Stopped in to Tangents during my trip to Mendocino and was wowed by their current inventory and array of locally made gifts. It was actually my favorite shop this time around with some amazing stained glass (I purchased a beautiful piece as a souvenir) and other fun items. I don't recall exactly what wasn't my style last time I visited, but Tangents is actually a cool little shop. They're located across from Harvest Market in Mendocino with plenty of street parking. The staff was very welcoming and helped check on prices of items that needed a ladder. They do charge a 3.5% fee on credit card purchases, so bring cash if you're planning on a bigger purchase. This is a really cute gift shop! One of those coastal town stores that has a bit of everything, but in this case, all the items are adorable. A fun selection of ceramics, from mugs to plates to colorful spoons. Many are curated from small businesses, although some were mass produced items. There's a variety of stained glass pieces and pottery, as well as some home goods like perfumes and soaps. Extra fun find for those into the metaphysical, as they had a bunch of different tarot and oracle decks. Lovely shop, worth a stop in! Items were well-priced still too! IMHO This lovely store replaced the former Sallie Mac location. I was so glad to see this store had some of the same thoughtful, and varied merchandise that Sallie Mac carried. The store is beautifully merchandised and very welcoming! You can find anything from kitchen dishware to skin care, beautiful baskets, stationery, home decor, garden pottery, blankets, whimsical socks, jewelry, etc. Eye candy everywhere! I managed to walk out with a cute long wooden tasting spoon for only $4.95. read more

Cool stuff, Unique gifts! I was here in Fort Bragg for the weekend and the procrastinator in me waited until last minute to buy a gift. I needed to get a gift for my boss who was celebrating her birthday on Monday... no time to shop so walked down Main Street, there should be a gift shop or two here in Fort Bragg being a tourist destination for its magnificent views of the Pacific Ocean. The shop has unique (and some hilarious) gifts that offers something for everyone of all ages! It was fun browsing through the aisles. It's like a place that has everything you want that you don't really need and some are funny (politics related)! It's a specialty shop that sells clothing, fun socks, handmade soaps, candy, novelty items, stationery, jewelry, fun trinkets... a little bit of everything! Friendly staff! Tangent is located on the corner of Main and S Laurel Streets. I had so much fun looking around that I forgot to buy a gift for my boss! Ugh! Fail! If I could give this place a zero stars I would. I had an employee follow me to another store and accuse me of stealing a fragrance tester from their store when I didn't even test or touch fragrances. My boyfriend was even willing to show her my purse and she said "no what you did is on you." I was even planning on coming back later to this ridiculous shop after lunch to purchase a mug later but didn't want to have to carry it throughout the town as I was hoping to support a small business. Walked in while just perusing the town. Saw some interesting little things but didn't want to carry it around all day. Went to another store where a woman that works there (but was not in the store at all while I was there) came in and accosted my girlfriend for stealing a perfume tester saying she saw her take it on camera. I was willing to show the woman my girlfriend's Chanel purse (yea we can afford that but not some shitty off brand perfume) and it's contents but she didn't seem interested at all and just continued to call my girlfriend a thief and told her, "no what you did is on you." Tangents is one of my FAVORITE places to pick up fun and unique gifts for my friends and family (or myself sometimes too!). ++ They have a wide variety of items ranging from magnets, journals, candy, clothes, you name it - I bet they have some variation of it. Def a little something for everyone! ++ Items rotate regularly. So if you find something you like you better pick it up now, as it may note be there when you return! There's always new merchandise. ++ The staff is always quite friendly and helpful. ++ The store is always very well organized and merchandised. They even use magazine pictures in many of the picture frames they sell (versus leaving the stock page). So fun! +/- Only drawback is that parking can be tough in this part of town. Though that can be said for most of the downtown Fort Bragg area. A little walking never hurts! I just left this store. It has a great selection of everything from earrings to novelty gifts and even clothes. The nice young man kindly greeted me as I entered. I asked a young lady to see some earrings. She was not very excited to help me spend money. She was very stoic. Thank goddess the kind man helped me with my transaction. He was personable, this stopped me from handing the earrings back to the stoic young lady. I should have gotten the young man's name. They have a huge sock collection (I'm "Crazy Sock Coach"), journals, lots of Kirkkerland goodies, ice cube molds, home items, etc. It was a fun store and the service was great as well. I spent a lot of time in this shop last week when I was on vacation in Fort Bragg. Since it was only an 8 minute drive from the camp site I was staying at, I found myself wandering the isles of this store a lot staring at the treasures they had to sell. Prices are a little steep but they have some really cool things. Somehow I managed to spend 60 dollars there buying gifts for my boyfriend's family. YIKES! This shop sells things like: quirky books/ pins, clothes, posters, jewelry, sunglasses, and little silly trinkets that you would find in a store like hot topic or Spencer's (like fake plastic poo or underwear for two). It's a cute little place that I could spend hours in just because there are so many things packed into it. It's a great place to kill time and fun when you go with friends. read more

I was looking for a gift and decided to browse the shops in my home town and hit Tangents. The amount of stuff is overwhelming but fun. The place was packed with tourists and a sweet salesgirl asked me if I needed any help which I appreciated but said no thanks. Main reason I am writing this review is for the clothes. They had the CUTEST tops ranging in price from a very reasonable $10 up to $38. Only problem was all they had was small and medium, small and medium. I was in small and medium cute clothes HELL! I have boobs and need a Large or XL but only saw a couple in those sizes. It was busy and I need to go in more often to check after they have restocked. Check this place out! You WILL find something for just about every taste. read more

Worth going in and browsing for knick knacks, accessories and jewelery. But if you need to buy some pants forget it. There is just one dressing room and it's pretty crowded so people just form a line in front of it which blocks the friggin clothing racks in the first place. Also I bought a red necklace there that bled all over my neck when I wore it to work. That kind of sucked. (the red dye was all over my skin). I thought I was having an allergic rash or something but it came off with a washcloth. Not sure if I can wear it again and don't live in Mendocino so it's not like I can take it back. Grr. read more

I love the things tangents has...just not the prices..when people fro out of town and from the city are saying that the prices are steep that means something, I still shop there cuz i am a local and there are no other shops like it. I always like to get a coffee and look around..but you cant have drinks in there i understand if kids cant have drinks but i am an adult and I am not going to spill my drink everywhere. A fun little shop to browse through. They carry a fine assortment of items from Archie McPhee/Accoutrements, as well as unique clothing, ethnic decor, humorous stickers & pins, body jewelry, candles, etc. I always enjoy stopping in there when I'm in town. It's a tiny store though, so if you're planning on stopping in, wait until the Skunk Train tourists have thinned out for the day. They tend to clog the aisles. read more

My daughters and I Stopped by about 15 minutes before closing on a Friday, August 5th. The girls working were not happy with us or the other patrons. The stars are for allowing my beloved puppy dog and hubby inside ;-) I visit Fort Bragg often, however on my recent trip I wanted a little trinket to remind me of my time spent there. They had cute chimes in the window, so I settled on a little 4" hanging charm with bells. Every time I look at the darn thing, I am reminded not of my wonderful trip, but of the way I was profiled in the shop. I asked one of the girls if she could get the chime down for me as it was hanging too high to reach. She did so, and a couple of minutes later followed me to a different little row of stuff to ask if I "needed her to hold it up front at the counter for me" -- I think I could have handled it. I was spoken to, observed and treated like I was going to shoplift it. You couldn't pay me to want most of what's in there. Totally uncomfortable and disheartening. Just because the notion is insinuated politely, doesn't make it acceptable. I will not return. read more
