First, how could you not love a place named for the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Darmok." Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra. When our tour guide told us we were going for dinner and light opera, I didn't expect much. Instead, we had so much fun and a surpassingly good meal. Our starter was an absolutely wonderful roasted eggplant, my favorite course of the night. I devoured it before thinking to take a picture. It was one of our favorite dishes of the entire two-week trip. Next, we had risotto with mushrooms and pumpkin. It was great. In the states, pumpkin is so over-done and heavy-handed. I couldn't even taste the pumpkin. The second plate was a nice sliced veal with potatoes. I initially felt it was a rather small portion, but after finishing the entire meal decided it was just right. You left with your appetite satiated, but not feeling stuffed. As for the show, I and my family were pleasantly surprised. The performers were great. My one recommendation would be that when they're performing live, turn off the videos of Andrea Bocelli. It was somewhat distracting. They seem to cater to your groups, so Tanagra is great for that. It's also worthwhile to go on your own. We enjoyed the food and the show. read more

This was an experience for me. I wasn't sure what I was going to experience here. The place came highly recommend by the tour guide. I liked it. The food was good we had a three course dinner. The first course was a pasta. It was good and the second course was a meat dish with salad and potatoes. It was delicious. It was cooked very well. The last course was a delicious dessert. With plenty of wine to drink. The entertainment was great. The piano player is one talented guy. The entertainer where also funny and talented. The show was great. They come around selecting people for the show. We had all had a great time. They had a big screen so even if you sit in the back you still have a great view. This is a nicely decorated restaurant, with nice linens. We where welcome with a glass of something sparking blue. I think it's a traditional drink here. It tasted like Champagne to me. I had the best Risotto of my life!! seriously. I want more. I must have more. This must be what Crack is like! Can anyone get me more of this today?? This would be a 4 star review but the Risotto was soo good It claims that extra star!!! This is a large Opera and Dinner Venue. From what I understand they have been operating as such in this location for over 20+ Years and it shows. The service and execution is perfect and they have it down as a well oiled machine. Great wine, food, music, laughter and friends. What a great place to go with a group of people and have a wonderful time. Seriously they set the stage to have fun and be loud. My husband and I had a really good time here. As you enter, the room is dim with the walls lit up with changing colors. The interior was beautiful with all its details. You can come dressed business casual and you'll fit in with all the other guests. For a start, we had cured beef (Bresaola), which was absolutely fabulous. We also had a pasta dish, risotto, and my husband and I had the veal with roasted vegetables. Overall, I thought the risotto and the veal were on the salty side, but had plenty of flavor. The entertainment they had during our meal was great. They sang very familiar Italian opera songs and some skits were very comical. They also ask for audience participation and one of the female singers goes around to EACH of the guys in the audience. So don't get too jealous ladies...... For dessert, they gave us tiramisu!! My husband said he loved that tiramisu the best (had a stronger liquor flavor and punch of cocoa). My favorite tiramisu was in Venice (more like a custard), but this one came a close second for me personally. **This review is based on a tour meal I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at this opera/theater restaurant. The menu is prix fixe for your tour and from what I saw a lot of the different tours around me got something different from us so there is variety. I wonder how many shows they do during a day because our meal took about 2 hours or more. They serve your next course after an act so that no one is making noise during any of the performances. The first part is all opera The second part has guest interaction The third part is a finale type deal also with guest interaction It's a very fun environment to be in and the food was pretty good! Our tour had a mozz/tomato salad, beef with greens and potatoes, mushroom risotto, and veggie pasta. The actors/opera singers were amazing and the host speaks in English, Italian, and Spanish. read more

What a show! Even though I didn't know what they were singing about it was a beautiful performance. There were some serious moments - where you could feel the emotion of the singers. There were some lighthearted moments - like when one of the ladies twirled and sang her way around the room. She even pulled my hubs up on stage for a dance, which got a loud applause from our tour group. Between sets waiters appeared with 4 courses of dinner: (1) thin slices of prosciutto, (2) mushroom risotto, (3) veal and baby potatoes, and (4) tiramisu. Wine was flowing, portions were large, I enjoyed everything except the tiramisu (I'm just not a fan...) All and all - a fine way to spend our last night in Roma! read more

Came on our last night in Rome. 39 people were seated quickly, served drinks and the first course. As soon as the last group arrived the entertainment began. Food: Served as a family style set menu. Salad, couscous with mushrooms, pasta, beef main course, tiramisu and lots of wine. They were all pretty decent, spinach and potatoes stood out for me. Show: I love opera arias so I thoroughly enjoyed it. The quartet had the audience engaged, they were witty and fun. Most of the guys in our group had red lipstick on their foreheads and left grinning from ear to ear. Space: It was grand and open, high ceilings with Murano chandeliers. Stage was small with a baby grand for accompaniment, it seemed pretty tight but worked for the entire act. Overall, this place is one to experience when in Rome if you don't get to go to a true theater. read more

It was my first time seeing the opera and it was quite and experience! The performers were amazing and the show overall was one I will never forget. Dinner was absolutely exquisite. The five-course dinner started with cured beef with salad. For the first course we had mushroom risotto and pasta with asparagus and tomatoes. The risotto here was the best risotto I have ever tasted! For the main course we had veal with roasted potatoes and spinach. I was not a big fan of the spinach, but the veal was cooked perfectly. For dessert we had tiramisu, which was also splendid. The dinner also came with unlimited wine, which is always a plus! read more

The show was entertaining with great songs and the tenors were involved with guest. Letting guest partake in the Opra show. The food was not seasoned well. Very mediocre The dessert was not amazing. Wine is always good so they get a point for that. read more

Worst food I've had. Went here for a Disney Cruise meal and had the chicken. It was so dry that no one at the table could eat it, and the other 5 tables seemed to have the same problem. This place does dinner shows only for tour groups. Opera (and a bit of other) music, dinner, and local wine makes for a very enjoyable evening. The staff is friendly, and the singers (especially the tenor) are quite good. Dinner was the usual multiple courses. Primi was cold sliced beef with a bit of salad.... and delicious rustic bread served with flavorful olive oil. Next came both (!!!) mushroom risotto and pasta primavera with light tomato sauce. Then was veal and spinach with diced potatoes. Dessert was yummy tiramisu and Prosecco. The food was pretty average, actually, but getting to dine while being serenaded with selections of Italian opera made for a great addition to our Italian holiday. read more

The Opera part here is amazing, the food not so good. Maybe because we went here with a group and it was a fixed menu. Staff was nice and friendly. The Opera signers put on a beautiful performance and funny by selecting audience members for the Barber of the Seville part and so on. I was on a trip recently through Italy. My wife and I went to a show + dinner @ Tanagra. Opera + food (wow!!!). This is a place to go to. We had some real fun. Particularly, when they wanted volunteers to go on stage and help with the performances. It allowed for hilarious moments. Everything here is all in good fun!!! I do not know if this is a place for taking all the family, but it is a nice place. It is definitely a place I recommend. You do need to be a bit of mature to understand to enjoy things. I do not think a child would be happy with this. The menu appears to be a prix fixe, and set for each day. Once set, there is perhaps not much of deviation. read more

This was our 'final dinner' for our tour group on our trip to Italy. We were excited to say the least mostly for the 'opera'. All in all, nice experience. The Opera singers were entertaining and they incorporated the guest into their performances which got quite a few laughs. The service and food however was mediocre at best. (with the exception of the Risotto. I wanted seconds). Wasn't really a fan of how the meals were served. The servers would come around with a big dish and would share out the food. They had to maneuver through the tables and lean over you at times. read more

Dinner was good but not as good as some of the other places we visited. Risotto was yummy though as was the tiramisu. Show was fabulous though and fun. Great entertainment and definitely a fun evening for a dinner meal. We went with our tour group and a great time was had by all! read more
