To be honest, I've never flown with TAP Air Portugal because my flight with them was canceled due to COVID, but I have spent over 3 hours on the phone/on hold with them so far, which roughly translates to half of a trans-Atlantic flight, I suppose. And I feel that this time we've spent together is enough to justify this negative review. The long and short of it is, when I bought my tickets with TAP Air Portugal, I opted to pay an extra ~$100 for a refundable flight, and--despite that, and after waiting a month and a half--I still have not received my money back from them. The long and long of it is as follows: Even if you purchase a cancellable flight (again, for more money), canceling through the website only grants you a flight voucher (good for one year only). In order to request a cash refund, you need to call them (nowhere was this mentioned when I bought my ticket, by the way; I had to call them to figure out this nugget of information). The phone number listed for the airline in many places is no longer in service; there's a different number you need to call. Each phone call requires 30-60 minutes of hold time. I've been randomly disconnected from these phone calls multiple times. Most damning, each time I call, I've been told contradictory information. When I called on May 2nd to cancel my flight and ask for a refund, I was told that my request was submitted. Awesome. When I called back on May 18th, wondering why I hadn't received it yet, I was told (for the first time) that I should wait a month to expect my refund, so I would have it by June 2nd. Then, when I called after June 2nd, again wondering where my refund was, the rep I spoke to tried to inform me that I hadn't requested the refund until the 18th (even though the previous rep had confirmed that I requested said refund on the 2nd). This new rep also told me that I should wait a month to a month and a half beyond May 18th for my refund. The one consistent across all the reps I've talked to is that they won't lift a finger to provide me any extra information. I've requested email messages to confirm what we've discussed. I've requested reps' extensions in case I get disconnected (see above). Nothing. Whenever I hang up with a rep, I have to rely on their word that the information they've provided me is accurate. And at this point, I have little faith in that. In short, their customer service is some of the worst I've ever experienced, and I've had to deal with cable companies, phone & Internet providers, you name it. I understand that COVID is probably making things difficult for them to provide refunds promptly. I get that. However, I would be much more understanding if the company were open and transparent with me, instead of using misinformation as a delay tactic. I also believe that there are probably a lot of individuals out there that need the value of their flight refund much more than TAP Air Portugal right now. So what's my advice for you, dear reader? If you want to try Air Portugal, maybe their actual flights are fantastic. Maybe their flight crews are ten times more helpful than their service reps. Maybe boarding one of their flights takes half the time that calling their customer service hotline does. Maybe each flight they offer is a vibrant oasis of ephemeral bliss in these dark times. But if my experience with them is any indication, probably not. And I'd definitely recommend steering away from TAP Air Portugal if you expect you might need to change or cancel your flight, because there are airlines out there with much better customer service. So TAP Air Portugal isn't worth your time or money if you might need some flexibility in your travel planning. read more

I asked flt crew about the hours delay and as far they were concerned it took off on time. To be perfectly honest, I'd never heard of TAP Portugal before, but had a nice time flying with them. I really liked that TAP offers different pricing options for travel plans. You lose a piece of luggage, but if you're a light-packer, then the flights are a really good deal! My friend and I bought a one-way ticket from Boston to Amsterdam and it was a pretty good experience overall. We purchased everything online and bought the Basic plan which included a checked bag for international travel. The plane was new and clean, with a blanket, pillow, and complimentary ear-buds available for use. There was a surprising amount of leg space and the seats were very comfortable; they reclined a lot more than I thought they would. The entertainment screens were all touchscreens and there was a pretty good selection of things to do, watch, and listen to. Also, as someone who hates putting my ear buds on the seat when I have to go to the restroom, I really appreciated that knob/hook for hanging ear buds. They had an electrical outlet too. The food was nice for airplane food -- we were given the option of chicken or fish and the flan for dessert was pretty good!Service was also friendly. Now, onto things they could improve -- on our connection flight to Lisbon, we arrived 30 minutes late. It was crazy since the plane had left on time and there were no delays. We actually missed our flight and they had to put us onto the next available one. It was just a little inconvenient since we basically lost half a day just sitting in the airport. Though, I will say that it was convenient that they had our new boarding passes printed and ready the moment we landed; we also got a free food voucher (but it doesn't make up for losing half a day). Planes are sh*tty & old. Staff is inefficient & rude on the flights. The ticket people are lovely, the gate people have no information about anything & worst of all is the flight crew. Snooty and give arbitrary orders (like you can't use the bathroom, as we wait for the plane to be fueled on the tarmac for 15 minutes) We had a couple scares when the ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SHORTED OUT!!!! We hadn't taken off yet & the ENTIRE PLANE shuttered and ALL SYTEMS (lights, engine EVERYTHING) DIED!!!! That was on flight TP 1049 ON January 5,2019 I'm on flight TP 1352 right now, on January 5, 2019 and THIS is the flight with the PARTICULARLY RUDE, CONDESCENDING & COMPLETELY INCOMPETENT flight attendant (female late 20's-mid 30's, dark roots/lighter ponytail) who has a God complex and no customer service, or common sense & this is also the flight that was so mismanaged that it caused us to miss our connection in London. EXTREMELY DISHONEST COMPANY! THIEVES WILL NOT RETURN MY MONEY!! Originally lured in by their very low fares like many others, I soon came to understand exactly why they were so low. All three times I have booked with TAP, my flight has been rescheduled to a different date by 48+ hours. The first two times, it didn't affect my itinerary, but the third time completely screwed over my plans and I was forced to cancel the flight. I was told I would receive a full refund to the original method of payment in 30-60 days, and patiently waited that period of time although I did not understand why it takes that long to process a refund when my money can be accepted in 30 seconds. 60 days later, I still haven't seen my refund, and spent an hour calling customer service only to find out that I will have to continue waiting an "indefinite" period of time due to "high demand." Perhaps if everyone received their appropriate refund in a timely manner, the demand would not be so high... I will NOT be booking with TAP Air again and I urge you to seek another airline and not be lured in by the low fares unless your travel dates are flexible within a range of 2-3 days! read more

Shame on you, supposedly the #5 ranked airline in the world!!!!! We experienced the worst service we've ever had traveling to Europe out of more than twenty previous ones. Your plane was late leaving Miami Airport on October 28th on flight 224 bound for Lisbon, and then a planned transfer onto flight 864 to Venice. . The scheduled flight was to be approximately 4:30 PM. Your 4:30 flight didn't leave until after 6 PM, late by 1 1/2 hours. We were assured by more than one TAP agent that, "don't worry. we'll provide". By the time we arrivede in Lisbon, and checked through the lengthy customs line, your flight flight 864 left right on time, without regard to the dozens of customers including us who missed the connecting flight by a matter of minutes. Couldn't you have known in light of the mess at the Lisbon terminal that there were people with connecting flights, and just wait ten minutes for us to reach you. We tried to book the next flight to Venice, but that plane was full. Our only alternative then was to book a flight to another city which turned out to be Milan. After a nine hour wait in Lisbon we boarded the TAP flight to Milan which was also late . There we rented a Eurocar , and proceeded to the 4 hour drive to Venice Airport arriving at 1:30 AM. We found a way to drop the rental car and walked with all our bags a considerable distance to the terminal where we caught a taxi. to a hotel. Finally, after that ordeal, and a few hours sleep, we managed to meet the cruise provided bus to our ship in Ravenna. The rental car cost E230, and the taxi at 2;00 AM at the Venice airport cost E20. Additional meals due to your poor service cost another E45, so the additional costs incurred due your poor service cost us E295. I'm taking the time to write all this because our several previous experiences with TAP were OK, so please consider refunding our ticket cost, or at very least compensate us for the additional "poor service" E295 cost. I'd give them a zero if I could. Worst customer service of any company I have seen. Extremely long hold times with dropped calls after waiting over 1+ hours. My wife and I have three phones going trying to get a hold of someone and no success in 7+ hours. The upcharges are insane. To pick seats and add baggage from Miami to Milan cost $900. I will never fly this airline again. It's a scam! My husband and I traveled with a carry on even though our ticket paid for a bag each. We were very delayed and had a tight connecting flight. So we decided not to check in. We had no issues leaving Italy with the bag the attendant approved it. On our connection we had 35min to make it to the gate. We finally did and a lady pulled us to the side and told me us we needed to pay for the carry on and I explained to her that we had no issues on our previous flight. She said $125 for each bag. I told her to check my booking I have a bag each included just please gate check them. She said no we need to pay. We asked to pls check the booking she said pay or you will miss your flight. She was very rude and claimed to be a manager. I felt like we were profiled from the moment we were approaching the gate. No one else with a carry on got pulled to the side just us. Buyer beware booking on TAP. The crew on the airplane were rude. We booked premium seats but were not given those seats. The agent in London Heathrow Airport went out of her way to be disrespectful and rude. When we missed our connecting flight due to late arrival, TAP rebooked us through Chicago. We saw that Chicago was already having weather issues due to it snowing there. We asked to be rerouted. TAP said NO. This flight was our only option. When we got to Chicago we were grounded for hours. This trip that was scheduled to take 15 hours took 30 hours. TAP didn't not refund the cost for the premium seats. Never fly on TAP. It took them eleven months to issue a credit voucher to which they said I was entitled. Eleven months! Their computers evidently are antiquated. I often can't check flights lately. I flew on TAP from Seville to Lisbon a few years ago and the crew neglected to inform us that TAP ran out of room for checked bags for about a dozen passengers. I am a college professor and I must be home that Tuesday, so I can go to work on Wednesday. They changed my flight to that Wednesday. To top it all up when we got to Lisbon they couldn't find us a direct flight tp LGW so the we had to flight to Faro. Again they booked us a flight from faro with BA to LGW . We flew round trip from Boston, via Lisbon, to Funchal a week ago. We'd flown previously on TAP from London & lisbon & that experience was horrible, our reservations somehow ended up as standbys. This time the experience was much better, our reservations and seat selections went without a hitch. The Airbuses are pretty new and the in flight cabin service was good, the meals, Sangra beer & wine, bathrooms, etc. were also fine. Our luggage were checked all the way through and arrived at the destination without incident. Only problem was the Stone Age immigration process in Lisbon (not TAP's fault). There must be over 500 people waiting and only 1 immigration dude working due to shift change. I had to yell out I had a Funchal connection to make & managed to bypass the lines. We found the checkup counter clerks very pleasant this time, at Boston, Lisbon & Funchal. And the cabin crew was professional & efficient. Not many connecting airlines from USA to Funchal, so TAP it is. Actually the short connecting time in Lisbon was due to the cold freezing weather in Boston on 1/1/2018. TAP used to be a trustworthy company, however management decided that they should steal all their clients money during a pandemic. From personal experience I've booked a flight for my parents in April to visit me in August. About two weeks before the flights I called customer service to inquire about COVID guidelines and safety measures, just to be informed that the flight has been cancelled. No one had notified me or my parents. There was not even a courtesy email! Apparently the airlines CEO was just planning to keep the money. Obviously I requested a refund for the 1600$ I spent, and was informed that hopefully in two-three months I would get a full refund. Once that didn't happen, I made multiple calls to customer service desk. I always spoke to wonderful employees who just couldn't do anything to help. Always the same answer "We are very sorry, we can add a note to your request or you can email a refund department, but that is all we can do" and I believe the hourly employees are doing the best they can! Please be nice to them if you call, it is not their fault! However the airline (o the CEO Miguel Frasquilho and Chairman Antonoaldo Neves) Have received over a 1.3 BILLION USD bail out from the EU government and just decided that they will not refund their clients. They also laid off a lot of employees. So the question is. Where did the money go??? Answer... probably to their pockets. We flew TAP airlines from Miami to Rome via Lisbon and then back again. The price was right when I booked the tickets. I had never run across Portugal airlines in any capacity. My wife started to read the reviews so we were apprehensive when the day to fly arrived. The cattle call in Miami was a nightmare but when isn't it? Once the plane was in the air and the crew took over I saw what a gem I had picked to travel on. They exceeded every expectation I had in every catagory. The return trip was even better. Extremely rude staff, and flight connections are impossible to make. I purchased a set of flights to get from Minneapolis, MN (USA) to Hamburg, Germany that included stopovers in Boston and Lisbon. Landed in Lisbon with only 35 minutes to get through passport control, security, and check in. They put me in the very back seat of the plane, and it was a huge plane. I asked to be moved up so I could make my connection and the attendant was super rude, asked me why I'd scheduled the flight that way and didn't move me. I didn't schedule it that way, the airline did...? A-hole. When I landed, sure enough I missed my flight. I went to the TAP counter to get a replacement flight so I was stuck in the 9th circle of hell that is Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport for like 8 hours. The TAP attendant gave me a set of flights to get to Hamburg where I was landing in Frankfurt at the same time as my next flight was boarding. I panicked because I foresaw the same thing happening again (thankfully it was Germany and they have their sh*t together so we landed early and I was able to make it to Hamburg). I complained to the attendant that my flight looked impossible to make, she smiled at me sarcastically and then told me I'd have to run or take the train and pay it myself. Awful. Just used this airline on return flights Madeira to USA connect in Lisbon. Both flights were delayed and the plane wasn't even at the gate by schedule boarding time. One delay was justified due to air traffic at Lisbon. The delays were not terrible about 20 minutes which would only be critical for a tight connection ( not my situation). Beware of Lisbon airport. It's like a ghost town with nobody to assist and if you don't ask when you deplane you will not know wtf to go. A bus takes you from the tarmac to the main terminal. TAP does not post The departure gate for connecting flights until one hour before boarding. And.. there is no personnel at the gate until that time as well. Nobody for information unless you ask someone in passing who is in uniform. You must go through a Passport control checkpoint even if you are already cleared from your first flight and are simply connecting air side in Lisboa. Hence another line. Do NOT ever use a connection time less than a minimum of 2 hours preferably 2 1/2 in this airport and most other international transfers. The plane service personnel are polite but that's about it. They are sometimes abrupt to the point of being rude. But I noticed this characteristic of service personnel in Portugal as well and it is likely a cultural thing. They are not overly " friendly " people by American standards and rather quiet, reserved and polite but not helpful unless asked. None of The flight personnel stroll the aisles at all during the flight and they do not clear garbage in flight very readily. You must ask for drinks beyond the official food service, they fo not pass by in the aisle to see how you are doing. So I think they need to improve their attitude is all. I had a very good trip from Malpensa, Milan to Lisboa, Portugal with TAP Airlines. However, they need to make the seats more roomy for longer flights; such as 4hours+ otherwise people can get irritated with limited leg room especially if the person in front of them decides to push their seat back. Prior to getting on the airplane the staff made its passengers wait an extra 15 minutes to get on the airplane because they weren't ready to board which is a little ridiculous considering our flight was said to leave at 11:25 and did not actually leave until 11:45. TL;dr: basically just make more leg room and board people on the plane at the correct time and that'll be lovely. Overall a good flight, and friendly staff. read more

Called customer service TSP and requested ticket booking class for a specific flight in economy plus as this information is not available on their website. This information can be seen on all other Star Alliance airlines. The answer I hot was that customer service had no idea what ticket booking class!? They could only say that TAP only shows economy or business class on the website and he had no idea what it was and was not willing to help. Fact is that you can pay high costs for business class tickets but a very low ticket class and thus only getting 50 % of milagre. LOUSY AND BAD. Tap Air Portugal is the most unprofessional Airline that I ever had to deal with. Their website is difficult to navigate, at best. Their customer service is not helpful at all when you finally are able to reach them. While trying to book seats on line for 4 people some of the seats were recorded and some were not. If you try to go back to the site it will not allow you to do so. After trying for very many tries I finally was able to get through. I explained the situation and I was transferred to the the proper agent. We went over which seats were were registered and the agent charged my credit card with the balance. When I received my statement I noticed I had been overcharged. After calling back trying to clarify the situation I was told by customer service that they could not do anything and I must register a complaint through their website. After filling out the complaint form I forwarded it with the pertinent proof. Here is what I received back. Dear Sir, TAP hereby informs you that we have analised your claim and the 52.28CAD charged twice are referred to the documents 954-00985XXXXX and 954-00985XXXXX issued by XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX. We had so many options when trying to find a flight from Lisboa to London. Reading some of the reviews of the 'cheap' airlines and hearing the horror stories of luggage limitations my sister in law was dealing with to get to London from Dublin, I wasn't really comfortable with going with the cheaper flight since we were on a tight agenda once we landed. I can't really complain about TAP, but I can't really exclaim about anything either. My only frustration was when we were descending they had said something over the PA about not needing a landing card if you weren't an EU citizen. Maybe the flight attendant we confirmed with didn't realize we were staying in London for a few days, but she was incorrect. We did in fact need a landing card. So my only advice - regardless if you're passing through or stopping for a few days - is fill out the card anyway. Even if you don't end up needing it you can always tear it up later. read more

I had the rudest, most unprofessional experience with the crew of TAP today. I was given a seat in row 9, which is an exit row. I mentioned to my partner that the seat belt was not as generous as the same flight 4 days before where I had the same exact seat on TAP on the same class of plane with no problem. He asked the flight attendant for an extension. She brought it and maybe 10 minutes later she said I had to move because "certain types of passengers" can't sit in the exit row. I asked her which type of passenger she was referring to and she said passengers that require an extension. I removed the extension and showed her that I fit fine in the original seat belt that was provided. She then took the extension away. After this she decided to bring 3 more people to my seat to continue to embarrass me and insist that I move. I asked them to please explain to me logically why I'm being moved for needing an extension if I clearly don't need an extension. They said it was because I had ASKED for an extension and that changes my "class as a passenger". At this point I just felt like I'm being discriminated against and I asked to see a copy of their policy where this is explained so I don't feel like I'm being singled out. The purser said he would show me after we were in the air to get me to move, which I did because I didn't want to delay the flight for other passengers. Once we were in the air he said they weren't supposed to show me and that the captain wouldn't allow him to. Why would they have hidden policies that discriminate against people? If they really felt like I needed an extension it would have been logical for them to bring it back, yet I flew the duration of the flight without one. I have flown hundreds of times in Asia, Europe and the United States and I have never been treated this way before. I will never fly this airline again. read more

Flew them from Newark- too long a layover in Lisbon- en route to Praia and the same thing on the way back. Staff did what they could but the flights were just uncomfortable and dreary. Terrible terrible airline: Made me pay €75 for a carry on bag...each way...because it weighed 16kg. €150 total. No entertainment system ( broken) so no music, movies, TV, etc for 7 hour long flight. Even the reading light overhead was mostly broken. Departed 35 minutes late. Food was disgusting...even for airline food. I am very strict about being COVID compliant (I am vaccinated including my booster) and checked twice before flying about the necessary protocols for flying to Ireland and at no point in the process did it say a negative test was required. In your check in specifically, I completed the travel locator form and checked again and it never specified a negative test. I chose to fly with you all because you seemed logistically sound and appreciated the lower cost, however you have now caused more expense in the long run that I ever could've imagined. I have now missed a day of my trip, had to book two additional flights, reschedule a planned tour and change our hotel and paid for a last minute test. I would appreciate if you would consider revising your check in process to be more explicit and issue a refund or some form of compensation. Do not fly this airlines. Terrible customer service. Upgraded my seats and paid the upgrade. Realized I was in an exit row and changed seats ..... they charged me full price for upgrade a second time. Went to airport and upgraded to business class and they would offer no refund on either upgrade in seats I had. They changed seats for friends with us at NO charge..... they ended up in seats I paid for twice! Really beloved this was in error so I contacted them.... they did nothing for me! They do not credit upgraded seats even if you pay twice. In all my years I have never heard of such a thing. Almost seems illegal to sell same seat upgrade over and over. I am done with these people! This is the airline from hell - and I have seen my share of bad airlines. I will avoid these guys going forward because their customer service is dire. So here goes: I was travelling with a friend and she was booked in business class and I was in economy (why? Long story. I won't bore you with that). I tried to purchase an upgrade so we would travel together - no success. They have a bid system to request an upgrade and by the time I knew that the bid was unsuccessful it was too late. No other option was offered to acquire an upgrade, let alone a little sympathy for our desire to be seated together. Finally, the miserable guy at the business class check in desk disappeared for 5 minutes without a word and came back with two boarding passes with seats in Economy. He failed to mention that all other perks had been revoked as well, so when we tried to get into the lounge, access was denied. I guess the miles credited will also be based on an Eco fare. The guys in the lounge were also less than helpful, all they offered was that I can talk to TAP if I have a problem. What else: tight seats, lousy food, very limited drink options and unfriendly board service. TAP, never again. Or as Cartman from South Park would say: Screw you guys, I'm going home. read more
