always get one. They have a nice selection of Mexican beers also. They sometimes have karaoke and live music so it's a nice place to enjoy. They decided to start cleaning half of the restaurant while we were there full on cleaner smells everywhere and mopping up the floors chairs up on tables like they were closing up. My first visit was on a Tuesday morning, about 8:30, and the restaurant only had 1 other table seated. I was in a bit of a hurry, so this seemed like a plus to me. I ordered 2 ham and egg tacos with their homemade tortillas & asked for fresh diced jalapenos to be added. I also ordered 4 tacos to go. I mentioned I was in a hurry and asked if there was any way to rush the order. The server smiled and said no problem. The 2 tacos I ordered to eat at the restaurant came out within minutes, and the to-go ones came before I finished eating the first two. The tacos were larger than expected & delicious. Their green sauce is also delicious, I would highly recommend putting it on your tacos, but it is a little spicy, so be careful if you don't want your food too hot. Living in Houston you never run out of new taquerias or taco joints to try. I've been here a few times and I neither hate or love this place. It is a nice taqueria to just relax and grab a bite to eat. My friend had the 5 TAQUITOS and I had the JALAPENOS TACOS. I normally get the torta but I felt like trying something new. You cant go wrong with the 5 Taquitos. The meat with flavorful and juicy. How can you not say no when it is only $7. But..... it's to bad I can't say the same for the Jalapeno Tacos. The jalapenos are breaded and stuffed with currizo and potatoes, but they still tasted bland. I would hoping for more flavor to pop out when I took a bit in. The chips just taste like your everyday chips that all the big Mexican joints use. I felt like they have changed the way they make their green sauce. It use to have more of a kick to it. read more

Okay so it PAINS me to write a 1 star review because I understand what it can do to businesses... but this situation absolutely warrants one. I've been to this location a handful of times and I've never had a problem, it is what it is right? Cheap Mexican food! Well on this last visit we got our queso and salsa first and we did notice a hair on the top of the queso. Whatever, we try to ignore it and peel it off with the queso film on top. Only to discover another hair... okay we're done with queso. So our food plates come out (obviously we're checking everything before eating at this point), I got #5 Taquitos and THERE IS A HAIR in my meat and my friend had a hair in her tacos!!! All the same curly black little hair. At this point we send it back, we didn't eat the food and we don't want to pay but we'll obviously pay for the drinks we drank. The waiter never comes back outside. Not even an apology, NADA. We have to go back in to pay for our drinks ourselves. If I could give ZERO stars for how disgusting multiple hair in food and for the RIDICULOUS customer service I would have. Never will I be back and if you decide to take the gamble, check that food for hair. read more
