Special Taiyaki
Kelly Z.

Consistent service and quality every time! They are so quick and the ice cream is so good! I've been here so many times for the past few years and every time they satisfy my sweet tooth. I'm just waiting for them to expand or have indoor seating.

We stumbled upon this little spot while walking around the Seaport and had to stop for some red bean mini taiyaki! We ordered the 9-piece box, and since they're made fresh to order, the wait was about 10 minutes. They were seriously SO cute and delicious! Definitely should've ordered the bigger box!

Taiyaki NYC has a location at Seaport Boston, and my husband and I stopped by for a cold treat when we were in the neighborhood a week or so ago. Taiyaki is a popular Japanese dessert - a fish-shaped cake filled with custard or ice cream. At Taiyaki NYC, you can order from their preset options or build your own taiyaki, cone, or cup. We shared their #1 - The Classic: vanilla ice cream, custard taiyaki cone, chocolate drizzle, crushed oreos, and a wafer stick. It was made quickly and tasted great. It's a great treat on a hot day - we did start eating it inside before finishing it outside, since it was such a warm day, but we enjoyed it a lot!

We were so excited to find out there's a Taiyaki in Seaport. The ice cream was really good, and of course the presentation is super cute! Employees were friendly and answered any questions we had, and there are benches outside if you prefer to eat outside.

This might be the best ice cream I've ever had. The ice cream itself is a solid soft-serve, but what really makes it happen is the fresh made waffle cones that look like fishes. They're actually soft and spongy, it literally tastes like you are having ice cream on a fresh made waffle. The toppings add flavor, but don't overpower the ice cream like at most places. The line gets long on weekends, but moves quickly. It's a bit pricey, but well worth it for on occasional treat. It's also in a really nice part of the Seaport.

The establishment was easy to find and walking distance from anywhere. I ordered the vegan mango strawberry on a sugar cone. The red bean paste fish cone, is made with dairy for anyone that has allergies. The service was fast and the staff were super friendly. And the ambiance was super cute. I definitely would come here again.

Very quick despite the line, loved the build your own option. My boyfriend opted for the classic but subbed vanilla for twist. I built my own with custard fish, twist ice cream, caramel sauce, and Oreo crumbs. Beautiful presentation and honestly delicious. The cone smelled and tasted so great. The custard is more of a cream but still good. Where I'm being picky: the cone could've been a little crispier and the toppings were pretty minimal. I couldn't taste or see any of the caramel sauce and the Oreo dust is so fine I think I inhaled more of it into my lungs than I actually ate. I wish it was actual mashed up pieces not fine dust. We will definitely be back though! I just won't get Oreo crumbs next time.

I will be dreaming about this place till I am on the East Coast again. All the flavors were so delicious and refreshing after walking around the area. A smaller shop but smells like buttery, waffle goodness. The staff were very friendly and got our orders very quickly. I am a clumsy person and did not want to risk dropping all the goodness from the fish waffle but we all sampled each others and there is no going wrong with anything ordered here.

Vanilla soft serve with taiyaki cone

By what I read in the other reviews, it seems like this place gets busy! The shop is small and there is barely any room to stand inside. We got our ice cream and ate out in the courtyard area, seaport is such a nice place. I got a matcha soft-serve in a taiyaki cone with red bean, and my bf got a vanilla one. The ice cream and taiyaki fish tasted great, my only gripe was how incredibly messy it was to eat. There was such a large volume of ice cream in the cone itself that I wasn't able to eat fast enough and it started melting all over my hands and arms. Like it was crazy. I was eating this ice cream like an animal. It would be nice if they served this with a cup or something. So I just feel like if you're not someone who can inhale a giant ice cream this is not for you. I would just get a plain taiyaki fish treat with ice cream on the side.

Went here and their ice cream was so tasty, but the line is so long, because there can be only 6 people in the restaurant at once. The ice cream machine was broken (like McDonald's lol) and half of the ice cream menu was gone. However the ice cream was very good, paired with a cool atmosphere with nice decor and cool logos.

Bummed that they ran out of taiyaki at 8pm (2 hours before closing). How does a Taiyaki place run out of Taiyaki. I was looking forward to getting one of their creations. Nevertheless, I ended up getting strawberry/mango in a cup. It was alright. Somi Somi is better.

Gloria L.

I highly recommend getting a cup to put your taiyaki because the sleeve will get very drippy and messy. I got the red bean with mango and vanilla swirl (vegan) it was yummy, I think better than somi somi.

Beautiful and delicious matcha icecream in a warm fish-shaped waffle cone. The area around the Taiyaki NYC store was also beautiful!

Out of fish cones 8:50pm, store closes at 10pm. If this is reasonable... Otherwise soft serves good.

There was a short wait since they bake the cheesecakes fresh in batches, but it moved pretty quickly. The Original Japanese Cheesecake was warm, soft, and definitely lived up to its signature "jiggle." It's very different from a traditional cheesecake--much lighter, fluffier, and less sweet, almost like a cross between a soufflé and a sponge cake. If you're expecting a rich New York-style cheesecake, this isn't that. Personally, I enjoyed how light it was, and it didn't leave me feeling overly full. The staff was friendly, and the shop was clean and well organized. My only suggestion would be to have a few more seating options since it's mostly grab-and-go. Overall, it's worth checking out if you're in downtown Boston or curious about Japanese-style cheesecake. I'd come back again and would like to try some of their other pastries next time.

I ordered an Ube cheesecake and repeated my order as it seemed there might have been some miscommunication. I was in a bit of a rush due to limited parking and unfortunately didn't check my bag before leaving. When I got home, I realized I had been given a different cheesecake than what I ordered. I decided to keep it rather than return, as going back to Chinatown wasn't convenient at the time. The cheesecake itself was also disappointing in texture and freshness--it felt quite soggy and not as fresh as expected. Overall, the experience did not meet my expectations, and I don't think I would return.

And it is popular for a good reason. Service is quick, I'm sure they are trying to get people in and out. Very fresh kaisendon (fish bowls) with delicately cut, plump fish. A friend and I got the salmon and tuna don, which were appropriately priced under $20 if I remember correctly. Lots of different cuts of salmon and tuna, which were all covering fluffy white rice, and served with a side of miso soup and Japanese radish/pickled vegetable. If you were to compare this place with other casual Japanese spots serving sushi or sashimi, there is an easily discernable difference in quality. You can tell by the texture and appearance of the fish in your bowl! This is a classic in Chinatown for a reason, and I will never say no to a kaisendon from Tora.

Once I made my decision from their extensive list of options and combinations, it took me maybe 2 minutes from start to finish to build and submit my order. I ordered a large taro milk tea and it was everything I had hoped for. Flavorful, not too sweet, and the tapioca was a wonderful consistency. My only thing was that it was so busy and loud that the staff were unable to continuously call out when orders were complete, or you couldn't hear them. I eventually went up to the bar, noticed my drink had been sitting a few minutes, yelled over, "This is mine, thanks!!" Smiled, and then grabbed it. Beyond that? It was absolutely a great experience.

Although their names seem to have nothing to do with each other, they share paper bags and some products. Are they sister shops run by the same team? Egg Tart蛋撻: Since there was no insulated box, it was cold, which is a shame compared to Corner Cafe. The egg and milk aromas were masked, but there was a slight eggy smell. Portuguese Egg Tart葡撻: Although it was also cold, I preferred the baking. It had a thin crust, and the filling was still smooth and delicate, with a richer egg, milk, and sweet flavor. Butter Bun奶香包: The best product, but I forgot to take a picture... I unexpectedly encountered "Little Swell bread微波麵包," something that has disappeared in China for a long time.
