A very charming restaurant around the corner from our hotel. Very nice menu and wine list at reasonable prices. Also great service. My wife started with the Vegetable Soup , very good. I opted for the Garlic Shrimp which had their heads on, also very good. My wife chose a funky dish for her main, looked like ham and eggs, 4 fried eggs over Spanish ham which is over potatoes. Unique and great. I chose an excellent trio, octopus, calamari, and shrimp over small roasted potatoes. Accompanied by a vegetable medley, squash, zucchini, carrots , and mushrooms. Great. While In Combria for the day/night, our hotel recommended this spot. Very cozy atmosphere, recommend reservations if possible. We walked in as they opened, but noticed how crowded it for before we left. Everything was delicious, cooked perfectly, and terrific service. All the appetizers were well portioned, enough to share. This restaurant was very close to our hotel and it had very good reviews so we called for an early reservation on this Saturday night. Good thing we had one since the place was very busy. As usual we sampled some of the local wines - for the most part they are all good and reasonably priced which is very nice. For dinner we tried the garlic shrimp, the risotto, and the smoked salmon - all were very good. The only disappointment were the soggy and lukewarm frites. This warm and modern interior was a nice contrast to the rest of Coimbra. Highly recommended. read more

The hits: - Fried shrimp with garlic sauce was excellent - French fries with garlic mayonnaise was tasty - Foie gras with apple and muscatel wine cones were yummy - Beef syrups with Serra Della Estrella cheese sauce The misses: - the chicken tempura with bbq sauce was more like battered chicken/chicken fritters. Chicken was cooked but it was just so so - the sauce balls with mustard sauce was underwhelming Be sure to make a reservation as every table was reserved when it opened for dinner at 7:30 pm. We had 2 nights in Coimbra and this was one of the spots that was suggested to us to try. We attempted to drop in for a bite on our first night but they were booked so we made reservations for the following night. This place is busy so I suggest getting a reservation if you want to try it out. I stuck with an assortment of tapas and the wife went for the pork tenderloin. First up, the fried prawns in garlic we're very tasty. They required a bit of work because of the head and shells being attached but I always feel like it's part of the experience so didn't mind. Solid dish and solid flavors. I believe we had about 8 prawns in our dish. Next up I had the foie gras. It was unbelievebly creamy and served in a sugar cone which gave a nice texture to it. Topped with a little sweetness from some type of fruit puree, this dish was a favorite of mine. After that we had the sausage croquettes which were not great for me. Something about the sausage and mustard sauce didn't work for me. For my main I ate the beef Pau Pau (I think that's how it's spelled) which was a rich assortment of seared beef strips in a garlic butter and white wine sauce. It was pretty delicious but cooked a bit unevenly as some pieces of meat were rare and some were medium well. For dessert we finished up with an apple tart. Tasty and a slice of home. Overall I would recommend this place. It is on the more expensive side for Coimbra but overall a solid pick for a nice night out read more

Excellent service, broad and flavorful menu. Foodies will appreciate the subtle flavors, kids will love the street tacos. We had an 8-course meal for two with wine and port for 116€! I had to check that they hadn't left the wine off the bill. In the US the meal would run closer to $200, with worse service. Beautiful dining room as well. Great spot for lunch right in the center of Coimbra. The restaurant seemed quite full during lunch but we were able to snatch a table by the window. Their menu is more of a tapas style which lets you try various dishes. During this visit, we tried the pataniscas de bacalao , the scrambled eggs with mushrooms , sweet potato fries and the sausage wraps. By far some of the best pataniscas I've had in Portugal. We arrived at 1330 which was a good time as many tables emptied right after that. All the appropriately designed aspects to make for a pleasant lunch. 3-1/2 stars. We started off with an espumante: Quinta das Bageiras, Bruto Natural Rosé, €12. Very dry and crisp. It went well with the couvert. Our second wine was: Campolargo Bica, Bairrada, €16. A full-bodied white, golden color, tart and complex. A good match for the food. Tracie had one of the Sugestos do Dia: Wrap de Rosbif, arugula and bacon. Accompanied by a large salad: carrots, lettuce, corn. The wrap had sweetish bacon, rare beef. A nice change from heavy traditional fare. I had the Polvo a Lagareiro for €11. A large octopus tentacle with boiled potatoes. The octopus was tender and flavorful. We saw a review for this place on TripAdvisor - mostly for lunch, but we decided to go late evening. And what a place. Extensive local wine card, so we started with a dry Spumante (champagne in Portuguese) and then decided us for the small local plates. It made the evening. Sitting at the table just sharing loads of good food and local wine. What's not to like - and the food was very tasty - and the staff very helpful in guiding in the direction of what you like in food. The reason for not giving Dux Taberna full score is because of the place itself. For a romantic evening this place is too little romantic and serve more as a ristorante or a cafeteria than a romantic restaurant. This is though forgotten when the food arrive. It's simply too good for a ristaurante or cafeteria. I will definitely come here for lunch too. read more

Everyone was extremely impressed with the quality of food, service, and value. I consider myself a food conisyuour and am as well price conscious. We had a wonderful dinner for two on a rainy Wednesday night. No wait around 8:30pm. Excellent service, all of the waiters spoke fluent English, and the food was delicious. We had the beef carpaccio, tomato salad, picanha steak, turnip greens and dessert. Pichanha steak was fantastic and perfectly cooked, everything else was good and fresh. We went sighting around Coimbra, Portugal which is north of Lisbon. We selected DUX for dinner and we were not disappointed in the least. The restaurant has a very upscale vibe to it. Our server, Filipe, was great. He explained the dishes and types of ingedients used. The service was top-notch! The dishes resembles tapas in which you can share with one each other. But, it's sized bigger! Yay! We had the foie gras (apple and moscatel) in wine cones, pata negra smoked ham, Iberia black pork grilled strips, prawns fried with garlic, salted cod fish a bras, beef pica pau, pannacotta with blackberry juice and creme brulee. If you love ham like I do then you cannot afford to miss out on ordering the pata negra smoked ham! It's the best thing you will ever give to your taste buds to savor! The beef pica pau was ordered to be cooked as medium. It was really spot on with the flavors. We loved the inventive flavor combination of the foie gras in wine cones. The fried prawns was flavorful and the sauce had a bit of a kick. We were stuffed to the gills and wanted more to eat. You definitely will not be disappointed with this place! Pro-tip: Have the hotel make the reservation for you. Also many restaurants in Portugal are closed on Sundays and Mondays so call in advance to be sure. read more
