What an amazing little gem. I came in just before the rush and spoke with Taka and Lenora my bright, cheerful and attentive server. Such a warm welcoming vibe. They serve real gen mai cha tea which is a breath of warm nutty fresh air. Everything was amazing. Hamachi carpaccio was my favorite. The dressing was so bright and tangy, opening up the flavors generously with the delicate hamachi melting in my mouth. And the pickled peppercorns, ZOMG ... I wanted a whole side dish! Amazing spicy hotatate (scallop) hand roll with generous hotate, avocado and tobiko. Miso was on point. I finished with the shishito spicy maguro tempura and it was the perfect warm dish to finish my meal. So FULL I forgot to take a picture is was so excited about the shishito. They also padded my bill -- the actual card fee is only 3%, but my $51 total became $56, and with tip I ended up paying $60. Hubby, my sister and I decided to have dinner at this place. I ordered pork ramen, hubby ordered Cod bento box and my sister ordered the beef yakisoba with udon noodles. Half through eating her beef yakisoba udon noodle dish, she came upon a piece of aluminum foil in her food. This is disconcerting. Also saw one of the cooks went to the fridge, he took out a piece meat with his bare hands and threw it on the grill for a bit and then placed it back into the fridge. First time here. I'd been wanting to try it the last couple of times we've come to town. I ordered tempura upon, albacore and yellowtail sushi. My wife the ordered teriyaki beef plate and an order of salmon sashimi. The udon and negative were good. I liked the slightly sweet dashi in the udon. The beef, on the other hand, although it was a nice large portion, was really overcooked. It was thin, like shaved beef and cooked nearly to the consistency of Jerry. She tried a couple if bites and could eat any more. The salmon sashimi was fine however. Lest you think we have unrealistic expectations, my wife and I lived in Japan for five years. Never had beef like that there. Actually, we've never had teriyaki beef like that anywhere. Disappointing. Won't be back. read more

It is a very comfortable spot to eat big enough to stay away from your neighbors but close enough to feel at home. The decor is simple but comfortable too. We ordered pan fried udon with salmon- it was made in some sweet sauce which tasted like diluted ketchup and the salmon was overcooked. We also ordered shrimp curry with rice- it was an American diner's version of thick gravy with carrots and potatoes and rice on the side and three shrimp tempura on top. Taka's Grill was a pleasant surprise for us during our recent stay in Fort Bragg, CA. It was not on our radar for a place to eat that evening. It was almost 9pm, and most of the town was really quiet & closed. Honestly, thought we would end up getting take out from Denny's or McDonalds. Found them because we were going to Cowlick's Ice Cream shop next door. I saw that Taka's Grill was still open so we decided to give them a try. Stepped inside and was greeted by their friendly staff. Asked if they were still open, and they said they were. Yes!! After browsing their menu quickly, we hastily made our choices. While they cooked our entrees, we went next door to purchase our ice cream. After almost 30 minutes, our food for the 11 of us was ready. Really appreciated that the staff did not hurry in making our food, and the fact that they stayed past closing time to finish cooking and preparing everything!! Great customer service!! Brought the food back to the hotel. The order was 100 percent correct!! We were all pleased with the food we received. You would never know when walking by, but this place has great sushi! I had the Taka roll and it was fabulous! I also tried their gyoza and veggie tempura which were really good. My mother and sister had the teriyaki and said that it was just okay so I would recommend the sushi over the other items. They allowed me to bring in my own bottle of wine for a small corkage fee which was great because their wine menu is limited. Lunch in Fort Bragg Family lunch and, luckily, the restaurant wasn't too busy at 2:30p because our party occupied all the seating inside the main dining area... party of 17. Our waitress, Katie, did a great job handling our big group. Not only did she singlehandedly took care of us but her attitude and smile throughout the time we spent there made our first time dining experience here nice and pleasant. Not to worry, there was another section in the restaurant where other patrons/guests could sit... I'm not sure where they were headed, probably an indoor patio area. Anyway, I ordered the Shrimp Tempura Roll. Perfect and delicious. The last orders to be served was the Dragon Roll. I think four of the young ones in our party ordered this. It was my Mom's birthday and towards the end of our meal Katie brought out a small ice cream dessert for our celebrant while we sang Happy Birthday to Mom. It was a nice dining experience over all. Both came with miso, which was lukewarm. The rice wasn't fluffy, definitely not fresh. The curry was interesting. It was like they took the grilled teriyaki chicken and shred it and then added loads of black pepper to the curry sauce. At least my guys salmon was grilled right. And the sushi. Anyone used to sushi, no not, a sushi snob, but your average sushi consumer would know this was not it. My spidercrab didn't even remotely look like what I've had and the caterpillar..no.
