Little hidden Gem! Came to visit the area and was craving Indian food. This place was located near my hotel so I decided to check it out. We ordered the butter chicken, samosas and a mango smoothie to go. We wanted something with minimal spice as it was for a toddler and the owner recommended the butter chicken. Everything was absolutely delicious! The samosas did come with two sauces which were really good. My only complaint is that the butter chicken was a bit cold when we got it and we only had a 5 mins drive to our hotel. Wet friendly business, and I only wish they have a cafeteria style counter where food and dishes are freshly cooked and you can pick multiple items at once. It is hard to order Indian food when you are not good at remembering the names. Even I have been to Indian twice and have been eaten at Indian restaurants all the times, I still enjoy buffet, because I can get a variety of items. This is a solid Authentic Indian Restaurant! My tech peers said the food here is like eating a meal from the kitchen of their mothers! They've visited all the Indian restaurants locally and they said this is the real deal!!!! I've learned a lot of how their meals are cooked and the ingredients used to be so flavorful. Most Indian restaurants in the area adds sugar, milk and cream to cater to the general taste buds but that's not true Indian cuisine. At Tamarind, they make their dishes as authentic as they would back home. So what has been my fav? Everything! Chili Paneer - Cottage cheese in a tomato sauce made with green pepper, celery, onion. Chicken Biryani - Rice is so fragrant with a lot of spices to wake up your taste buds. You can get it Mild to Spicy. But even at the mild level I was drinking water after each bite. But it's worth it! Roti- similar to naan bread but made with whole wheat and It's thinner and healthier. Thali - means platter of food. It had rice, beans, fried okra, potato, cucumber and a spicy pickled apple or mango. What's on the platter may change based on what is in stock or whatever. Butter Chicken- A good starter dish for someone trying out Indian food for the first time. Chole Puri- It's like a chickpea stew, very flavorful and it won't taste like you are eating chickpeas. It's very soft but not mushy. Aloo Puri - potatoes, soft but not mushy and seasoned so well Everything I've had has been so good. The customer service is always great and they are very accommodating. We're slowly getting back out into the food scene post-pandemic. We're trying to eat more vegan / vegetarian as a family so we are experimenting with more Indian food in our home menu. This prompted a trip to the Indian Bazaar grocery store. That's when we noticed this little eatery adjacent to the grocer. It's a small, extremely clean street food cafe with ample outdoor seating. The menu is full of fascinating options. For our first visit we ordered the Samosa Chaat, Paneer Bhurji Dosa, and Gulab Jamun. All three dishes were delicious. The Samosa Chaat was by far my favorite. A full tour of all the Indian flavors I love: the spice of onion chutney, the cool creaminess of yogurt, the bright splash of mint and cilantro, and the warm savory comfort of samosas. The Paneer Bhurji Dosa was a light contrast to the Samosa Chaat. The coconut chutney added a nice chili flavor. Lastly, the Gulab Jamun was the best I've ever eaten. Sweet, soft, and refreshing. A great way to end any meal. We will certainly be back to try more of this menu. What a wonderful place with extremely friendly staff. So grateful for places like this in our community!! read more

I was in town for a work trip and I had a hankering for a dosa. This place was recommended by some of the local folks. Unfortunately I was very disappointed in their masala dosa. Food The only thing I ordered here was the masala dosa. The crepe was very soggy and not crispy. The filling was fine. The way this place is, you go to the counter order and then they bring you the food. With social distancing in place there isn't too much seating space. They also had some outdoor seating which would be fine in the summertime. It came with sambhar which was okay. Parking There is a lot outside for free parking Service They did close early due to the Corona virus restrictions I thought that the service was okay .The gentleman manning the counter was a little strange. Very good Indian street food. The pani puri is a flavorful with spices and with the right sweetness and sour combination from tamarind juice. Just think of this place like fast Indian.  For me this was a little something different.  I do enjoy Indian food but many places are usually larger restaurants specializing in buffet or cooked to order dishes that I have frequented in the past.  This place is smaller and it may lack a buffet but it is not lacking on flavor.  The food was on point for what I ordered.  I did not go to crazy and try something new since this was my first time there.  I stuck with the standard of chicken curry, garlic naan, and samosas.  This is my standard when trying something new and that is my determination if I will come back to an Indian place to eat.  Well they will be getting another visit from me since the food was very good.  The garlic naan was the type of naan that when you eating it the different types of food that you can dip or roll into it was coming to mind.  It was good enough to hold itself on its own and just have is.  The samosas were very plentiful and surprised at the sized for the price and getting three pieces for your order. read more

I wasn't that hungry and the owner gave recommendations. I chose the Lilva Kachori. They were round fried balls of Lilva(Pigeon Peas) and spices. If you like Indian spices and heat...you will want this! It is served with two sauces, a cilantro and a tamarind sauce. Sooooo delicious. I could drink them both. Spicy! Unless, I'm a weakling but, I LOVED the kick of the Lilva and the Cilantro sauce. By the way, another first-time customer was sitting behind me eating and making sounds of utter joy. Honestly I'm surprised everyone loves it here. My husband and I came here because I'm vegetarian and the reviews were good. Customer service was great. The lady in the front was nice. But the portions compared to the price wasn't it. And the taste....... Very bland in my opinion. I've had so much Indian food ( not from VA though. Mostly in MI and CT) and this was by far the worst Indian I've had. Don't get me wrong it's good FOOD but not good INDIAN food. The curry tasted watered down and it really didn't have a lot of flavor. At all. I'm usually never picky especially with food but....... That's just my opinion. We spent almost 50$ for what seemed like a kids plate. The rice was done in 3 bites and you're left with watery soup and unseasoned eggplants. ( I got the eggplant curry dish and asked her substitute the curry sauce for the one used in butter chicken. ) I was super excited to have some Indian but ended up super disappointed. I ordered a thali which consisted of butter chicken, curry chicken, cucumbers, rice, 2 pieces of naan, and a donut. The flavor was good, but the sauce on the butter chicken was thin. The restaurant itself is not big and only has a few tables, but it smelled amazing the minute we walked in through the door. The place is very clean and well-renovated, with an exciting wall filled with words related to Indian food. The restroom was also spotless and modern. Place your order at the counter. The regular menu is not huge but has a good number of options, and there are also changing specials written on the blackboard behind the cash register. Yelp has Tamarind listed as vegetarian, but there are also a few meat dishes. Service at the cashier was AMAZING; we had one of the friendliest and most enthusiastic workers I've ever encountered at an Indian restaurant. The owners hired a great employee! You will receive a number and then your order is brought to you if you dine in. Most dishes are relatively inexpensive (less than $9), but it is marketed as street food after all. The size of each dish is not bad for the price, but my friend and I were hungry so we ordered a ton of food: vada, samosa chaat, classic dosa, chicken biryani, and falooda. We also got coconut juice and masala chai tea, respectively, to drink. The food took a while to come out because everything is made fresh to order, but we were told it would take about 15-20 minutes for our food when we placed our order. When it did come out though, it was piping hot and everything was extremely flavorful and delicious! It had really great flavor (even with them dulling down the spice for me since I can't handle really hot food), and it was the perfect portion.
