    Mushrooms with bacon and frites
    Christine M.

Delicious modern Portuguese tapas in a sleek, inviting setting. Stone walls that felt a bit like dining in a cave. We ordered three dishes--the clams with chorizo, bacalau with spinach, and the mushrooms with bacon and frites. The portions were quite generous! Memorable meal, albeit a little on the salty side, but that's what my water was for. The staff was professional and attentive. Bathrooms were tidy. I would recommend and return when visiting Coimbra again.

This was one of the best meals I've had in PT. They have tons of options for gluten free eaters too. We probably ordered too much because we didn't realize the traditional Spanish tapas portions are really Portugese portions - huge. Octopus and sweet potatoes was the best octopus I've had; the bacalhau a bras was so creamy I thought it had cheese in it. We had the cheese board too- perfect. My husband had the steak and then French fries with egg and mushrooms. We also had 2 bottles of wine. Grand total (plus a small tip) 80€. We could have easily eaten 2-3 things instead of 5. Highly recommend. Also try to get there closer to 7, the place got super busy by 8. Also live fado at the surrounding bars so it had a lovely ambiance

Clockwise from top :Lamb chops, French fries, provolone, salad, tuna poke and bread.

We came here twice on our short stay in Coimbra. Highly recommend the Lamb Chops grilled and dressed with honey and almonds, the Provolone cheese that comes bubbling in a hot plate and the tuna poke, served with avocado, quinoa and tomatoes. Sitting outdoors and hearing the sounds of urban conversations and watching locals and tourists bustling in this hilly street makes for a lovely European experience

GREAT authentic local tapas in a modern setting at the heart of Coimbra, right next to Fado Centro. I can't believe it hasn't been reviewed before. It must be new! The flavors we sampled were varied and authentic. Smoky peppers and batatas bravas, spicy local sausages and hams, briny sardines, etc. Service was exceedingly friendly and helpful. Prices are low, most tapas costing 4 Euros or less (charcuterie is a bit more), and portions large enough that 2 per person may be too many. We hadn't found many worthy food recommendations up near Coimbra's historic university area, which makes this find extra special.

We made reservations to eat here but they didn't have our table when we arrived. I am not sure why the reservation wasn't in the system but luckily it wasn't very busy that evening so we were seated in a few minutes. We started off ordering a pitcher of sangria and I really enjoyed it. We then ordered a bunch of tapas. The items we really liked were the lamb chops, mushroom, and padron peppers. Overall we enjoyed our meal and I think this is a great place if you are looking for a tapas restaurant.

Traditional Portuguese cream of vegetable soup. Sometimes with cream, sometimes not.

The advantages of doing research before taking a trip. In Coimbria, I needed a place for a solitary lunch to get away from my tour group, which was seriously getting on my nerves. The restaurant is located up a steep hill, a few doors from Fado Centro, and provided one of the best meals of my trip. If you get a chance to check out Fado Centro, by the way, you should. After consulting with the handsome server whose English was better than mine, and taking into account my time constraints, I had one of the best sangrias I've ever had, almost like a boozy fruit salad, with pears, apples, and oranges. Then the traditional version of the classic Portuguese cream of vegetable soup, which sometimes contains cream, and sometimes does not. I was expecting my eggplant stack to be somewhat like the Italian style which I'm used to, but this was a very simple presentation: grilled eggplant, tomato reduction and mozzarella Baby lamb chops with honey and almonds rounded out my lunch. Unfortunately I didn't have time for coffee or dessert, but hey, now I have an excuse to get back to Coimbria.
