Cloud Matcha with and extra scoop of Matcha
    Hannah D.

If you're looking for delicious matcha, good service and nice employees, a great ambiance and cute shop, Taiyo is the place to go! They have matcha, Thai tea, ube and strawberry options, and soft serve ice cream! I highly recommend stopping by this shop and getting something good!

I recently tried this spot right before the long weekend. Switching up the way I usually leave reviews. I'll do a run down of the positives and negatives. Positives: - open design tea shop, spacious, lots of natural light - clean - simple design, not cluttered - my tea was made with light ice without me having to ask for light ice - huge plus - thank you. Who likes watered down matcha? (No one) - there was no upcharge to switch to oat or almond milk - also huge perk since I cannot stomach regularly milk anymore - primo matcha, the quality is there - lots of staff on duty - not short handed - wintermelon flavor was very good, was wishing my drink had a tad more of that flavor in it. Negatives: - another small business off beach blvd where it's a nightmare to turn in and out of (traffic at all times of day, no traffic light) - most all drinks need to be shaken or stirred (staff will tell you this as they hand it to you) But the drink comes in a normal to go drink cup with a hole in the lid aka, how do we shake or stir this properly without getting thick green matcha everywhere ? Better design of cup is needed; maybe boba tea style with a sealed lid for proper mixing - drinks are priced higher than Starbucks My wintermelon matcha was $9/$10 which included $1 tip (I know good matcha is pricey, but if I'm paying for good matcha, at least give me a decent cup to enjoy it out of) all the flavor sinks to the bottom and needs to be constantly stirred while drinking. - zero napkins placed on the tables or bar by the front door. I spilled my matcha while attempting to stir with my straw - wanted to clean it up, no napkins in sight. Asked the attendant at the front who had maybe 5-10 beverage napkins loose by the register, cleaned my small mess up with those. Napkins on the tables would be helpful. - Taiyo was out of the first 3 drinks I was trying to order. I did not go on a busy weekend day, and went after their soft open when they were officially open. I would give this place another try down the road If in the area and it's easy to get in and out of the shopping center it's located in. I know they are new so I'm sure they are still figuring things out and working out the kinks. Staff was good about lightly explaining the drinks when you ask about them.

Taiyo.... ILY. The mango matcha was the best matcha I've ever had. The service was awesome, they were so kind and happy. I love the decor. It was the cutest place. We will be back!

Matcha cloud - matcha latte with matcha cold foam

I'm happy to see that this place has opened in the Jacksonville area. As someone from California, I try to find spots that stay as authentic as they can to our Asian roots. Hence, when I go to matcha places, I try to get the unsweetened version to truly taste the cafe's combination of matcha against milk. I learned that their default milk is 2%, so I ordered their cloud matcha (matcha latte with matcha cold foam, a creative combination) with whole milk. The drink was able to be made sugarless while still holding its matcha flavor, though the flavor is not super potent (I prefer mine to have a strong robust flavor). Thus, I would say this matcha is of good quality (so not weak) for a standard fix, but not quite there for those seeking that strong high quality matcha tea taste. As for the ambience, I like the color palate of pastel green walls, white ceiling and floors, and light brown wooden tables. The bright lighting and music lightly playing in the background adds to the peaceful and pleasant vibes of the cafe. Open from 9a-9p everyday, they have plenty of good seating and wifi for those looking for a place to study. it's a wonderful place to enjoy your latte alone or with friends, as there are plenty of other Asian restaurants nearby for a good mid-day meal. Currently a drinks-only spot, they'll be introducing their soft serve matcha ice cream on their menu soon, and I am looking forward to trying that when it's released!

The aesthetic is so cute. Very modern and cozy. It was packed when I went with people hanging out or working. You must try the pandan milk with u be cold foam. Can't wait to go back and try their other drinks.

My go to in the morning is the Blueberry Matcha with oat milk. If you want to work in there they have free WiFi and tunes.

Came in here to grab the strawberry matcha. I really enjoyed the taste of it! It's a nice little open cafe with lots of room and the staff was really perky and informative! (they make sure to tell you shake/stir it up) Will be coming back to try the other flavors! A little pricey but at least it was good!

Great customer service, and the matcha and Vietnamese coffee were amazing! I do wish they had more coffee options, but everything they serve is excellent.

Cutest little matcha spot ever! It's clean, welcoming, and the staff are so friendly. Drinks are beyond delicious--I could honestly sip them every day.

Our visit to Biscottis in Jacksonville's Avondale neighborhood managed to do both. We were greeted warmly when we arrived and seated immediately, and the atmosphere had a welcoming energy that made the restaurant feel like a true neighborhood gathering place. Susan ordered the Quiche Lorraine, and after the first bite we both knew it was something special. The crust was delicate and buttery while the filling was rich and perfectly balanced. It was so impressive that we awarded it our Culinary Duo Best of the Best dish recognition, which is something we reserve for truly standout dishes. Peter went in a different direction and ordered the Sweet Potato Pancakes with house made white cheddar hash browns. The pancakes were flavorful and comforting, and the hash browns were crispy with bold cheddar flavor that made them impossible to stop eating. Another thing we appreciated was learning that Biscottis carries the Slow Food First Coast Snail of Approval, recognizing restaurants that support sustainable agriculture and local food traditions. The service throughout the visit was cheerful and attentive, and the staff seemed genuinely happy to be there. If you enjoy restaurants that combine great brunch dishes, incredible desserts, and a lively neighborhood atmosphere, Biscottis is definitely worth visiting.

Pretentious and overrated…read more I wanted to like this place - it has such a hype. But the food is terrible. The burger is greasy/wet, it is drenched in a bland cheese sauce, the meat is underseasoned, and the patty has no sear. Definitely not worth anything near the $21 cost. The salmon BLT is served on bread that is cut so thick you're mostly just eating old/stale bread, and the sandwich is also greasy. Their french fries come drenched in a disgusting garlic oil and cheap grated parmesan. It's bad cooking dressed up to look fancy without any understanding of the basics. The restaurant fits as well. Its ugly artwork is accompanied by furniture that looks like it was ripped out of a Le Pain Quotidien. The cakes look amazing, and the bar is nicely designed and well stocked, but neither saves the drab surrealist-cafeteria vibe of this pretentious establishment.

Our waiter, Evan, was very proactive & offered suggestions with menu items. We started with some cocktails, the gentlemen with the cider beer & an old fashioned. I chose a glass of bubbly & the birthday girl had the fizz cocktail. It was incredible with a fresh blackberry puree. We started with the fried green tomatoes & the calamari, both were delicious! Calamari was prepared well and not too chewy. We shockingly each chose a salad: the bistro steak, the chop chop Asian, the goat cheese, and the salmon. Each one was incredible. Mine was the chop chop and I absolutely loved it! It was HUGE and you can bet I ate every single bite. Loved it!' We finished with the brownie topped with ice cream for the birthday girl, it was extremely tasty! Thanks again to Evan for making our night! He was a fantastic waiter! Would absolutely request him in the future.

I made it my mission to find the and send her fresh mooncakes. I was thankful for this establishment, as they had five different flavors of mooncakes. They labeled each mooncake so we knew the flavors, as they are indivvidually wrapped. We shipped them overnight to her. We also bought doubles so we could try them.as well. The flavors were black sesame, green tea, pineapple, red bean and lotus. The black sesame and red bean were very dense. The lotus and green tea were a lighter texture with great flavor. The next morning, we had the sausage and scallion bun at home. I liked it, maybe more than the pork bun, and would get it again, though it had the advantage of being reheated at home in the microwave. My wife liked the dough, the hot dog less so (and I must admit the hot dog in the croissant we had a while ago at Cruffin & Tea was better). I'd get this again, though probably trying the regular hot dog bun instead of the scallion one next time. I'd asked the server if she could reheat our items when I bought them, but she said no, and didn't seem to understand English well. So far, I've preferred the savory things to the sweets here. Each item was $3-3.25, so a better value than the other bakeries I go to. I will return to this place periodically, but I still prefer places like Cruffin & Tea and Le Petit Paris, so I'm giving Mai Xiang Garden Bakery an average rating, 3 stars: pretty good, but not above average for a bakery, other than the good value.
