Horchata was perfectly balanced not too sweet - all the tacos were amazing quality served with cucumber and radish and the prices on their Taco Wednesday could not be beat at $1.75 a taco. On my way home (from Kentucky to buffalo)we decided to get a little something to munch on the long road. We settled with Mexican, near our hotel. I saw good reviews for it. I'm so happy that they have lengua (beef tongue). My favorite! We decided to also order trippa (beef intestines) and beef cheek. Well I have new favorite now. The tripa even better than the lengua. It's nice, crispy with good flavor. Too bad my favorite Mexican restaurant near my house doesn't have beef intestines... only lengua. Speaking of lengua. The one in buffalo is better than this one. I had the Chorizo Con Huevo - basically a burrito stuffed with Chorizo, eggs, cheese, and other yummy stuff. The Chorizo Con Heuvo was delicious! My work colleague enjoyed his dinner as well. Service was attentive and good. I asked for some hot sauce - they brought out two squeeze bottles - which usually means they are "house-made" hot sauces. The green one - I believe was supposed to be "jalapeño"-based - had no heat that I could detect. The red one had an odd, off-putting bitter flavor to it - so I did not use either of them. This place is SO GOOD. My favorite type of cuisine is Mexican food, so I've explored many different options in the area. Yesterday evening we decided to come here. The inside has quite a bit of seating with tons of decor and cool architecture throughout the space along with some music to set the mood. The menu is vast varying from tacos ($1.99-$2.50 each depending on what you choose), burritos, delicious empanadas, soups, etc. honestly just so much good stuff. For our appetizer we got two empanadas (one each cause they are huge) and they were delicious. They only have one option which is beef and cheese that comes with some guacamole, lettuce, and other toppings to add to your bite. The empanadas literally melted in your mouth. The cheese was melted and the beef was flavored just right. Each bite was pleasant. For our main meals I got four grilled steak tacos, which were topped with onion and cilantro. When I took my first bite I was amazed. The steak was seasoned just right and had so much flavor, which most Mexican restaurants in this area lack. The cilantro and onion gave it an extra kick along with the two bottles of sauce they bring to your table. My fiancée got a grilled steak taco as well then got another entree (can't remember the name but it's pictured) and was in heaven! Haha She agrees that this is the best place to grab a bite if you want some Mexican food in the Florence area! You have to give this place a try. The portions are huge, you get a lot for what you pay, and the best part is it's super affordable! The whole menu is priced great and you'll more than likely leave with left overs! This place is definitely authentic Mexican, and appears to be a favorite of local Hispanics, due to the other people present! Hubby ordered the Chicken Fajita Quesadilla which was served with rice and beans. The quesadilla was quite tasty albeit a bit messy, requiring a fork and knife. The rice was fluffy and the refried beans were smooth. I had a grilled chicken taco and a fish taco with an a la carte side of rice. The server brought a tomatillo sauce and an avocado hot sauce in squeeze bottles, in addition to the lime wedges provided with the tacos. After reading a previous review, I squeezed some lime juice on each taco and tried each sauce individually. The tomatillo sauce added a mild flavor, while the avocado sauce was hotter, which is the opposite of what I expected! As a result, I used the tomatillo sauce since I was seeking flavor rather than heat. My rice was also fluffy and flavorful. We had one of the best Mexican food dinners last night in this small little place one would not have normally stopped, but the cars parked outside this place said something different. Main salsa was mild but very good, but they had a few other salsas; a hot red chili (it was hot), tomatillo, and I believe a jalapeño avocado sauce, all three good in there own way. Searched for tacos near me and this place seemed to have good reviews. I ordered three different tacos--carne asada, carnita and pastor. The carne asada was AMAZING, absolutely loved it. The carnita was very dry, and I just didn't love the pastor but that is more of a taste preference. My son ate about half of his kids burrito, which made me happy since he doesn't like trying new food. So I can say that if you are going for tacos it's not a bad place. The salsa was delicious with the chips, and mild enough for my kids to eat which I appreciated (especially being pregnant). Not the best I've had, but worth trying. read more

It was cramped, the table numbers were post-it notes on the wall, there were Christmas decorations all year long, servers struggled with English. But the food was always outstanding and awesomely inexpensive and all these things gave it charm and authenticity. It's one of those places that falls under one of my biggest tips of eating: if the majority of patrons are the same ethnicity as the food, it's probably really good. Non-Mexicans are few and far between here. We have always been in love with their tacos and the burrito pastor is head and shoulders above any burrito I've ever had. They've now annexed the unit next door, upgraded the menus from clip art to professionally printed and bound, and added items. It makes it less hole-in-the-wall (I use that term affectionately) but the quality is still the same. The tacos are great and they have things I've never had anywhere else, like pig stomach and barbacoa goat. The manuto is great too. I had the enchiladas suizas at our last visit and they were outstanding. They have Bell's Two Hearted for $4.95, which is at least a dollar cheaper than closer to the city, and the tequila prices feel like thievery. OVERALL: We eat here a lot. It's always great. As a Latina i love some rice and beans when I'm away and walking in to see other Latinos sitting there I'm like yes, it must be good. Starting with the nachos and salsa served at the beginning it was flavorless and the nachos looked old. But you know when you're hungry, you keep munching. I lived in California for a while and elote was everywhere! The Midwest is missing out. I ordered some and I wish I ordered two. My husband & I are from California so we are used to lots of flavor and spices, we don't get too much of that in Evansville, IN. Wonderful! The chips are fresh, and the salsa has good flavor. The quesadillas are sooo good. My brother got a steak one, so cheesy and tasty. My sister got tacos which included fresh cucumbers, which was a refreshing touch. The tacos were full of fresh ingredients, very impressive. I got shrimp fajitas, which was a large portion, and had plenty of shrimp. My sister ate my rice and some of the beans. Taqueria Ramirez caught my eye from the street several times while running evening errands near my hotel. Looking over the Yelp reviews and seeing the words "authentic" and "hole-in-the-wall" pop up several times sealed the deal. In the mood for a new experience, I asked my waitress, Helen, for advice on the selections from the taco menu that were not the typical steak and chicken options. She pointed me towards four in particular; cecina (aged beef), lengua (beef tongue), tripita (beef intestine), and cabeza (beef cheek). While awaiting the order, I nibbled a bit on the chips and salsa, which were fine but not remarkable in any particular way. The tacos arrived, served street style on two corn tortillas, with onions and cilantro, with slices of radish and cucumber and one lime wedge for each. The fried tripita taco had an interesting crunchy texture, kind of like eating small 'chitlin' bits in a taco. Interesting, but probably not something I'd repeat frequently. The aged beef had good flavor, but it was a bit chewy. This was also the taco that I accidentally destroyed with lime juice - be frugal and add just enough to lend flavor! The lengua (tongue) was quite good. But my favorite of the four was without a doubt the cabeza (cheek) taco. I felt that it had the best combination of flavor and mouth feel. Helen brought a red (hot) and green sauce to add to the tacos, but with the lime juice, I found the flavors pretty much already there, so I used them very sparingly. The cucumber slices were a great idea to cleanse the palate between tacos. Overall, I was very pleased to take that brief culinary journey, for a grand total under $10. Next time I'm back in the area, I'll happily seek out Taqueria Ramirez for another go! read more
