I went here for a late dinner For two and was surprised to find out my total was 26 which is surprisingly cheap for two people to eat. I ordered two orders of miso soup, some rolls and a few other things I no longer can remember. To make a long story short the place seems very clean to people are extremely nice, but the food was absolutely terrible. The soup tasted like water mixed with very little bro. The food was fantastic for a lunch steak and chicken hibachi. The "flair" was lacking a little but it was a lunch crowd. The rice was moist and just the right amount of sticky. I feel like I might have got the short end of the stick when they were doling out the steak but I'm sure that was just me being hangry. I always eat at the hibachi side, but I really like it! The food is always really well cooked and the staff is nice. I feel bad for the chefs, because they are pretty underappreciated most of the time. But they still try and are funny and nice. I'm not a huge fan of the pink sauce. It's not bad, but I miss the sauce other hibachi places have. I used to not be a fan of the ginger salad dressing they used (again probably because I've had better at other places), but it has grown on me a lot. This place is pretty yummy. This place is great! My wife and I happen to live close by, and therefore we eat here often. It's a delightful little place with a surprisingly good habachi grill in the back. Came here because the roomies and I were craving Asian food. Did this place satisfy our cravings? Yes. First of all, their portions are huge. I only ate half of my chicken katsu dish and was really full. It also came with a delicious miso soup and salad which are two things I enjoy at Japanese restaurants. Although the taste of everything was great, I have to say the chicken was on the dry side. They sliced it thin, so it was mostly panko. I hear their hibachi is pretty good so I'll try to come back for that. read more

Disappointed! My coworker recommended This restaurant. So, I decided to try it for lunch. I ordered a steak fried rice to go due to my lunch schedule. Once I got back to work and open the container I immediately called the restaurant to explain to them what I ordered verses what I received was totally different. My rice was white, I could count the pieces of egg I had and there was no carrots what so ever in my food when the menu specifically states carrots are cooked with the food. The lady I explained this too stated I should have ordered hibachi which comes with more vegetables. I said ma'am there is NO CARROTS in my food. No refund was offered nor a free meal due there own mistake. Needless to say I will not be visiting this establishment again. read more

Tried this place for the first time today. Really was happy with the food and the staff. Lunch menu for habachi is reasonable and the sushi was very tasty. Loved the ginger dressing on the salad and am suspicious that it is fresh made. The steak habachi was tender and portions are nice-take out box was neccessary! This place is so easily located that I missed it twice. Its very obviously located off Hwy 80. For some reason I kept passing it. Once I realized it was near a nail salon I visit frequently I was a bit embarrassed. Luckily the back and forth was worth it because I truly enjoyed my quick experience. They have hibachi and sushi so win/win for me. I was looking for a new spot in the Clinton area and I was recommended to stop here. Although my order was pick up I will be back for their lunch really soon. The staff was great and welcoming and the food was seasoned perfectly. The sushi was fresh and the balance of rice and chicken and veggies required no complaints for me- very satisfied. The inside is nice and clean with a warm welcoming vibe. This is my second time coming here and I have to say it's just not good. The service is decent and the staff are nice but the sushi is just awful. I ordered some dynamite, spicy salmon, and spicy tuna rolls. The dynamite was caked in entirely to much sauce , whole roll tasted just like the souse. The spicy rolls were worse, they used so much panko ( the crunchy stuff ) that you could not taste the fish. I can't recommend eating here. read more

Our family comes here quit a bit. We come for both lunch and dinner. The food is always delicious and the service is great. When it's busy, as with any busy restaurant, there can a little wait with seating if you want to sit at the hibachi grill. The fried calamari appetizer is one of our favorites on the menu. read more

I LOVE Japanese food and used to be a regular here before one night. Went in with a group of 7 and waited more than an hour for the main entrees. We just paid for the drinks and appetizers and left. I can understand if this was during a busy night but there were plenty of empty tables. Also, the server was not very friendly. I came to Takara to celebrate my niece's birthday last week. We came on a Thursday night. Our first sign that we were making a bad choice should have been the fact that we were the second of only 2 parties in the hibachi area at 7:30. The next sign was a foul odor in the dining room. Still we gave it a shot. The service was ok and our hibachi chef was friendly. My mom really enjoyed her plum wine. That is about all I can say that was positive. The food was AWFUL. My sister described the fried rice from the hibachi grill as tasting like dirty dish water. The chicken for my niece's dish looked a bit slimy going on the grill. Her boyfriend had to coat his entire plate of food with pink sauce to get it down. I ordered the spicy sushi platter which should have come with spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and spicy California rolls. I only got the salmon and cali rolls (the tuna was missing without an explanation) and they were blah. The wasabi that came with it was old, stale, hard and discolored. I think our waiter could tell we didn't love the food as he included a 20% gratuity on our bill which is odd for a party of 5. Most places don't do that until you reach 6 or more. Idk what that was about. Hopefully it wasn't a "black tax". Either way, this was my first and last time coming to Takara. read more

What happened? A year ago we would get great service and delicious food. Now the food is still good but the service is always a miss. When getting take out my husband will be ignored for at least five minutes. When we came in to eat in we stood by the door awkwardly waiting to be seated and being ignored. This has been my favorite Japanese restaurant for years. My family and I were frequent customers. This afternoon I took my son to Takara for lunch and received great service and the food was delicious. Unfortunately by the end of the lunch date it turned into a very disheartening experience. I am an African American and I sat a hibachi table with another African American couple and a Caucasian couple. When we all received our tickets some were confused about the gratuity that was added. The gratuity was only added to the African Americans at the table. When I brought it to the attention of the cashier he hesitantly explained in a nutshell that his "boss" requires them to put gratuity on African American's tickets because we are likely not to leave a tip. This really rocked me to my core because I frequent this place and always tip well, We were stereotyped, and my son had to witness such distasteful behavior. In all my years I have not blatantly been stereotyped by anyone let alone another minority group. My feelings were really hurt and I really hate that this happened but I want to let others know about what I experienced and you can make the decision on whether or not to continue to give them your business. read more

I visited this restaurant yesterday with my family(party of 3), and when we received our check, it had gratuity added. The white family that was dining with us said no gratuity was added to theirs. When I asked the waiter, he advised me to speak with the cashier. When I asked her why I was charged gratuity, she replied that it was a service charge for the cook and waiter. I asked her to show me on the menu where a service charge would be added, then she replied well I added it because when "you people" come in you never leave tip. At this time, the white family is exiting and I asked her why didn't she charge them and she stated they always leave tip. I informed her that I visit this establishment often and I always give a tip to the cook and she advised that was not gratuity if I give it to them but a side tip. She then stated she would remove it and I don't have to come back anymore... She didn't have to tell me that, I'm telling her that I'm no longer patronizing and I hope ALL BLACK PEOPLE STOP AS WELL!!! read more

I and a coworker went to the Clinton location today around 1:15pm. The hostess asked about our seating , we wanted a table. she asked us to join a crowd for hibachi. she seemed disappointed when we insisted on a table. The were tables empty. she told us to wait 5 minutes which ended up being 10 minutes or more. The waiter finally came and sat us at a table that was empty when we came. We waited another 10-15 without being asked what our drink preferences were. This was after the waiter spoke with the hostess. They cleaned tables and swept around us, with no patrons waiting. I felt we were being punished for not going along with her suggestion to join the hibachi crowd. We left. extremely disappointed and insulted. read more
