You'll order at the front and they have a large seating area on the side. We got an array of items to share and everything came out quick and hot. Is it me or is there too much Chinese Five Spice going on in the batter for the fried stuff? I mean, I like Chinese Five Spice, no doubt, but the heavy handedness of it here is so much to where it takes away from the dish due to the excessive amounts of it. BUT you get endless egg drop soup and sweet tea, and if you're nice enough, they'll give you a mini little scoop of ground pork for no additional cost to put over your rice. The place is very clean, very quiet, the staff is super kind and there's lots of Tawainese/Chinese/Korean tv programs on the television. And the shrimp here is HUGE. I went in with no expectations since it was a last minute choice, but I'm so happy I went. I think the chicken and calamari were fried well - crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside and it was seasoned great as well. I was also blown away by the braised beef in terms of authenticity - it tasted like the braised beef I would get from Taiwan and I couldn't stop thinking about that. Amazing Taiwanese eats in this tiny town! We stopped by San Marcos over the weekend to do some weekend fun with our toddler, and brought him here as a 6 min pit stop drive from Wonder World cave exploring. I am taiwanese and have always gotten excited whenever I see something that ties me to my family upbringing and it was an amazing surprise to see this pop up on Yelp when I was searching for places to eat before we made to drive home back up north to Austin. Cue, Taiwan Bowl! The owner is so sweet, and cooks all the dishes, everything is made fresh and wow the portions are insane, we definitely could've shared a dish and covered our hunger but we had so many leftovers to indulge in over the weekend. I love the Taiwanese fried chicken which was well seasoned and the complimentary soup and iced tea was a sensational hit on this summer heat wave we've been having. The noodle soup I had made me extra toasty, looking back I probably should've ordered something else when it was 104 degrees out lol. A little restaurant near Texas State University. There are a very tables here with 2 larger tables for bigger parties. The tables are pretty close together and there not much space to move around. All meals come with a sweet tea or a soup, which is nice. Service was pretty good. I thought I would had to wait await since there were a few people in front of me but it only took about 15-20 minutes to get my food. The environment is so cute and welcoming, the man working the front desk was very sweet and kind as well as a woman (i'm assuming an owner or maybe an employee) walked out to say hello to us as we were waiting and she was beyond sweet- really made us feel welcomed. The main attraction to San Marcos on Sunday AM is glass bottom boat ride. But my real intention is lunch afterwards. Kept trying to find an authentic Taiwanese restaurant and at my cousin's suggestion, drove an hour to try it out. One of the best decisions ever. It is located at the triangular intersection of Chestnut St, Forest Dr, and N LBJ Dr next to Treff's Tavern. The store sign is small but not difficult to find since it's in an open area. Parking can be difficult since every store in the plaza share the same open lot. Ordered the Beef Noodle Soup and Fried Tofu. The beef is nice and firm, with some chewy tendons Taiwanese people enjoy. Soup is superbly savory. The fried tofu is on point perfectly seasoned with salt and pepper. Tastes like I'm back in Taiwan! Owner Sue is extremely friendly and has moved here from Taiwan since before 2000s (over 20 years) and knows her food well. Will definitely come back and try more of their Taiwanese delights. So we were driving back from SA and stopped by San Marcos for the outlet and found this place off FB foodies group... Who would have known there's an authentic mom and pops Taiwanese cuisine in San Marcos right next to Texas State University. Menu are printed out with photos on the wall, friendly front desk (the son) and the owner lady greeted us from inside the kitchen through the window asking about how we found them and where we from, after a bit of chit chatting in our native tongue (Mandarin) we ordered crispy chicken - very crispy and juicy and tender with white pepper/salt which is very tasty Beef soup noodle - this is not braised like others its more like home cooking between clear and braised broth... It's very tasty as well and the beef was tender and the amount was generous so is the noodles Chicken leg rice - another staple dish,the chicken leg/thigh was so tender and the skin was crunchy with a egg and broccoli and radish and rice... Difficult location to get to and not especially convenient if passing thru San Marcos, but we do anyway since this is so legit. The owner gives samples to us which is nice.
