The atmosphere was casual and comfortable, the prices felt very fair for the quality, and everyone was genuinely friendly. They even preemptively offered to answer questions if we needed help, which I thought was so kind and thoughtful. We may have seemed uncertain, but I promise it was only because everything on the menu looked and sounded fantastic, and we simply couldn't pick what to try first! We weren't sure if this place was ever going to open so we were excited when it finally did. It did not start well after we sat down, we waited almost 15 minutes for somebody to take our order. They were not very busy, the staff were standing around chatting and on their phones. Everything went well after that. We ordered shrimp and vegetable tempura, crispy spicy tuna, takoyaki, various sushi rolls, chicken katsu, gyoza, and chicken fried rice. The tempura, crispy spicy tuna, and takoyaki were decent, but I feel like the oil was not hot enough as everything was very soaked with oil. The flavors were good though. The chicken katsu portion size was very generous and very tasty. The gyoza and chicken fried rice were fairly average but tasty. This sushi was good, the fish was very fresh. I came into Taku Sushi looking for lunch. Upon entering, I was immediately greeted and seated. The food quality here is around average. The sushi rice was too bland, and the miso soup contained a light amount of miso. However, the katsu was perfectly fried, with the breading giving a light crisp. Because I hadn't had breakfast, I ordered extra food. But to my pleasant surprise, I bit off more than I could chew; the portion sizes were quite generous, and I ended up taking extra food home in a to-go box. The patrons seated next to me also needed a to-go box. Overall, Taku Sushi offers large quantities of average quality food. They have a variety of clean indoor and outdoor seating options. A vast menu with hot and cold items. We only tried some of their sushi rolls, but they also offer hot dishes like soups, noodle and rice dishes. The rolls were all good, but none of them blew us away either. My husband and I decided to try this place and we were pleasantly surprised. The place is small but spacious and very clean! We ordered edamame to start which was good! I ordered vegetable tempura which was served with rice and a salad. I really enjoyed it! I also ordered some avocado sushi which was refreshing. The food was very good had the tempura the only disappointment was the shrimp was not tempura, almost like it was a frozen shrimp that was fried. The service was decent but there is a definite sewer smell that hits you when you walk in the door that is very offensive. Great place for sushi in Commerce City, because everyone knows there's an abundance of Japanese restaurants in the area. I'm being completely sarcastic. There's literally none. This place is a great diamond in the rough. I went there on their soft opening, and the experience was still amazing. A little rocky of a start, but you have to expect some bumps in the road on their first day. Poor wait staff looked overworked for the opening, but hopefully things have calmed down and the experience will be better for patrons from this point forward. Sushi was good, fresh, and well prepared - no complaints. Prices are decent and the chefs looked like they were having a great time. Will definitely come back again; they have had time to iron out their kinks, and I look forward to the next visit. Their flagship restaurant downtown is also great, if you're ever in the Denver Metro area, give them a try as well! Large, open space, good seating arrangement. Went in for lunch and they had just opened. We were the only table in there but the server / owner was more interested in rolling silverware than making sure we were happy. My water was empty and she looked right at me as i was holding my water glass but she felt the need to spend another 2-3 minutes rolling silverware before coming to refill my drink. The sushi was good but the pieces of fish seemed small compared to other places. All in all i got the vibe that we were an inconvenience more than valued guests. $100 lunch for two of us. Side work is more important apparently. Was really hoping this place would blow me away as it is very close to home. We sat by the sushi bar so we were able to see all the freshly displayed fresh fish that is flown fresh weekly from Japan. Which I totally believe because it tasted like it was! Even though it was packed, we got our food pretty fast for a sushi place. I ordered from their new Omakase menu, which was amazing because in a way I was able to sample many of their items on the menu. The sushi chef would come around to us from behind the bar to present each dish and tell us what they were. Each dish presentation was so beautifully done too that it was breathtaking. I've eaten here twice with the family since opening. Both visits were really good. Between all of us we've had sushi, rolls, chiriashi, ramen, and a variety of starters. Everything was excellent. As one would expect the sushi is a standout - impeccably fresh, presented well and delicious. It's good enough to keep me from driving to Denver when I want good sushi. The staff is also very friendly and we've gotten great service.
