Meatball sub.
Jeff D.

This fine establishment is just a 100 yards from the beach. The owners are very friendly and courteous. I stopped in for a meatball sub and was very impressed. They make their own meatballs and use Botto's bread which you can definitely taste.

Batteries there and here
Rich D.

Gouge gouge gouge. Not wanting to get in the car and go to an off- beach store for batteries for the kids bubble machine. I said hey why not try this place and get a four pack of AA's. Holy price gouge Batman! I knew something was rotten when the guy said "how many you need?" I mean don't they typically come in packs? Rhetorical, of course they do and here they came in a 48 pack. I said how much are they? He said "two bucks each batteries are expensive you know" Again it's for the kids so..,... They guy proceeds to put four silverish batteries in a brown paper bag. Not til I got back to the house did I realize I'd been sold 4 Sam's club batteries for $8+ tax+ credit card fee. Now I don't mind a merchant making a profit but a 48 pack of members mark is $21 bucks or 0.45 cents each. So 350+% profit not too shabby.

I was born and raised in Maine and come back a couple times a year to see my mom here in Brunswick…read more I hadn't been yet to the Ram and Bull which took over a previous restaurant spot, and decided to give it a try based on the fact that one of their weekly specials was lobster stew. Let me be clear, I am typically disappointed over and over by the lobster stew I have in Maine. In my mind, it should be classic, with milk, butter, Sherry, and lobster meat. I've been searching for this version from my childhood for the past 30+ years and I finally found it here. Have they added a tiny garnish of rosemary to the top? Yes. Does it make me angry or detract from the sweet perfect flavors of the stew? No. And the lobster meat in the stew was tender, as it should be, rather than having simmered way too long and being tough and chewy. Their crabcakes also were nice and generous, although I don't love the spicy remoulade (I feel it's too strong for delicate crab flavor) and the texture was a bit soft for me. I'm looking forward to being back during my stay and trying more items from the menu! Oh, and don't sleep on the service here, it was excellent. From several people asking me how my meal was or just saying hello, to the amazing Travis behind the bar with his big fabulous personality. Yay!

The place was NOT busy and everything came out at the same time. Huge faux pas. After that, our server must've visited us a dozen times asking if we needed thing. I jokingly said "we're good just leave us alone" It's a huge turnoff to be hounded and not have your orders timed appropriately. ‍sorry not sorry. You wanna be semi-fancy, your service needs to reflect that Now food. I ordered the Porchetta Bahn Mi, friend had a wild rice beet salad? The app was fried pickles. Bahn Mi was ok. Every "handheld" is served on brioche so that was a bit of a turn off for a Bahn Mi. Half the part of them being delicious, is the bread itself. I didn't taste the friends salad but looked inviting. The pickles didn't seem cooked enough? Not very crispy. Maybe that's why everything came out all at once. I might give this place another chance

My wife enjoyed a Phony Negroni mocktail, while I opted for a "Shoot the Messenger"--a shot of rye whiskey paired with a Narragansett beer. We shared yucca fries, a fall green salad, bluefin ceviche, and pepper-braised short ribs, all of which made for a delicious meal. We finished with a wonderful arroz con leche, the perfect ending to the evening. The food was excellent, the service was friendly and professional, and the overall experience was a delight. Magnus has clearly earned its place on our list of restaurants worth returning to, and we're already looking forward to our next visit. A couple of practical tips: reservations are a must, and finding on-street parking can be challenging. Both are well worth navigating for a meal like this!

My wife and I started going to Magnus during lockdown, right after we'd met. It was outdoor…read moreseating, you scanned your order via an app, and they'd bring your food out to a little table. And that more or less started a tradition with my wife and I of going in on birthdays and sometimes anniversaries. Sometimes, particularly in the dead of winter when all the tourists have gone from Maine, we go in just cuz. First of all, the menu and the cocktails. Just. F'ing. YUM. I'm a huge fan of the yuca fries which are crispy on the outside, perfectly soft inside, just the right amount of salt. The "Fall Green Salad" on the menu currently is just... It's a death wish meal. Like, if I'm ever on death row, and they're like "OK, buddy, what's the last meal you want?" It's going to be that salad. Well, maybe that and some lobster. ANYway the menu is generally small, which some people seem to take issue with, but changes regularly with seasonal foods, and all but the most picky of "Applebee's" fans will find something to enjoy. In other words, if you're expecting an eight page menu with low quality, bland food, this may not be the place for you. The presentation is always spot on, but the flavors? My god, I am just gushed over a salad? Yes. Yes I did. The sweetness with a nice bit of tart from the grapefruit, the slight bitterness of the radicchio, and then the curried pecans. This fantastic little crunch with the curry flavor and heat? Seriously. So freakin' good. The bartenders are wonderful and really know their stuff. Last night I saw a bottle I didn't recognize, which turned out to be creme de cocao. I've had DeKuyper and others, but this was so much better. I asked the bartender for a cocktail made from it and what she made.... *chef's kiss*. A tiny bit of coffee, some flavor from akvavit, some whiskey. It was so subtle, so delicious, and exactly my flavor pallet (I tend to be somewhat alcohol forward in my drink preferences). Whenever I'm in, I also order a "Last Word" since they always, always make them perfectly and it's difficult these days to find green chartreuse. The bartender very kindly explained to me what why his were generally better than what I made at home. And of course, the staff in general. We LOVE THEM. ALL of them. Magnus has a vibe, if you're a local in particular, similar to a neighborhood pub. The people get to know your face, they greet you warmly, they chat not just with you but with one another. It's clear, abundantly clear, that they like where they are. Parking is where you can find it on street in the area. We've never had any issues finding something within easy walking distance. The price, well lets face it, even going to eat at a local Irish bar these days is going to set you back, but for the current market I'd say it's average. We had three cocktails each, three appetizers, and one main dish for about $150, AND we had leftovers. BTW, refried yuca fries with over easy eggs? Perfect hangover food.

We had to park at the lot near the mill buildings and water and walk a pretty good distance to get to the restaurant but I guess I could use a few steps. Walked in it was very loud where they wanted to seat us under the canopy where there were some unruly bar patrons so they brought us to a quieter area. We sat for a long while before being greeted by our server. But we still wanted to give it a shot. We ordered poutine with portobello mushrooms and the three tables around us got their full meals before we got our appetizer. Then, she took our main course order and like the app, the food took forever and we are usually very patient. The server was super nice but just was very slow and the fries in the poutine were cold. The main course was a root salad that my wife thought was pretty good with turnips and vinaigrette. I had clam chowder and calamari/shrimp dish ... I paid almost 20 bucks for the calamari and got about 5 pieces and 4 small shrimp and the chowder had no flavor. We then asked for a box to put her salad in and the waitress forgot. Until she realized as she was dropping off the check. I don't think we will be back .. maybe just for the outdoor patio ambiance but, not the food.

The bread is out of this world and is perfect for making french toast. The bread is challah bread from a local bakery. Every component of this french toast is perfect. The outside of the bread has a nice crust while the inside is warm and custardy but not too soggy. The butter and syrup are really good as well and they do not skimp. Bacon - 10/10 It is possibly the best bacon I have ever had. It might have been it was cooked to perfection that day or we were just at the right place at the right time. To me this is saying a lot because we all eat and have had a ton of bacon in our lives. I mean of course the bacon was good but it's not that simple. It was crispy while parts of it were still tender with a great chew. It also had a great smoke flavor. Most bacons say, "smoked." This bacon actually had a smokey flavor with wasn't artificial and paired so well with the coffee and sweet breakfast items. Pancakes - 9.4 The cook and tenderness of the pancake was fantastic. Again, the butter they serve is great and pairs well with the pancakes. The only hang up we had is the pancakes have a lemon flavor we weren't expecting. It didn't ruin the pancake however, we wished the lemon flavor wasn't there. Coffee - 10/10 The coffee is ground second prior to being brewed. It's not just your typical diner or breakfast spot coffee. Outside of a drink containing espresso, this was maybe the best cup of coffee we had at a restaurant. There was something different about this coffee as well. Maybe the atmosphere, the service, the weather and the food actually being amazing contributed to how great everything was. Their breakfast menu has all of what you'd expect and they have great prices! Along with the usual menu they also had a specials board and everything on it during our visit sounded amazing! I ended up going with the special of Two Slices of Pumpkin French Toast, 3 Eggs, and bacon. The pumpkin French toast had to have been homemade bread which tasted phenomenal and sweet enough you didn't need syrup. Eggs were cooked to perfection the way I wanted and bacon was crispy. My wife got the Irish Benedict and enjoyed it. Big enough portion she couldn't quite finish it. Hollandaise sauce smothering the plate that packed so much flavor. We arrived and sat at a picnic table with an umbrella so our pup could be in the shade. We were having a great time, so excited to be there and amped to try their current taps. Just as our apps were being brought out, a gust of wind lifted the umbrella clear out of the table, spilling my wife's drink and sending the heavy metal umbrella pole directly into my face and chest HARD. My wife, the server, and I were all stunned for a moment. Wife thought I was bleeding until we realized it was rust on my face and chest from the pole. Server asked if I was okay, clearly feeling a little awkward, and with my hand to my face I said "I think so? If I'm not bleeding, I guess?, still totally stunned and feeling some pain. Face throbbing, my wife asked for an ice pack, and the server brought us one. We totally understand that it was a freak accident, and that it wasn't our server's fault. But it got awkward from there as the crew working became avoidant. The girl that sat us saw me teary eyed from the pain, holding the ice pack to my face and asked if we were okay... but that was it. The atmosphere quickly became awkward, and considering the pain I was in combined with feeling totally weird from the staff, we asked for a box to take our uneaten food to go. Server brought our check and we were a little surprised to see that we were still charged for the drinks (one of which had spilled because of the umbrella) and the food. We paid cash, still left a nice tip, and left, wanting to get out of the sun and keep an eye on the swelling. We were really disappointed in how the situation was handled by the crew. We weren't looking for our apps to be comped, but it would have been nice for a manager to come by, apologize, offer to refill my wife's beer, and maybe move us to a different table since we were no longer in the shade. The team didn't go around and check the other tables to make sure the umbrellas were safe and secure, either, which was shocking considering what had just happened. We were really looking forward to hanging out, trying a little bit of everything off the menu, buying some cans or growlers to take home... but we left with a swollen, bruised face and chest and an uneaten $90 box of food that we ended up tossing because the mood was completely ruined. We rarely leave a negative review anywhere, but I guess this is just a PSA to check your picnic table umbrella if you sit outside, and hopefully a learning opportunity for management in how to improve customer service and safety for patrons.
