When I inquired as to the pricing and if they could do better I was met with what amounted to a lecture. Really didn't appreciate it. A mere 5 or 10% discount was all it would have taken this new resident to the area to become a loyal customer. Stating that their competitor had a higher minimum didn't help matters any. I called that competitor as soon as I got back in my car and learned their minimum job charge was 33% lower than I paid. read more

I had the pleasure of working with Cathy but in a hasty and unfortunate situation. My best friend passed away suddenly and as a tribute to him I wanted something engraved with his name on it saying something positive and reflective for his mother. Cathy was very helpful in picking out just the right piece and just the right words and was able to deliver the symbolic gift at his funeral to his mother, whom so deeply appreciated the detail and thought that went into the memorial gift. Tom is the greatest. Not only does he di a fantastic job, and not only is his attention to detail second to none, he's got a super cute dog in the office just waiting for a pet! Seriously though, I dropped off my stuff for engraving and was told it would take a week or so. No problem, I wasn't in a rush, and had heard such good things about Tom's work. Low and behold I get a call the NEXT DAY (!) from Tom letting me know my piece was done. Can't ask for much better than that. When I picked it up a few days later I couldn't have been happier. Need some engraving same day, for a small but important gift. Called around and spoke to a few different engravers that qouted me $75-100 for a small 2" 40 word plate. Thats when I found Tanner's on Race! Tom said he would do it same day for less than half the other rediculous quotes I got. So I emailed him the mock up I had made on my PC and drove over. The name plate was ready when I go there and looked great. What really impressed me was the way Tom attached the name plate. I watched him do it and the care he took to attach it perfectly is the kind of work you only see in a craftsman that strives for perfection not just because its good business but because its in his bones. I had a black tungsten tag I needed engraved, and he did a great job. Turns out, the tag was so hard it couldn't be scratched with a diamond, but he managed with a spinning diamond drill. I was impressed with how fast it was ready, and how nice it looked, and also surprised at how little he charged me. In short, he did a tough job well, quickly, and inexpensively. I had a really custom job. It took 20 hours, over the course of 5 visits to get it done. There were 10 items to be engraved, each had custom fonts, artwork, etc. Tom was super accommodating to my schedule and to my expectations for quality. I was able to work with him during the entire time and had 100% control over how the parts came out. This is all about Customer Service, or shall I say lack of... Apparently because my request for engraving was extremely minimal--it appeared that my business wasn't really wanted. I was tersely informed that there's a "minimum charge of $20"... I said no problem. I understand a guys got to make a buck! That said, it appeared to me that I was wasting Tom's time--and he could care less whether he got my business or not. The engraving was done fine--but I won't go back, and I will urge my friends to find a place that values customers REGARDLESS of how big their order is. read more

1) This shop messed up two pieces after hand holding the owner through the job and spoon feeding all the information and details. I painstakingly prepared the correct file formats for his antiquated machine and process (Corel 6 or whatever 1995 software he is using). He does not know any new programs or techniques. I then sent the exact reference images with placement and designs, 1 for each piece. This was an update to an older email. He never bothered to take a look at what was sent or is incompetent as you can not ask for any more clear direction. 2) 3 weeks after dropping off the piece for work, I called just to get an update on the project or see if it was started. He begins with a rant about how these jobs are complicated, he will get to it whenever and ends the conversation with "you can pick them up if you can't wait". I was just asking when they would be ready after 3 weeks with no update. Great attitude for a business owner. 3) Owner posts a picture of the project without my knowledge or consent on the site. When confronted, says his wife put it up, total bs. 4) Sends pleasant emails after review. Thanks for the laughs Tom. I spoke to another customer who had the same experience with a messed up job. You can take your chances with this temperamental owner or go to a professional and get the job done right the first time with good customer service. read more

I worked with Tom to get a custom design engraved on a pair of silver cufflinks for the best man at my wedding. He was very knowledgeable and asked all the right questions to ensure a nice finished product. There was a decent amount of back and forth for a while to get the design right for engraving, but that is to be expected with anything custom.
