Without asking, they charged an additional $1.00 for using a credit card! At 4%, their "credit card fees" are at most 12¢ cents for a $3.00 donut. Why not just sell the donut for $3.12? That'd be nicer. read more

1 star I had a terrible experience here. I came in just trying to buy a dozen donuts, but the pricing was totally unclear. I was shocked when they tried to charge me $34 for one dozen -- way overpriced and not listed clearly anywhere. While I was standing there, the wife was yelling at the husband nonstop, making the whole place super uncomfortable. Then they both turned around and started talking trash about me in another language I couldn't understand -- for what, I have no idea. I was just trying to order politely and asked why the price was so high To top it off, when I left, they started talking trash about me to another customer right in front of the store. I went to this donut shop 2 times and bought the same donuts both times. I used my credit card each time. The second time I visited they said it cost $7.75 same as before. Then they charged me $8.75 without telling me. I asked, "it was $7.75 right?" They said no, I charged you and extra dollar because you used your card. I just checked my card and the charge is $9.10. We have been going here more, along with other doughnut places, in the last couple years or so since the closure of Doughnut Cafe has left a big gap for us. I have recently found their doughnuts to be better than they were years ago, I would say generally good to very good, but still not great. It may also be that they simply seem better by comparison to some other places we have tried recently. We just had several doughnuts: glazed old-fashioned, glazed raised, chocolate raised, maple bar, custard-filled chocolate, and blueberry fritter. All of these were good. The fritter has nice texture, crunchy on the outside, nicely soft and moist inside, It had good flavour and plenty of glaze sweetness. It was a touch too sweet but that's better than being too bland or bad otherwise. 3.5 The old fashioned was very good, the best of the lot, with nice texture, good "old fashioned flavour." 4.5 - 5 stars. The raised doughnuts were all very good with good texture - a bit crisp on the outside, sift on the inside and not too airy or too dense, not dry. Came to Tans Donuts on a whim. I was leaving Grocery Outlet and wanted a quick pastry. To my surprise they had my favorite type of donut chocolate frosted with sprinkles! They were actually heart shaped donuts. Because of the shape might have been a bit smaller than if it was the full ring size. So that was a plus that I could have my favorite donut. First it was $2.50, not entirely disappointing as I'm sure this is a family owned establishment and this economy gets crazier by the day but don't think I'm paying that at my donut shop I frequent often (Fresh Donuts). It's when I go to pay I whip out my card, because it is 2025 after all and then I'm told it would be $3.50. I'm all for supporting local businesses and their efforts to stay in business but a dollar fee seems a bit excessive for credit card use. I did surprisingly have cash to pay for my donut and did enjoy it. It's not in my neighborhood so most likely I won't becoming back. Have cash when getting donuts here. read more

I can't speak for their service as my coworker just went and got a mixed box. My favorite Chocolate covered custard filled came in the shape of a heart for Valentine's Day. Corny but cute and still super delicious. The custard isn't the normal you get at every shop it has a hint of vanilla to it. My coworker always comes back happier than he was before so I'm assuming (not a car stretch) that he shared a joke with the employees. He is very out spoken if it is a bad encounter. I called ahead and sent my husband in to pick up two dozen donuts for a volleyball end of season party. The receipt came to $48.88. Photo will be attached. On their menu board it says that one dozen donuts is $15.75, but they charged us $48.88. I called them and left a message they never called me back my husband went in and they said that's what it costs for two dozen donuts. And when I called them he told me the same thing he said that special donuts are $20 a dozen well he didn't put any special donuts in there they were regular old fashion and sprinkle. In June 2014 Yelper Josh D. hit the review of this place right on the head. He said that these are ordinary (bordering on crappy), cheaply priced pastries. We all know that fried dough with a LOT of added sugar is not health food. Commentary as I chew: The chocolate coated old fashioned round cardiac clogger is leaving a mildly greasy aftertaste in my mouth. The apple turnover is stale and tough textured. The apple filling is just glop. In whole the thing is no better (maybe worse) than a Hostess fried pie. I'm buzzing from the sugar rush. Mission accomplished. read more

Meh...that is about as far as I would go for this review. Yes, to the point and lackluster! Tan's has been around as long as I have remember and honestly I have never really stopped by. Early morning pickup turned into a disappointing reminder that age/experience does not always win in the case of doughnut making! First and foremost, bring cash...man I am tired of cash only facilities. I rarely carry it on me unless I know I will be tipping somewhere after a visit, but not expecting to carry it on me for a doughnut run. Millenial rant aside, I had some cash on me, enough for a half dozen, so I was ready to do some damage, but in calorie stacking followed by a massive sugar rush. The staff was pretty quiet and really not too into helping me decide from the ample selection, but I went with my known favorites, yeah I am looking at you maple doughnut! Price was about what I'd expect for the area, so no complaints there, but the quality is really where it fell flat. I am by no means a doughnut connoisseur, but I have devoured quite a few in my lifetime, so I can tell lousy ones versus quite scrumptious ones pretty easily. Tan's really did not pack that punch and fell quite short, and honestly my coworkers agreed and urged me to stop a local shop next time. So semi long story short, not the biggest fan, but it does edge out the local grocery store doughnuts on quality, but not price. read more

Honestly, I think this is the closest donut shop in my general vicinity. I've been here at least 3 times, actually... since moving to NorCal. It's an "okay" donut shop. I actually like another one down the street better... but location location location was not on my side today. They have a selection of donuts ONLY, and a few flavored coffees. I didn't get the coffee today, because I can get a cup where I currently reside for free- and their flavored coffees come out of a machine. I asked for a dozen here, and their dozen doesn't include my personal favorite, or my husbands... therefore I had to buy over 1/2 a dozen... and I didn't like that... nor does this shop give you a bonus donut, like the other shops... Oh well- I got my sweet tooth craving satisfied- that was today's goal. read more

I had the glazed crumb donut which was out of this universe and my buddy Owen got a glazed donut. Everyone is happy now and that's what you want from a Thursday rainy morning donut. I went there today to get donut holes. They are usually pretty tasty crispy icing on the outside and light and fresh on the inside. Previously when I went there The lady gave me donut holes from a bag sitting on the counter and those were less appealing. So today I asked her to get them from there display and she basically refused and kept telling me they were the same. I went ahead and bought them and my way home eating them I discovered that they were soggy on the outside and chewy. So I called to let them know and the gentleman who answered told me that they're it's humid today and that's why they're soggy. And I told him in the future I would just like mine from the display case and he told me then I can take my business elsewhere if I didn't like how they did business. He also added the excuse of having to been over to get donuts out of the display case and how it was a strain on his back. Mind you the other donuts are in the same display case and he hast to get them out the same way so I don't know if he thinks I'm stupid or he's just lazy. There's also the fact that he set up his store the way he wanted it so if the display case is too low then he should fix it. Either way it's not the customers issue and apparently he doesn't care about having business since he told me to go down the street and get donuts if I didn't like it there. When I called that was not my intent just wanted to let them know that those are soggy and they may want to not sell those to anyone but now I don't want to ever spend a penny there again and if I have my way I'll put some flyers out on everybody's cars to boycott them. I came across reviews for Tan's Donuts and had a chuckle. There have been a half dozen occasions for me to pick up a donuts (casual business meetings) from Tan's and I'm not entirely sure why everyone is raving. The donuts are definitely priced very well but if you think these are super-duper pastries you need to try somewhere not named 7-11. And if you think these guys are making these donuts fresh on a daily basis you are mistaken. I have no problem with Tan's and will continue to pick up donuts there on an irregular basis but let's not go crazy over a standard but inexpensive donut shop. Best dounguts in town! Always fresh and fluffy. Not too heavy or greasy, great selection, friendly staff. And clean! Even the parking lot is kept clean, which I appreciate, there's a few doughnut shops in town that are gruby to say the least. The prices are some of the best in town as well. We've tried the muffins too, delicious! Been here close to a dozen times this year alone and never had a complaint about product or service.
