Stuffed mushrooms
Bojan P.

5 of us came here on a Sunday at 2200 to have dinner. With 6 tapas, and 5 drinks the bill came out to 65 Euros. Food: (5 stars) Cod Stuffed Mushrooms: (5 stars) likely the best thing we ordered. Mushrooms with bacon and cheese: (4.5 stars) pretty good but not as good as the cod stuff ones. Sausage and cheese plate: (5 stars) A good variety of both, would recommend if you have a larger group. If it is only two people, would choose something else. (It is a pretty filling portion) Shrimp in Garlic Sauce: (4 stars) this is a very tasty portion, a bit on the smaller side. Caprese salad: (4 stars) it was good, nothing amazing. Pork Sandwich: (4.5 stars) really good, not the best for sharing. They no longer have draft beer, only craft beer for which they charge 4.5 Euros. Service: A bit slow, but nothing horrible. They speak pretty good english. They do not accept foreign (non Portuguese) credit cards, so we had to pay with cash. Atmosphere: (4 stars) There are only a few tables here in a pretty quiet street.

After touring the sites of Coimbra we were looking for lunch and found this highly rated place on our walk down from the University. We were the first to grab an outside table and soon the other three tables were filled. That was it for patrons so you would think that the kitchen/ waiter could handle it. Nope. The waiter was the most inefficient server I had ever witnessed... This was one excruciatingly slow meal. The food itself was a mixed bag the sausage was quite tasty as was the mushroom with bacon. The bread of the ham & cheese sandwich was very dry and the can of sardines was... a can of sardines. I cannot recommend unless you want to linger over lunch for 1.5-2 hours. Also they only take cash.

This place was a local findings in Coimbra close to the Se, with some delicious tapas, very fresh and well seasoned. We also had the potatoes, but didn't have time for the picture because it was so good, with garlic and olive oil. Highly recommend trying the dessert!

This is what is left of the shrimp in garlic sauce.

What a fantastic place to have a late night dinner. My wife and I showed up around 22:00. It was chilly outside but very warm in the restaurant. We a great meal with a bottle of wine and it was only $37.50. It is easy to miss the restaurant because there is no flashy sign outside. Not only did we have a great dinner but we also had some wonderful entertainment. The chef in the kitchen had a continuous stream of 80's music, we loved it. Not only was he singing but he also had some awesome dance moves. Do not miss this restaurant if you are in Coimbra.

This small restaurant is a true gem hidden in the ruas of old town Coimbra. The host is kind and willing to chat and explain every recipe, and while she cooks she even entertains the audience with fado. The menu is simply delicious, bacalhao in the many variations, entry plates with cheese and cured meat to try, fine wines and traditional liquors. Reccomended.

This restaurant is delicious. The garlic shrimp and sausage and cheese tapa is a great shareable dish and one of my favorite dishes I've had in Coimbra. I will definitely return here if I come back to Coimbra!

Simply delicious and healthy : good products, good preparation, nice service in English, Spanish or Portuguese. The only issue was that I missed a piece of bread to enjoy the delicious garlic prawn sauce... ;-) Just go and you won't be disappointed

A friend in Coimbra took us to this spot where she is a regular. We didn't each much, but we had a couple of tapas to go with our wine. The shrimp and bruscetta were nice, but not extraordinary. The wait staff were very nice, but not very attentive. We probably would have eaten more and had more wine had they paid us more attention. It's a very cosy spot and worth a visit.

Such a lovely find in a touristy area! We stopped in Coimbra to see the chapel on our way to Evora but wanted to grab a bite and were worried we would not find anything palatable and here we find Maria of Portuguese! We were under the impression it was vegan only as it have the option for menu items but were happy to find it was not a vegan restaurant at all. The service was lovely, the ambience very eclectic and the food quite tasty! If you are lucky and the chef likes you , she will give you a taste of the homemade spirits as a thank you! Very enjoyable experience!

Our favorite spot! Only five tables inside, super cozy. The server was singing the entire time!

Great place close to the Old Cathedral in Coimbra. They are just a little bit slow but really nice and the food is tasty and not expensive.

Not to say we didn't have alot of good food, but here each dish received high marks. The chanfana is the local special, so would highly recommend you get that. All of the meat was done well... Crispy outside and fall apart, fork tender on the inside. The staff were also very friendly and personable.

Our waiter, Raphael, was courteous and helpful with the all Portuguese menu. We ordered the house white wine and a bottle of still water. The wine was very good but very inexpensive. We started with soup, my wife with vegetable and me with seafood. While hers was good, mine was rich and flavorful and excellent (I had others in Portugal but this was the best). Then we had salad and chorizo sausage. Salad was adequate, but the sausage was done to perfection. Then came my wife's entree of pork cheeks with potatoes and a delicious cabbage mix. I had their goat, served in a pot with a luscious gravy that was perfect for dunking your bread in. With it were boiled potatoes and spinach. The spinach was pan seared with oil and garlic. The potatoes went well with the abundant gravy. Topped it off with the home made almond cake with a side of ice cream. All this for 75 euros. We came back to our hotel stuffed and satisfied. The only problem was yelp has the address wrong. I have included in the photos their card with the correct address, about a half block from the old one. By the way, they do take credit cards. Enjoy!

Excited to try this local 7 table gem while in Coimbra. Lisa E. (always right) suggested lunch…read moresince dinner cues start an hour before opening and waits can be another hour or more. We arrived at 12:05 pm, second in line behind a group of 8. Seated 20 minutes later in cozy quarters. Fresh rustic bread on the table. Menu difficult to decipher but we had a translated copy on our phones. We ordered a jug of house tinto, and half orders of aporcolhados mushrooms, roasted wild boar and grilled ribs with special sauce. The kind waiter said we ordered too much, we didn't agree until a huge crock of rice and beans hit the table with the 2 meat dishes. The mushrooms were cooked with bits of meat and bone as well as slices of traditional and blood sausage. Fabulous! I loved the tender boar slices accompanied by roasted cabbage and potatoes. Lisa favored the slightly charred ribs in a spicy vinegary sauce. Oh, and that rice, I promised her I wouldn't post the photo of her devouring the last bits from the serving ladle. So, too much food? Nothing a outdoor rooftop nap at our hotel wouldn't cure. Breakfast today was the leftover boar with the hotel's scrambled eggs.

This is the type you spend a lot of time nibbling on and trying to get every last piece of meat out. It was incredibly flavorful with hints of bone broth, truffle oil, and various spices. I think I spent like 5 minutes on each piece trying to get every piece of meat out. It came out piping hot, the fresh aroma smelled like a mix of beans, thyme, garlic, and truffle and I smelled like it afterwards. The lamb stew was also delicious. I am allergic to lamb but had to try it this time and was not disappointed. This is the only time I've actually liked a lamb dish because the gamey flavor was not there. It was cooked very well. The vomit dessert was not too sweet and unique. It cut through the savory food I just had here. Quantity- all of this for 25 euros. Totally worth it. This would have easily gone for 70-80 dollars back in the states. We get a lot in each dish. Atmosphere- loved the college town vibe here. The place was cozy but had enough space so we weren't cramped. Service- awesome waiter. He was funny and gave great suggestions on what to get. Tipped him a lot for the fantastic service.

Tired and hungry, we seeking a relaxing lunch when we walked by this restaurant with 3 tables outside set with tablecloths and wine glasses. So, we stopped and walked inside to a quiet elegant dinning room. (We did not even check Yelp. We just entered.) Started with a light, refreshing vinho branco: Torre de Coimbra, Bairrada DOC 2016, €12.50. Tracie was dying for a salad so we ordered the Salad de Tomate which was a plate of red ripe sliced tomatoes, olive oil, vinegar and a sprinkling of dried oregano. Hit the spot. She had the Escalopes de Porco Champignons (€11). Pork cutlets with a velvety, rich mushroom sauce accompanied by rice and fries(!). Exactly what she wanted. I had the Rojões a Avorinho (€11). Braised, bbq, short ribs with potatoes, cabbage. Carmelized to perfection. I was very happy. Ate it all. Dessert was the house specialty of 3 custards and was the only disappointing item. OK, but bland. However, the coffee and aguardente made up for it.
