A friend of mine recently turned me on to this place. He's been hyping it up for a while, so we finally decided to stop by for lunch. His recommendation was the tacos, and lucky for us they had a special running and 2 tacos cost my a total of $2.50. I had the chicken and he had the steak. The chicken was a little dry, but the steak tacos were fabulous. Additionally, the chips, salsa, and queso were amazing! They even bring out extra squeeze bottles of salsa to add to your tacos. The only authentic Mexican food in northern Kentucky. Every other Mexican food is some knock of Applebee's version. We are staying in northern Kentucky for the next year and are from California. We've tried over 20 restaurants and this one is the only one that is amazing every time and authentic. They don't put their money into frills in decor but they make up for it in flavor. The long list of recommendations of things to try cocktail de Cameron, shrimp burrito, any of their tacos(suadero which is pork is a favorite), their gorditas, enchiladas, and don't skimp on ordering extra salsa. The red is hot and the verde is the perfect amount of tangy and spice. I've seen multiple people come in just to pickup their large to go salsas. We sat ourselves in a back table, and tried to blend in as much as humanly possible. No chance, but we did our best. The good news? We immediately knew this place was AUTHENTIC. When every Mexican who lives around or near Florence is eating in this place, you know you're not at Chi-Chi's any more. Now - the food. We ordered tacos and an asada quesadilla (easy for the kids). The tacos are CHEAP!!! $2 for a taco. Compared to La Mexicana, you are getting more meat in the taco (and waaaay more than Bakersfield). The shells are homemade and good, but not dripping with oil like they are at Mexicana. That said, the al pastor is less flavorful than La Mexicana, but the carnitas! HOLY COW!!! Delicioso! Very flavorful, pretty salty, excellent! Definitely want to go back for those. The steak quesadilla was, eh. The chips and salsa were eh. The service was friendly and attentive. There were a few language barriers, but nothing serious. I'd love to go back and try other dishes. I noticed the regulars were not ordering too many tacos or quesadillas. This place is right next to my hotel and decided that I needed to have more tacos in my life. I ordered the cecina (aged steak), lengua and al pastor tacos and when I found out they didn't have any kind of taco plates, I ordered a side of rice. The salsa they give you with your chips when you first sit down tasted fresh, but lacked heat and salt. When the tacos arrived I asked for a spicier salsa and the waitress was nice enough to bring me two different kinds: a green tomatillo and a spicy red salsa. The rice was too salty but went nicely with the tacos. I wouldn't recommend the cecina because it was incredibly tough which makes it hard to eat when there's just one large piece rather than little bite size ones. The al pastor tasted okay but it came out almost like ground pork. It wasn't the juicy al pastor that I'm used to. The lengua was by far the best taco out of the three and I regret not getting more of them. Overall, I'm glad I came here for lunch. 3 tacos, side of rice and iced tea = $11. read more

Guys, this is the real deal. An unsuspecting spot for a super delicious, divey meal. My hubby and I both had burritos: Chorizo y Huevo for me, and Carne Asada for him. I also had the Orchata, which was so good! It was cold and refreshing, without being thick or syrupy. It went great with my burrito, which was ginormous! The prices are also super reasonable. After a recent trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, my husband and I were craving some good Mexican food. After consulting Yelp for good local Mexican, we settled on this place. We were glad we did! It seemed very authentic and the food was delicious. The prices were good too. We ordered guacamole and pico to go with our chips. They were very good, maybe not quite as good as the stuff we got poolside at our resort that was made fresh, but still very good and fresh. I got the Carnitas platter and it was a huge plate of food for $10. Now I have another meal for later. My husband enjoyed the carnitas burrito and my kids liked the quesadillas. After getting there, my husband realized he had eaten there once before with friends and he had gotten something with chicken and hadn't been too impressed. Apparently, the pork is the way to go here. It was indeed delicious. My five year old kept eating mine off of my plate. The service was pretty good also. Waiting for the bathroom with a clear view of the kitchen and a chef dropped a utensil on the floor in the kitchen and picked it right back up and started using it again without cleaning it off. A tasty Mexican Restaurant in local neighborhood in Florence, KY. The interior design inside the restaurant is unique and it will make you feel like your in Mexico. The waitress are nice and quick at taking your orders and serve it to your table. We stopped here based on yelp reviews on our way to Cincinnati. The city had some traffic so we decided to just get off and eat and it have the traffic time to clear and we had a great meal. The restaurant is small and we walked in and had a seat (because no one acknowledged us). We eventually got someone to come over and take our drink orders and give us menus. The tortas are also worth checking out- especially the al pastor with some cheese. I could go on and on. UPDATED: I came back here a few more times and the service has gotten worse. It took them over 15 minutes to bring water, napkins, and silverware. Do not come here if you are in a hurry. Also, the tortas have changed- they are no longer stuffed with meat. I'm originally from Utah and grew up with a high percentage of the population being Mexican-American. I was spoiled to grow up with great Mexican food in restaurants and friends homes. After living here for the last few years, I thought my days of great Mexican food was over. Taqueria Ramirez proved me wrong. Their food is excellent! I had the first authentic Carne Asada burrito that I've had here, and my wife had a great plate of enchiladas. They had a simple menu with all of the staples. I'm looking forward to making it back to try their tortas, milanesa, and some of the traditional plates that looked great. To top it all of, their prices were great, and both of us ate for under $20. Love the queso con chorizo! It comes out in a cast iron skillet and as it begins to harden, the taste changes as well; from good to delicious. The barbacoa tacos are excellent and so are the carnitas dishes. The baskets are piled high with meat made using authentic Mexican recipes. Yum! read more

Walking into this place for the first time was a lot like a movie scene where the protagonist first locks eyes with their love interest. I saw the classic red booths and mismatched decor you'd see replicated at Mexican groceries and knew I stumbled onto something great. I've been searching for a respectable gordita place in Cincinnati/NKY for a long time. Nearly every place I've gone to either neglects to offer them or they botch them horribly. Finding 'gorditas' on the menu here I nearly fainted. Seeing that they had legit options like rajas de chile con queso (poblano peppers and cheese) and nopalitos (cactus and cheese) almost made me start jumping for joy. I quickly order a few gorditas. When they arrive at my table I think about starting a slow clap. They pass the eyeball test--a beautiful golden, thick masa tortilla, stuffed with beans, cheese and carne asada. Good start. I take a bite and know hands down I've found Cincinnati/NKY's most respectable gordita joint. The rajas de chile con queso gordita is spilling with sauteed onions and poblano. It's tasty. I'm topping my carne asade gordita with their salsa verde and I'm feeling good. At the end of my three gordita lunch I'm stuffed. Ever since moving to Cincinnati from Chicago, I've been looking for a really good home style Mexican place. More specifically, one that carried real gorditas. When I saw that this place had them, I was a bit skeptical since other places I tried always let me down. My boyfriend and I ordered 3 gorditas (2 steak with beans, 1 rajas con queso) and 2 cecina tacos. After somewhat of a long wait, we finally got our food. It smelled wonderful even through the takeout containers. We got home and opened the containers and hugged each other in joy. The gorditas were perfect in every way, the filling to masa ratio was on point and after one bite we fell in love. The tacos we had were also some of the best we've tried in Cincinnati. If you're looking for real Mexican food, definitely check this place out. The only thing I would recommend is that if you're doing a pick up order, definitely call ahead! read more

Really good, really affordable taqueria food right here in Florence Kentucky. If you're looking for tacos with cheese and shredded lettuce and tomato and avocado and all that stuff, forget it. you won't find that here. What you will find it's something more basic, and a whole lot more delicious. Just a pair of tortillas hot off the comal with some exceptionally well cooked and and seasoned meats, with onions and/or cilantro (which you can skip if you don't like onions and/or cilantro). And, at two bucks apiece, they're absolutely delicious. Your basket comes with tacos, of course, and some crunchy sliced radishes and cucumbers to munch alongside. This is the kind of place that rewards the adventurous. In addition to all the usual items, there are some autentico gems on on the menu like cecina, which is aged beef; tripas, crunchy-fried bits of cow's or pig's intestines; or lengua (tongue) or buche (pig's face). They may sound creepy to our dumbed-down American palates, but they're worth sampling and what the heck, they're only 2 bucks. So don't be a wimp: get one and take a bite and see if you like it! It's difficult to talk about "authentic" with what one Mexican writer describes as "our original garbage food"-- in Mexico, authentic tacos are served with anything from meat to fried grasshoppers to corn fungus to fish or fresh vegetables. So instead of "authentic" I'll just say Taqueria Ramirez reminds me of some of the best family-style places I've been to in California and Colorado, unassuming little places in working-class neighborhoods tucked away in a little strip mall someplace and frequented almost exclusively by local Mexicans.
