I wanted to share some feedback regarding my recent visit to Tana Thai, located in the Bronx. The location is quite secluded, which offers a quiet atmosphere. The food was good, though not outstanding. I appreciated the service, particularly the lady who was serving and assisting customers simultaneously; she was very pleasant. The ambiance was acceptable but nothing special. However, my main concern is the pricing. It was just two of us, and the bill amounted to nearly $200. We had two beers, two appetizers, main courses, and one dessert. In our opinion, this place is quite expensive for what was offered. Would I return? Unfortunately, no. read more

Sandwiched between a juice shop, an auto body shop just two doors down and a closed-down storefront is Tana Thai on Eastchester Rd in the Morris Park section of The BX. Not that I'm a Thai food master- or my sisters, but Tana T. made the cut for our hangout to have a meeting of the minds and talk about a planned trip in a few months. I do know (from what I've read and heard) that Thai food ranges from tasty, to fragrant with lemongrass, ginger, lime aromatics to sweet to salty and beyond. Tana's inside is dramatic but calming. Has hard wood flooring, rectangular dark stone-faced walls, ceiling wood beams and plants. Their extensive menu is flexible and includes something for everyone at reasonable prices. Our Papaya Salad, all-veggie dumplings and veggie spring roll appetizers were nice starters. Thai Iced Tea that my twin sister and I each had was nice and so was my naturally sweet coconut water with heavenly-soft coconut meat. Two of my sisters shared a chicken dish while my twin enjoyed her Shrimp Pad Thai. My lightly-battered Tilapia strips were meaty and delicate served with veggies in a garlic+pepper sauce. Yum! The Pistachio+Ricotta cake and the Chocolate+Hazelnut my sisters ordered came out frozen and mentioned it to Pookie which she warmed up. I appreciate her honesty when she mentioned these aren't made in-house. This small strip might be unflattering to some, but Tana Thai was a very nice surprise. Plus, it's the food and friendly service from Pookie which pulled in the bigger draw. I'm not striving to be a Thai food connoisseur- but flavors were impressively on target. I don't know what's going on with Thai places in the Bronx. Last time I ordered from here, and had also visited, I liked the food although way too expensive, but this time ordering through UberEATS, I did not even like the food. Ordered Drunken noodles with shrimp and beef, Pad Thai with chicken and beef, green curry mix seafood, chive dumplings, pistachio cake, Snapple which I thought was tea but turned out to be fruit punch. The Drunken noodles were spicy with no other flavor, only a few shrimp or pieces of beef, the Pad Thai tasted almost exactly the same although a worse flavor I cannot even identify. The green curry was a sickening pea color with hardly any coconut flavor and as thin as watered down soup with few pieces of vegetables or seafood. They only gave a half cup of rice compared with a cup that most places give. The chive dumplings were good though, deep fried layers of chive and rice flour, I had never had those before. But I paid $105 for this food and was very disappointed. read more

The restaurant itself is really charming in terms of atmosphere and well kept. I imagine it would be a cute place for a casual date night or lunch. I opted for take out and the staff was organized, efficient, and quick. However, unfortunately the food left a lot to be desired and I reckon was even worse this time around. I got the basil fried rice ($15.95) and the tom ka soup ($9.95). The tom kha soup didn't look appetizing and ultimately was not given that it was not fresh, and despite being chicken, it had an overwhelming fishy and stale flavor. The basil fried rice was rather bland and the rice was very clumpy rather than individual pieces of rice that had been well seasoned and fried. Likewise, it did not taste that fresh. While I really want to support local businesses, it's hard to overlook the flaws at Tana Thai. The prices are really high given the portion sizes airing on the side of small to average, and the poor quality simply does not justify the price at all. I imagine the prices are high given there aren't many competing Thai restaurants in the area. read more

This is a small space with big Thai taste! You'll find this tucked away Thai place past some autobody shops between some nameless busines and a Dunkin Donut joint. Public bus transportation is available. The shrimp pad Thai was delicious and I didn't expect such quality from this area across the street from Montefiore Einstein Campus in the Morris Park section of the Bronx, But my expectations were premature and flat out wrong ! Don't skimp on the Vegetable DRUNKEN NOODLES! Delicious sticky noodles with a savory authentic Thai quality taste!! The price is affordable and the food is mighty good. I did a take out and when I got there to pick up there are approx 6-7 tables so it's not huge and I'm not sure but I would recommend making a reservation on the weekends if your gonna dine in. Amazed to find authentic Thai food in the E. Bronx. My companion had the drunken noodles and orders takeout here all the time. I had the pineapple seafood curry which was delightfully spicy with the pineapple adding sweetness. No additional sugar! No wontons in soup! I waited 30 minutes for take out and was given cold broth with broken crumbled noodles and large pieces of floating lettuce!! This is the only Mom & Pop restaurant in walking distance so I gave it shot. It's tiny but mighty! Plenty of seating in the dining room at lunch time. We tried a few different things. The drunken noodles were really good. I was expecting it to be hotter, and when it wasn't I asked for some chili oil. The server brought me a powdered hot spice mix. That did it. It was perfectly spicy after that. We tried the Thai sesame chicken. That was excellent. Also tried the Tom Kha soup with chicken. Thicker than I'm used to, but quite tasty. Heavy on the fish sauce. I liked it. I had the ginger honey tea, and it was super flavorful. The server told me it was made in house and I believe it. Would order any of these items again. As an afterthought I got the fried bananas. Didn't really enjoy them. Too much dough in the wrapper and not enough fruit, kind of dry, but the honey sauce helped. We found this gem on Yelp, and we were surprised that it only had 3 stars! We typically only go to higher rated restaurants, but after reading a few reviews we decided to try this outstanding restaurant. The food was so incredibly delicious and authentic. We started with the Thai Won Ton soup and homemade peanut dressing on our salads. So flavorful and fresh. For our main we had the Thai Basil Eggplant with beef and the assorted vegetables with Chicken. We were looking for healthy options with low sugar. These were the perfect dishes for us. Light, fresh and bursting with flavor. The eggplant was spiced and cooked to perfection. The assorted vegetables with Chicken was also cooked to perfection. The white rice was traditional Thai and it was the perfect compliment. For dessert we shared the sticky rice with mango, this was heavenly. The texture of the rice with the sweet mango was beyond delicious. The atmosphere was charming. The server was originally from Thailand and we loved talking to her. She made us feel so welcome and put great big smiles on our faces. Although we did not meet the chef, we were told he was from Thailand. Having travelled to Thailand several times we found the dishes to be very authentic. The prices were very affordable and it made the experience just perfect. Thank you for the great experience.
