I was at the spot about a week ago while walking around. They are located inside the new Shaver Hall, but I would recommend their other entrance, as it's closer to the host stand. The server I had was friendly, though if I had to make one complaint, he didn't come around to ask for extra fries. For being a steakhouse, the vibes feel a bit more casual, which makes sense as their menu caters more towards those who go to Le Relais, Medium Rare, or Skirt Steak. All of that makes sense, as they all offer a similar prix fixe option for dinner. To drink, it happened to be happy hour, so I got a $10 Toki Highball. It was pretty standard, with a bit less alcohol than I would like, but it was during HH. I liked the glass straw inside as well.
The prix fixe menu was $49 and included salad, a choice of one of three steaks, a sauce choice, and unlimited fries. For salad, there was a choice between a Caesar with romaine, house dressing, and garlic croutons, or an Italian salad with pepperoncini, tomato, onion, Parmesan cheese, garlic croutons, and a creamy Italian dressing. I went with the latter, and it was pretty tasty and decently sized. It was fresh with a light dressing and decently balanced between the lettuce and other ingredients, though I wish there were more than one pepperoncini.
All the steaks were from LaFrieda, and there was a choice of one of three cuts in different sizes, as well as three different sauce options. The steak options were a 7 oz tenderloin, an 8 oz hanger, or a 10 oz picanha, while the sauce options were au poivre, salsa verde, or steak sauce. I went with the picanha with au poivre, and it was pretty tasty. The steak, which was already cut into several pieces, was pretty tender and pretty beefy, with one piece being a little too fatty. It was missing a bit of the sear from some better spots, but at the price point, it's difficult to complain. The au poivre was unique but less to my liking, as it wasn't as peppery as some other places while being both creamier and richer. The fries were a mixed bag as they varied a bit in crispiness. They could have also used a tad more salt, and I eventually asked for mustard for them.
The deal was pretty decent, with the steak, even without the sear, and salad being a bit better than the chewier cuts at either Medium Rare or Skirt Steak, but I preferred the fries at the latter. For Midtown, I prefer Le Relais de Venise L'Entrecôte, which has better fries and a better steak, but both of these places are tasty. I would go back and try their burger or another cut of steak from the same deal, as I do love tenderloin. For the area, this was an excellent deal. read more
