Calamari
Darian C.

I went in with no expectations since it was a last minute choice, but I'm so happy I went. I think the chicken and calamari were fried well - crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside and it was seasoned great as well. I was also blown away by the braised beef in terms of authenticity - it tasted like the braised beef I would get from Taiwan and I couldn't stop thinking about that. The inside was clean and small but very quaint. The worker was so nice, I was confused about the soup situation and didn't realize that you had to buy it before (that was my bad I should have looked at the menu closer), and the worker asked me if it was my first time there and from then on made sure to check in often and would ask about the food and the soup.

Amazing Taiwanese eats in this tiny town! We stopped by San Marcos over the weekend to do some weekend fun with our toddler, and brought him here as a 6 min pit stop drive from Wonder World cave exploring. I am taiwanese and have always gotten excited whenever I see something that ties me to my family upbringing and it was an amazing surprise to see this pop up on Yelp when I was searching for places to eat before we made to drive home back up north to Austin. Cue, Taiwan Bowl! The owner is so sweet, and cooks all the dishes, everything is made fresh and wow the portions are insane, we definitely could've shared a dish and covered our hunger but we had so many leftovers to indulge in over the weekend. I love the Taiwanese fried chicken which was well seasoned and the complimentary soup and iced tea was a sensational hit on this summer heat wave we've been having. The noodle soup I had made me extra toasty, looking back I probably should've ordered something else when it was 104 degrees out lol. This is a quaint no frills place where you get good eats in proximity to Texas state. The parking lot is very tiny and I imagine it's much easier when you're a college person in proximity. We loved our food and will look to return when we are in town! Love everything about this place and wishing many more successful years in the future!

Taiwan Bowl is one of those home away from home restaurants that I make a point to stop by anytime we're in San Marcos! Their menu is pretty comprehensive for a small restaurant, so you'll find many Taiwanese classics like Beef Noodle Soup, Fried Pork Chop, and Popcorn Chicken available at super affordable prices. Everything we've had here is DELISH and made with lots of love by the owner. I can't get enough of how crispy, flavorful, but still light their fried items are. If you dine in, you will likely catch her rounding on her customers to chat and make sure they love the food. A true Taiwanese auntie. We've even been treated to complimentary soup and a sample scoop of the braised pork belly after a plate was slower to arrive. NGL, I'm pretty jelly of the Texas State students and how they have access to such great food... not to mention, in such close proximity to campus! For out of towners like me, the parking lot is small and awkwardly shaped but there's usually street parking available close by. I'll be back again soon (likely post-floating)!

A little restaurant near Texas State University. There are a very tables here with 2 larger tables for bigger parties. The tables are pretty close together and there not much space to move around. All meals come with a sweet tea or a soup, which is nice. Service was pretty good. I thought I would had to wait await since there were a few people in front of me but it only took about 15-20 minutes to get my food. The noodle soup was a light chicken broth with fried onions in it. It was nice and light. Pork chop from both plates were great. Crispy outside and tender in the inside. Sweet team was almost sweet as chick fil a. Parking lot is very small and the spaces are also small. So because careful parking and going in and out of it.

Beef Noodle Soup and Fried Tofu

For tofu and a bowl of soup I paid over $25.00, which to my judgement was not worth it given how much i enjoyed the food. I think I just should've gotten the fried chicken/fish like everyone else that rated it highly. DISCLAIMER: The sweetest most amazing outstanding kind bubbly cute staff EVER. I was almost deterred from writing this negative review because I love these people so much. (maybe go at least once just to experience and support them) The tofu was okay, loved the texture, but the flavor on the outside was oddly both too intense yet not? I had to dip my tofu in my soup to get some of it off at times. It's a unique flavor and i do really like it. The amount is just a tad bit much. B e w a r e the tea, it's VERY sweet. I may be bias since i'm not super into sugar but it's seriously a bit much which is unfortunate because the taste of the tea is REALLY yummy! The soup. It was a bit lacking in spices and flavor. Trying to eat some of the beef with the noodles and soup , I discovered how gamy beef can be. It was wild, completely out of left field. I kept trying to enjoy it but it just tasted like really gamy meat boiled in water So all that for 25$ I was pretty butthurt especially as a broke college student. I heard the fried fish and chicken is where it's at though so maybe just don't eat what I did!!! I remembered going before this and not enjoying the hot and sour soup too :( keep that in mind if you're craving it and wanna go here for it. Maybe don't.

So disappointed this place got bought out. This will forever be my favorite restaurant in San Marcos, the main lady who ran the place was always so kind & the ice tea was 10/10 will forever be mourning the loss of this jem

Beef shank side dish

Wasn't expecting to find a Taiwanese restaurant in this area but it sure did not disappoint. Pro tip: Highly highly recommend that you dine in to experience the true freshness and deliciousness. What we got: - Beef noodle soup: A somewhat small bowl of noodles but tasty broth and beef shank. Definitely only get this if you're dining in - Fried pork chop over rice: The pork chop was nice and crispy and not soaked in oil/grease, but actually on the "lighter" side (if there's such thing from a fried dish) - Beef shank side dish: Had a little bit of a spice kick to it and super tender pieces of meat - Minced pork over rice: This one was alright, definitely needs to be mixed up but once you do, you can't stop eating the rice The staff is super nice and they certainly take pride in their dishes. Definitely recommend coming by if you're anywhere in the area. The parking lot is small but you'll make it work!

Miss your parents and need comfort food that reminds you just a bit of home? Taiwan Bowl is the place! Come visit Mama Su and get a warm plate of food, with soup and a drink! I love going to Taiwan Bowl when I'm missing my parents just a bit too much. Mama Su always greets my bf and I with love and visits our table to talk to us for a bit. The food is super yummy! It's all homemade down to even the chili oil. She prides herself that there is no MSG in any of the food either! I always try to eat something different when I come, and today I got the Fried Fish Fillet plate and my bf got the Grilled Pork plate! We also added egg drop soup and sweet tea to our order that you can self serve. For our appetizer, we got fried squid! All the food is so good, I have no comments on which one you should get. You will be happy with all of the food items! This cozy little place is perfect for studying, hanging out with friends, or just spending your time catching up with Mama Su. Definitely a place I recommend!

Beef Noodle Soup

What a great place! I got take out beef noodle soup and the amount of noodles, chunks of tender beef, and broccoli you get is very very generous. Favor is well balanced and authentic tasting. Parking is alittle tight but I'm coming back the next time I'm in San Marcos.

Everything was delicious. Our favorite is the squid & tofu (who doesn't?!) The cashier/host was really friendly and very nice. He helped us to get the most yummy food since this is our first time here. The lady who's cooking all the food (I believe she's the owner of the business) is very nice and make sure that we like our food! She explained everything about how they made the food and NO MSG at all. Would be back sometime whenever we pass by San Marcos. Comfort food

We came here after shopping at the nearby outlet malls & this will definitely be a go-to restaurant if we ever drive past San Marcos! The owner (also the chef) was super welcoming & we had a great conversation with her. Everything was so flavorful and delicious - it is definitely one of the most authentic Taiwanese food that I've eaten in Texas so far! Ever since moving to USA from Taiwan, I've been craving this type of food (esp the the fried squid and fried pork) & Taiwan's Bowl was exactly what I needed to fulfill that crave. Bonus point: their sweet tea!!! it's not like the typical southern sweet tea - it is made out of earl grey tea makes me wish all the other teas sold are like this one! It is complimentary if you purchased an entrees! Highly recommend to give this place a try - good food with affordable pricing!

Authentic Taiwanese braised beef noodle soup

The main attraction to San Marcos on Sunday AM is glass bottom boat ride. But my real intention is lunch afterwards. I heard about this quaint little Taiwanese restaurant quite sometime and gotta give it a try. It is located near Texas State University. Once we entered and ordering food, the owner greeted from the kitchen. Food arrived quickly and we were dived in right away. She came out briefly and said hello and checked on every tables. Not only the food is delicious, but the warm hospitality of the staff will make your trip worthwhile.
