Taqueria Chingon offering Michelin recognized tacos. A fairly small place but they offer unique and different flavors. You get one taco per order and recommend 3-4 if you are really hungry. The tacos are really delicious and have great flavor. Definitely a must go to while in Chicago you won't get tacos like this anywhere else.

This place is crazy overpriced. Even for Fulton Market. The food is good quality and the people working here are nice. The steak is good quality. A side of rice is $5 here. Something that costs pennies to make. Even with it being Fulton Market with premium rent and staffing to pay, the pricing in this restaurants is very hard to justify eating here. They are not planning to move volume at these prices. Not sure why this place would ever become packed at lunch or dinner service the way Tacombi is a couple blocks over. Perhaps it doesn't even make economic sense to have a street taco style place on a street like this. You could open something like this on Taylor Street and lower the prices by 30% and the. It would make sense. I guess that why Jarabe exists.

Looking for a New Mexican spot by me and this is fantastic! Very quick, placed my order and picked it up within 15 minutes. Very cute place too! Meant for a quick bite. It is on the pricier side but it is worth it. I got a passion fruit mango fresca to drink and this was sooo refreshing and full of flavor. I am obsessed with this drink. We started with chips and queso. The chips are on the smaller portion side. For two people I would recommend getting 2 orders of chips! I loved the queso. It is different than the average queso, a little on the smokier side. To eat I got the Cali burrito and this is amazing. One of my favorites I have tried in the city. And the portion size is great!!

One taco is one order I recommend getting between 2-3 tacos. The squash and the special barbabacoa was really good and flavorful. Cool decor, order at the counter and they bring it out to you.

Taqueria Chingon is about as amazing as it is expensive. I had the absolute pleasure of trying the Al Pastor, Gobernador Shrimp, and Duck Carnitas. Overarching themes were of unique, well-thought-out combinations, freshly cooked proteins that were neither skimped on, nor from a hotel pan, and all ingredients in balance. Duck Carnitas - Out-of-this-world fantastic. The duck was tender and just the right amount of roasty. The veggies gave the perfect amount of freshness and brightness. Tying everything together was a delectable, gently sweet and savory sauce. I have a close friend who loves tacos, but doesn't eat any cute animals - and it's a real shame. Gobernador Shrimp - I was initially on the fence about ordering this. I saw in the photos what looked like a cigar of... something - no cause for alarm, it is just grilled cheese. The savory and oily notes of the cheese and a hearty amount of shrimp, combined with a rich, dark, and smoky salsa negra, some avocado, and some veg for earthiness. Al Pastor - This was slightly less spectacular than its colleagues. I loved the roasty, Maillard notes of the pork, and appreciate that pork is almost impossible to get moist and tender. That said, it did come off as a hair on the dry side. It's not all doom and gloom though, the pineapple added tropical brightness and sweetness, with the onion some fresh crunch! Salvation was found in the provided sauces and lime. A small hit of this and that, and the taco is saved without reinvesting it into something new. Now, for the prices: My tacos cost $9, $8, and $6, respectively. For tacos, there is no denying that is expensive, and arguably overpriced. Part of this goes to the area, Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand, and the state of the world [gestures vaguely and wildly at everything]. However, in return one gets tacos that are well assembled, unique, interesting, and with proteins that are made to order, instead of in bulk and kept warm. When it comes to their vibe, it was bright and modern, with stone and wood notes. There is also a large, colorful, inviting mural on the wall. My quibble is with the music - considering there were three patrons in the restaurant including myself, it was louder than it needed to be. As for the service, the food came out in a reasonable time considering the freshness of the ingredients. The staff I ordered with was friendly, too. Final verdict: Taco cravings come in different flavors (pun intended). Sometimes, Taco Bell gets the job done, other times, it's the mom-and-pop-shop down the street for something a little more elevated. However, when one is craving something mind-blowing and willing to spend a few extra dollars, Taqueria Chingon is the place to go.

Pork belly taco and chips and guac

50$ for 2 tacos 1 pastor 1 pork belly chips and guac and 2 drinks . Food was just very mediocre especially for 50$ nothing special about the service. Chips and guac were okay I suppose overall would not come back

The chips and guacamole were good, but were a bit unconventional with seeds and other toppings on it. My favorite item was the butternut squash taco. It had cream, crunchy pieces and spices on it that made it a delicious bite! The Huitlacoche quesadilla was good to try since I haven't had anything like it before, but not my cup of tea. I liked the ambiance in here and liked that they had a water cooler where you can refill your water.

I was visiting Chicago and was recommended to try this place by a local. It's right in Fulton market and not too far from the subway stop. I walked in and the staff was super helpful in answering my questions about the menu. I got the following: Carne Asada - my go to steak taco Duck Carnitas - Fresh Duck and so flavorful. I want another already. Campechano - mix of carne asada and chorizo (pork). It was a lot of protein. Shrimp Gobernator: deep fried battered shrimp. Not my favorite. Chingon & Famous: mexcal and aperol fruity drink. The place was clean and not noisy at all. They had inside and outside tables with a sauce station for you to customize your tacos with. The tacos were $4-$7 each and very tasty & flavorful. I'll definitely be back!

I went to the bucktown location a few times before it closed and this was my first time at the newly opened west loop location! Tacos were great as usual. I got the duck carnitas and governador, which was a bit different than i remembered. On Tuesdays they have a deal of 2 tacos, rice and beans, a drink, and churros for about $21 which was a great deal! The beans/ rice was a small portion, but the churros were huge and very airy and fresh. I just wish they served them with chocolate instead of icing. Overall still great, I liked the ambiance and uniqueness of the previous location better, but glad they still have a spot!

Ambiance - casual, offers indoor and outdoor seating, open seating - you order and find your own table Service - tacos took about 10-15 min Food - asada taco was 10/10 (juicy and well marinated steak), al pastor was well marinated but on the drier side

I'm used to paying $4-$5 for a taco, so when I saw prices ranging from $6-$9 at Taqueria Chingon, I expected the quality to match--and to my pleasant surprise, it did. The duck taco was a standout, with a great balance of flavors: sweetness from the orange, a kick from the salsa, and tender, juicy duck. I also really enjoyed the al pastor, which came with pineapple and was full of flavor. The only one I'd skip next time is the carne asada. While the steak was nicely cooked and tender, the flavor fell a bit flat compared to the others--it was the only taco I felt needed salsa. Overall, definitely worth a visit.

Very tasty food! Excellent variety and combination of interesting flavors. Since moving to this new location, there are plenty of seats indoor and outdoor. You order at the counter and then pick it up when it's ready. Servers were friendly. I would give it 5 stars but it's really pricey. Nice for a special treat!

Went to Taqueria Chingon while I was in town, I got a couple different tacos and they were delicious. The service and ambiance are nice, it's a new location so they were painting a beautiful mural on the wall while I was there. I'd recommend this spot and also recommend trying something different!

They truly go above and beyond to make sure they deliver great customer service. They'll do little things like offer you a free taco of their Birria while you wait for your food. Go to any market in Mexico and they'll treat you the exact same. Unfortunately for them their original Southside location is closed due to a fire but they'll be back hopefully soon! My son and daughter both ordered their Birria Tacos, my wife ordered their Quesabirria tacos and I ordered their Tazon Chico of their carnaza Birria of course. It also came with a side of their handmade tortillas. Everything tasted so fresh and the Birria was very delicious. So much flavor in the consome. Ordering the tazon is definitely they way to go here because you get the meat in the consome. But if you wanted meat only, you have the option of ordering their plato instead. Despite their well-earned fame, this spot keeps the humble, hole-in-the-wall energy intact, small, unpretentious, and staffed by some genuinely warm and welcoming people. Pop in, grab a seat, and let them do the rest. My fiancé and I shared the quesabirria combo, two quesabirrias with consomé, a Mexican Coke, and a Jamaica, and honestly, everything was amazing. The Jamaica alone deserves its own shoutout: perfectly balanced, not too bitter, not too sweet, and exactly what you need to cut through the heat of the food. The tacos came out piping hot, prepped right in front of us, loaded with cheese and packed with flavor. The consomé was warming, rich, and perfectly spiced, the kind of broth that makes you want to tip the bowl. And the accompaniments (onion, cilantro, peppers, lime, and salsa) give you full control to doctor things up to your liking. For spice lovers, this setup is a dream. My one gripe, and the sole reason I'm docking a star, is the price. At around $30 for two tacos, a consomé, and drinks, it's a tough pill to swallow. As a Mexican American, there's something about that price point that pulls me slightly out of the authentic experience I was hoping for. I fully respect the craft and passion behind this food, but it's worth noting. That said? Don't let it stop you. This food is incredible, and I'll absolutely be back.

Really awesome space at a crowded downtown location. Foods were served on nice metal holders or disposable/environmentally friendly containers and utensils. The tacos were huge, and I love that they focus on the variety of vegetables on the taco, which is often overlooked at other places. Veggies also make the taco look beautiful. I particularly enjoyed the tikka paneer, the paneer was soft for paneer but firmer than tofu, a really great texture. And the flavor wasn't overpowering. The tikka sauce was light, which I am totally fine with. The chicken quesadilla was also made well and of good value, the kids all really liked it. The salmon was good too but didn't really stand out as much, but appreciate the variety veggies on top! The mexi-Cali shrimp bowl was not bad either, but also didn't stand out much. The shrimp was good but I prefer it cooked even lighter if possible. Flavor was good tho. The rice was long grain, which I prefer, but they do give quite a lot, I ended up having quite a lot leftover. I wish the had a bit more cilantro or other herby mix to increase the depth of flavor, but overall still pretty good. Queso was also really good, thick and creamy, not too salty, but sadly the kids didn't like it as much. Husband also liked the gochujang pork a lot, said it was actually really really good.
