this is my favorite place to get bubble tea. and i've tried it at quite a few places. i usually get the milk tea with tapioca but, currently, i am on a big hazelnut milk tea kick. i like to order it with tapioca or coffee jelly if i am feeling like changing it up a bit. so good. and always consistently good, too. because of tap house, i will often hold off getting a milk tea anywhere else if i know that i will be able to make it here in time. it's just so much better here. read more

Ordered the lavender milk tea and my friend ordered taro milk tea. Both items were just okay - the lavender didn't have the floral flavor composition I was expecting, and the taro tasted like a creamy vanilla more than anything else. I did appreciate that the tapioca was fresh and chewy (hate it when the balls are hard! ...tee hee). If it was possible for me to give them no stars, then I would have selected so. I sent my husband in 15 minutes prior to closing to order a drink while I waited in the car. When he walked in not one person acknowledged him. In fact, they did proceed to speak in their language to where he had to ask him if they were closed. That's when one of the guys there informed him, the kitchen was closed and so were they. First of all, if your sign says 10pm, then you close at 10pm. Apparently Tap House is where you go, after you had dinner at House of Bowls. Or if you are a teenager with no where else to go at night. I'm not a big fan of tapioca. I've never liked the chewing and slurping concept of the tapioca balls. Luckily, they did have shaved ice here. My husband and I ordered the shaved ice with strawberries, condensed milk and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It was good but would have been better if they sliced the strawberries. It was prices at about $4. I've also had the the popcorn chicken. What I really like about their popcorn chicken is that they also fry the basil to give it some extra flavor. I am really, really, REALLY late to reviewing this place, since I've been going to this place since high school (which is over 10 years ago...). I like this place! I love the plethora of flavored milk teas offered and that they actually offer EARL GREY milk tea (which I have rarely seen offered at any other tea houses around town). The tea is good; it has a strong tea flavor and they use a good balanced amount of milk + sugar. The tapioca balls are always of good quality also. They are chewy, soft but I personally prefer them to be slightly more chewy/melty but that's just a personal perference. Back in HS I believe they only accepted cash (annoying) but now they accept credit cards with a minimum purchase, which is better than nothing! The crew has always been friendly and fast. This place is truly a Chinatown classic! I've been coming here since I was 6 or 7 and it has always been my favorite tapioca spot amongst the vast variety in the Bellaire area. The environment is comfortable and clean, and they have a huge selection of drinks and snacks, so there's definitely something for everyone! You can upgrade to their large drink for only 55 cents more, and they always have affordable deals where you can get a main dish with some sides and a milk tea. Service has always been fast and good, so that's a plus also. Their drinks are awesome! Their tapioca is probably one of my favorites, just because it's fresh and has just the right amount of bite. Their milk tea is really good too, and isn't too sweet. My favorite thing here, however, are the chicken nuggets. Get them spicy! Great place to study and have some delicious snacks with boba. Yum... I got the "Litchi Green Tea" with "Lychee Jelly" and it was yummy. I also ordered a side of fried tofu to snack on and although that was pretty tasty, the chicken nuggets are definitely a lot better!!! Decent drinks, great popcorn chicken after Hokkaido. The atmosphere is OK but not when it's jam packed with high school students. I've been here more recently and the guy at the front was alot more friendly then the guy today.. when placing my order I asked for bigger cup of Jasmine milk tea tapioca with honey.. he asked me something about green tea I said okay sure.. I said no ice please he said that's extra. I said why most places just don't fill it all the way. He okay we can but it will be in the smaller cup ( the cup I was already paying .55 each more) so he actually made me a tea that had honey no milk..I didn't want to cause any more issues.. he seem frustrated since he was taking a phone call for thier business... so I took my drinks and left.. I was very disappointed with my visit today... I actually really like the drinks here especially the teas.. I hope the guy isn't rude again if I come back on my future visits..(there wasn't a language barrier.) read more

Chicken Nuggets Combo makes this place, in my opinion. I only come here for this combo. The chicken nuggets have different levels of spiciness. Zero spice - level 5. I always get level 5, because it's actually not that spicy. It sounds scary, but it's perfect. The nuggets are crispy and hot every time! The combo comes with rice with ground meat on top. Sides include bean sprouts, boiled egg, and green beans. Everything is seasoned perfectly!! I could eat the bean sprouts all day! The combo comes with a small drink. I believe it has to be a tea or milk tea. Very simple. I usually get the jasmine milk green tea with tapioca. I tried their new noodle bowl one time, and it just totally rubbed me the wrong way. It left the weirdest feeling on my tongue, like my tongue was numb. I have no idea how that happened, but I expressed my concerns, and they replaced my noodle dish with the nuggets with no hesitation! I really appreciated that because I honestly could not eat those noodles. Lots of tables! It can get a bit dark inside, especially if you sit in the back. Employees are nice. I said in my last review that I wanted to try the 'meal', and I have to say I really regret not trying it earlier. When it comes to good value for money this place is nearly impossible to beat, especially since a tapioca drink is included. This is usually a regular-sized milk tea, but in my experience, they'll let you up the size or get another type of drink if you ask nicely (and pay the price difference). Anyway, for a 'meal', you choose your meat item - the chicken pieces as I said before are great, and even though I did try the calamari, even that can't match them for tenderness and flavor. You also get a scoop of white rice with shredded meat (beef? pork?), a hard-boiled soy sauce egg, stir-fried mung bean sprouts, and sauteed green beans. The quality of everything is pretty much great; nothing's soggy or overcooked, even after being taken home. If I could change anything I guess it would be the egg (hard-boiled was never my preference) but I doubt that they're cooked to order - getting food out fast is their priority, and they do that great. Overall, I highly recommend the full meal over the 'snack', which is just the single meat item. Paying the extra is definitely worth it. One word of warning though - the portion size is HUGE. Seriously. Don't let the price (a chicken meal is just $6.95) fool you. Even when I'm really hungry, I really do struggle to finish everything. If you're going to eat here, make sure you have someplace to put the inevitable leftovers! read more

Tapioca House might be the cheapest of the many Taiwanese snack/tea shops in Chinatown, but unfortunately also the worst in my experience. You kinda do get what you pay for here. DRINKS: Milk teas are $2.77-$3.00 for a regular size (16 oz), but you should always get a large (22 oz) for only $0.55 more. Very cheap and the milk teas are pretty good for the price. They have some noticeable tea flavor and aren't too sweet by default. I can't tell if they use real milk or not, but it's blended really well if it's non-dairy creamer. Ice levels are above average, filling up 1/4 to 1/5 of the large cup or 1/3 of the regular sized cup. Definitely request less ice if you get the regular size. Their tapioca pearls are also not bad. Well cooked, bouncy and chewy, probably coated with honey. But they're not sweet at all. If they were sweetened a bit more, they might be some of the better tapioca around. Better options nearby would be Twinkle or to a lesser extent, Teahouse. FOOD: $5.05 for a meal with rice, or $6.25 when combo'd with a regular sized drink. Definitely the cheapest Taiwanese rice plate/bento box meal I've seen in Chinatown. But I haven't had good experiences with the food. Crispy pork chop steak rice - Comes with steamed broccoli (WHY?), a rubbery hard-boiled egg, bad rice topped with mystery meat (tasteless pink-colored mush that I assume was supposed to be ground pork), bean sprouts + bean curds, and fried pork chops. The bean sprouts and bean curds side was about the only good thing in the entire box. Everything else was TERRIBLE. The fried pork chops had a nice crunchy breading but it was way over-breaded and there was very little actual pork chop steak. By far the worst fried pork chop rice I've had in Chinatown. Seems like this place is getting worst everytime I come which is not often. We came during peak time after lunch and th ey ran out of tapioca and banana. I ordered almond milk tea but tasted like monin syrup flavored almond which doesn't taste very good. I've had almond powder base milk tea which taste much better. The atmosphere is definitely better than their Austin location (crowded and gloomy). The service I've gotten hasn't been the best, but they aren't horrible. I usually get the chicken nugget combo with jasmine milk tea--yum! I do get weary of the overcrisped chicken and grease on my lips, but it does well for a quick meal. I only ask that you never..never! use the restroom at this place. It is disgusting. I don't know if it's gotten better or not since last year, but I'd rather not chance it. The drinks and food is good but the staff is a challenge!!! I like their mango milk tea and taro milk tea w tapioca balls. The balls is kind of yummy. I prefer their drinks than The tea house ( less sweetened , good for me! ) and be 100 times better compare to the Twinkle stands on their opposite side in Welcome plaza.The food is a must try though :) I got their fried mushroom and squid balls yesterday. My favorite Tapioca place in Houston! All the drinks are good here... My fave is Mango Green Tea... It's seriously like crack... You can actually order per gallon too... hahahaha... I was an addict... thankfully now I can control my addiction to their mango green tea... First impression: this place smells like cigarettes, even though there's an immediate sign outside that says no smoking. This place is definitely well priced, but the drinks here at just mediocre. Got the almond milk tea with boba and mango jelly, and was slightly disappointed. The location is well placed. Currently there may be difficulty accessing the location due to construction on Bellaire. It is pretty easy to spot once you enter the plaza it is located in. The interior is nice. There are different sitting areas most of which can seat 4-6 people. The lighting is a bit dark in the evening, but I guess its a "chill" place so it doesn't matter that much. It is definitely a lot cleaner than the Austin location that I've been to. The food here is a lot cheaper than in Austin as well, but I guess that is to be expected. The service isn't exceptional. The people who work there don't seem particularly happy or interactive. I suppose this is to be expected. I guess you're not paying for the service, just the food/drink. Overall, this is a nice place to come if you have need a tapioca place that is open a bit later than 9 pm on a weekday. Also be aware that they have a $5 minimum for credit card use. I don't come here very often, but a recent visit has shown that tap house has remodeled! The interior is now nicely lit and decorated in a both simple and stylish manner. I was sad I couldn't stay, but I got an oolong milk tea with tapioca to go. The order came out super fast and prices here are great! The milk tea itself sadly didn't have the oolong taste I was looking for and the tapioca wasn't chewy enough, but it was a solid drink. Almond milk tea! Had my first one here so I'm spoiled...and have not enjoyed one from another place. The tea/almond milk ratio is perfect. You get the initial semi bitterness from the tea at first, but then the sweet and creaminess lingers in your mouth once you've swallowed. I haven't had anything else, nor will I ever bother to.
