Tap is a hotel bar & restaurant in the Hilton. The windows & outside overlook the "dead river," which has an ominous name, so I looked it up. The "river" is somewhat stagnant, dries up quickly, and then reappears after a rainfall. The only thing dead is the river itself.... thus has the nickname. I'll keep this review simple. Pros: nice ambiance, outside areas, good variety of local beers, full bar, friendly and prompt service, happy hour specials on both appetizers & alcohol Cons: expensive, limited hours For pricing context my shrimp Cobb salad and a water came to $30 pre-tip. Looking for a dinner restaurant in a different town n wanted diff cuisine n stumbled upon Taps n Bitters. Nice location at somerset hills hotel. Nice restaurant n friendly staff but a little on the slow side. Creole / Cajun menu. We ordered the signature gumbo n kale salad . Gumbo was good w generous amounts of shrimp n andouille sausage n came w dirty rice. The kale salad too waz good w crunchy pecans cranberries n chickpeas. Lots of flavor. Picked the blackened mahi mahi Taco and jambalaya for entree. Just the right portions n delicious. The tacos came w dirty rice. Had plenty of LO's for home. We saved some room for desert- had the beignets w chocolate sauce and chocolate bread pudding. Both were heavenly. The bread pudding was a big portion. Couldn't finish it. So took it home. I wanted to grab something to eat and stopped in at this restaurant. When I arrived I parked in the private lot. The restaurant is located inside the hotel. I walked in and sat at the bar. Mauricio was my bartender, and he was very nice. They had happy hour with great options, but I started with an espresso martini, and it was tasty. I then had a good glass of red wine. For food, I got the mahi mahi tacos, and it was filling. I had a really good experience all in all. read more

Food was ok. They have a small menu and the service was average. My girlfriend ordered a a dry martini with a splash of vermouth.. it was basically all vermouth. They remade it an it was much better. Second drink she got a sparkling wine and it was flat. Sent it back once again. Atmosphere was loud. The old layout before they redid it was much better and conducive to larger groups. They get a lot of weddings here considering it's in a hotel. Overall I would not recommend this place. If people wanted to go, I would go again, but I wouldn't go on my own. read more

We had a large group of 20 and made pre-arrangements with the restaurant manager. When we got to the restaurant, there was no information about our reservation. Apparently, the manager left early and never told the waitstaff (1 star off). After some calls with the manager, we were told that a private room has been reserved for us. We got to a room at the back of the restaurant, but there were no tables set up at all (1 star off). We then asked if they can create a new row of tables for us, which they did. When we started ordering, we made the process very simple for the staff: everyone ordered one drink and one entree. There were no appetizers to share, no special orders, and no dietary restrictions. Two of us did not get our drinks and another two of us did not get our food for about an hour (1 star off). When every one of us finally got our food, the food was not good. The waitstaff told me the mahi mahi tacos were really good, but the fish was overcooked and not seasoned at all (1 star off). The beans-and-corn side tasted like they were reheated from frozen. The only thing that I liked about my entree was the dirty rice side. After dinner, I attempted one more time to order dessert...and you guessed it, the waitstaff forgot about it (1 star off). Some of us wanted a second drink, but they just gave up. All the cocktails are pre-made anyway...kind of like their beans-and-corn side. read more

Interesting experience! Even though it's tucked in a hotel, we had some really good food and a nice date night here. The brussel sprout appetizer was so good I think we are every last morsel. Yummy cocktails, good beer options. There was a snafoo with my order. I ordered the Impossible Burger that was supposed to come with an aioli spread. It did not. When the server was talking about the burger she mentioned that a lot of vegans get it, but I did not say I was one. I believe the aioli was omitted because it was not vegan. But, once I told her the issue she brought me out a dish of the spread and all was good. My spouse ordered the tacos and thoroughly enjoyed them. We tested this place out recently. It is a hotel restaurant. As such, it may have a bit of a captive audience, since there were screaming kids eating there as well. We easily had a table ready. Although the bar has a printed menu, they didn't have all the beers they advertised. The restaurant was not very crowded when we arrived, but seemed to get more crowded by the time we finished eating. The wings were pretty good and the food was also pretty good. The service was very slow. As I intimated, I think this place is fine for hotel patrons, but as a local, it is a one and done for me. read more

Tap & Bitters has a great vibe and upscale decor, especially considering it is in a hotel in a suburban area. The staff are nice. The food is mediocre and average in my opinion. It's nothing amazing but it's also not bad. Most of the appetizers, such as the wings, seem like they're cooked from frozen, not fresh, which I dislike. read more

The apps were really good here. I want to come back and try some of the other entrees. The bolognese was tasty and I just did not prefer the chicken sandwich. Looking for a brew and a light meal, this place really hit the spot. Starting with the Grilled Shrimp and Shishito Peppers with Sweet Chili Glaze, Thai Basil Sea Salt it was a sign of an excellent entrée to come. For dinner, I ordered the Fish & Chips -- Daily Catch, Malt Vinegar, Beer Batter, Tartar Sauce, Buttered Smashed Peas. My only complaint about this dish is actually how the menu reads. Yes, it does say Fish AND Chips, but my brain had to pause a moment when I told the waitress what I wanted because the "chips" part is not on the list of preparations. Plus, when it did arrive, the peas were far from being "Smashed", which would have been a new experience I was looking forward to too. In the end, though, the fish was fried really well -- not greasy at all. The peas, though not smashed, were tasty. Finally, the fires, not listed, were great as well. To top all the above, the beer list is welcomingly long and well explained -- though that sounds simple, it is something not always found at bars with an extensive beer selection. My final comment is that I believe I knew about this place for years before actually coming here. I heard the place was newly renovated, and it certainly looks that way. I believe my only complaint about the location itself is that there are so many hard surfaces I would think it would get amazingly loud if it was crowded. read more

We got the spinach artichoke dip to start but the consistency was very weird. It was all blended and more like a pesto consistency then a chunky dip like I was expecting and it was lukewarm. Great venue in the newly renovated hotel. While it has changed from the previous iteration that is the point of a renovation. The food is great, from the app menu through entrees. Good amount of beers on tap with a good highlight on craft beers.
