My husband and I love coming here when we need to get out of the house. We bring our books to read and laptops to reply to emails, ect. I also like how families come here. I love how the Jasmine Milk tea actually tastes like jasmine! I usually get a Jasmine or Earl grey milk tea with boba and pudding. It's really hard for me to order a tea that's over $5. They charge an extra .35 for orders under $5. Even with the added .35, it's still under $5. The popcorn chicken is also pretty addicting. The first time I came here I got the Yogurt Frost and regretted it. I thought it would be a creamy drink that included yogurt (kinda like a smoothie where the yogurt adds to the taste, not take over the drink), it literally tastes like yogurt with chunks of fruit on top. I think that's how the drink is suppose to taste, I just didn't like it. The atmosphere is clean and modern. Sometimes it does get busy, but we somehow always find a seat. The downside is that there are no outlets, so come with charged laptops. I got the honeydew milk tea with tapioca and fried chicken. The boba was just the right texture not too chewy and not too soft and it wasn't over powering. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because of the chicken. It was good and crispy but it was covered in basil, which I don't like and didn't know came on it. So even though I got regular fried chicken it was basil fried chicken. Next time I'll have to make sure to say no basil. Other than that everything was really good. Walk up to the counter, order your bubble tea and/or Taiwanese food, then wait at the end of the counter to pickup your tray of food. Then bring your food back to the table. Before sitting down, wipe away the food remnants from the prior guest then begin to enjoy your meal to the jazzy tune of Taiwanese Pop music videos playing in the background. The drinks are sugary sweet, sometimes too sweet. The food is greasy and rich. Lots of fried appetizers. Asian comfort food. The pork belly rice is decent and cheap too. The restaurant could be a tad cleaner, but this is all part of the food court dining experience. It wouldn't be the same without it. Pleasantly surprised with this place! It is a chain - but I think this place has one of the best boba on the east side. Whenever I go to a boba tea place - I grade it based on the classic - Black milk tea with boba - this one is great! Not to sweet, can still taste the tea. Boba chewy and slightly sweet. I like mine with pudding added in as well. Food - even though this is a boba place - it's food is actually quite decent! Good for a quick, pretty inexpensive meal. I like the railroad bento with the popcorn chicken. I sometimes drive there and just get the popcorn chicken! (similar in taste to ones I've eaten in Taiwan). I think there are a few misses - for example, their noodle dishes taste a little microwaved. Now that's it's the summer I like how they have real fruit smoothies - none of that powder stuff for me! The first time I came here (right after their grand opening), I was blown away by how amazing the drinks tasted. The snow bubble was just the right amount of sweetness and the tapioca pearls were nice and chewy. I went back again last night with the same great expectations and was severely disappointed. There were several consistencies of tapioca pearls ranging from frozen to icy to crunchy. When I asked the server why the pearls were clumped together at the bottom, the server coldly replied it was a normal occurrence with cold drinks. I really like the bubble tea here. I usually go for either oolong or almond milk teas and they are very good. The drinks are a bit sweet but tolerable, and you can always ask for less sugar. I also like the small tapioca/boba for ease of consumption, but they never seem to have it in stock. That being said, a lot of times they don't even have the regular sized boba in stock! Oftentimes my boyfriend and I will come later in the evening (but still considerably long before closing) and they will flat out tell us that they do not have any more tapioca. Aren't you guys called TAPIOCA express? Additionally, 99% of the time, the staff members working do not seem happy to be there. Most of my transactions are pretty swift and painless - usually I already know what I want, so I just take my order, give them my money, then step to the side and wait. So I came in here the other day and I was informed they had absolutely no tapioca balls!? I don't know why they wouldn't have any since the place is called Tapioca Express. The customer service was lacking there was no explanation to there being no tapioca or an apology. I got the Matcha Snow Bubble and it was pretty good, with jelly. The matcha flavor really came out and it wasn't overwhelmingly sweet. I just wish they went lighter on the sugar or had sugar free things because 67 grams of sugar is well over 3x the daily limit and 700 calories for one drink is insane. The inside of the store is really nice. They have manga/books you can read. I ordered a regular milk tea with big tapioca, and deep fried fish balls from this place. Thinking this is going to be good. (Judging by the varieties on the menu, like "wow, they do sell lots of authentic Taiwanese food"!) When I got my tea, instead of the big tapioca, they fill it with the "small" tapioca. That's a big no-no. I grew up drinking boba tea, and there's no way I'm sacrificing myself for this. I went back and kindly reminded the lady that I ordered my tea with the big tapioca, and she replied, "oh, sorry, we're out of it. Didn't the cashier tell you that?" I was like, "NO, SHE DIDN'T." She just reached out to the cashier and yelled in Mandarin, "hey, you forgot to tell this customer that we're out of big tapioca." That's it ! I mean if this ever happens at Starbucks, they would remake my drink or at least try to make my experience better. This place doesn't care. Get your tea and GO ! They were out of regular tapioca, and they just forced me to have something else. Once again, big tapioca and small tapioca are two different things. Deep friend fish balls are greasy. This spot is never empty, always lively with young people (and sometimes monks) having tea and snacks with their friends even close to midnight. Except for one girl who was friendly and upbeat, every other worker I've ordered from has been morose and seemed like they hated their lives. I have only ever ordered the black milk tea and jasmine milk tea here. They both have good tea flavor, a nice milky consistency, and a good level of sweetness. I am not a fan of super sweet anything and their milk teas are palatable to me. I actually haven't had the tapioca here, just the grass jelly. Sometimes the jelly is cut too large and I couldn't drink any through my straw. Once I got home, I had to cut the top of the cup open and pour the entire drink into a glass. There aren't very many good bubble tea places east of Seattle. If you're having a craving for bubble tea (because EVERYONE totally does) and want mediocre bubble tea, come to Tapioca Express. It's VERY spacious, so you could totally hit up your friends and have a hang out there. Even on a rainy day, because rain is SOO rare in Seattle, you could chill here and play some board games that they have or even read manga from their bookshelves. The pork rice lunch set I thought was a pretty good deal, good portion. However the flavor left me much to be desired. The pork I felt was under seasoned, rice was a bit mushy. I am glad that there is a place with a large variety of drinks near the MS campus. However, contrary to most bubble tea places, they are very inflexible with their order (eg. how much sugar etc.). I wanted something without sugar this morning, and my only choices were green or black tea. Mind you, the green tea was very good, and very floral (jasmine) but sometimes, I will want a kumquat tea and plain green tea just won't do. I got a bento box to go, which was a combination of ground pork on rice, and a chicken steak. I was shocked by how little ground pork there was on the rice. Both the chicken steak and ground pork had a pronounced taste of powdered packaged spices one can get at the grocery store. One mouthful, where presumably the spice was not spread evenly yielded a chalky mouthful of this powdered spice. I've been here multiple times now. Service here is extremely slow even when it's not busy. There's been a time where they forgot about 2 of my drink.... And they blew out the power even before my drinks were made so I had to switch to some type of tea instead. I wanted a refund for one and agreed to change for the other. They have a huge drink menu and the quality is pretty good. We haven't eaten there but it seems like lots of people like their Taiwanese food items. Will definitely tryout their food sometime. Because they're so busy they're not the most friendly, but I don't really mind it. We still go there every week and get our drinks there. Bad. I come on Tuesday night and they not busy at all. When i come in, no one was care about me. They just stand there and washing something. They even come up front to accept their delivery order but they still dont even look at me. I had to stand their for another 10 mins.
