As a hibachi addict I can be quite picky but Taisho knocks it out of the park every single time. The staff is friendly and the chefs are very experienced. The salads are always fresh, the rice is always delicious, and the chicken and steak are always tender and perfectly cooked. My husband regularly gets the sushi and is always impressed. I also normally do not like eating in the dining area at most Japanese restaurants and strictly prefer hibachi seating but at Taisho the dining food is just as good as if you were sitting at the hibachi table! read more

We had a party of 8 with two small children and they were very courteous and thoughtful when taking order and bringing out food. Taisho has a very nice view of the lake right on the boardwalk. The inside is very spacious with a sushi bar up front and teppanyaki tables towards the back of the restaurant. I visited for a late dinner with friends, the service was good both from the server and chef. The food was good as well, I personally tried the thin sliced steak teppanyaki, chicken katsu, and a large warm sake. All items were delicious, I would definitely go back to try out the sushi menu. read more

We took our 20 year old grandson here for his birthday. We sat in the back where they have the hibachi grills. Very typical hibachi show. Our chef was very entertaining and interacted with everybody. The food was good, but nothing special. We didn't order from the sushi menu, so we can't comment on that part. If you sit in the front or outside you will have a great lake view. I would probably go back and try the sushi menu. We give this 3.5 stars. read more

I don't write reviews so this is telling. I would give negative stars if I could. I came in to place an order to go and waited for abt an hour for my food. The service is terrible and some of the workers are so rude. They do not seem like they care at all, I was not once acknowledged i had to get their attention, and felt like they were blowing me off -one worker walked away and cut me off in the middle of my sentence and once I expressed my concerns to a manager saying that all these workers are passing by me not acknowledging me for a whole hour and I'm seeing other ppl get their food before me one of the manager's had an attitude and his excuse was "oh we are busy blah blah blah" with no apology. I would not recommend this place and it's unfortunate because I really like their sushi but this experience was so horrible I'm not going back. read more

After the disastrous experience for my birthday, I decided to give Taisho another chance. Our experience that night was good. So we came back a third time. This time we realized the this place is basically hit or miss. Last Friday we got a young Hispanic guy, and we did not like the way he cooked our food. He overcooked the shrimp, the fried rice was not as tasty and the chicken was lacking sauce. Filet mignon was fine. I also noticed that he was allowing the steak and shrimp to touch while he was cooking. This is a hazard for someone allergic to shell fish, like my son in law. I am going back this Thursday night with other family members that have never been. I wonder if I should ask for an Asian cook or will that be considered racist. We always pay $100 plus for our dinner and I expect to be able to enjoy it. read more

Visited on a Tuesday evening with my husband and 2 year old. Both loved the food. My son ate all of the salad and liked the soup as well. I was surprised to see that both came with the children's meals. I wish the restaurant would consider including a kid's size drink with the meals. Otherwise it's a separate cost. Service was good however the sushi rolls were mediocre at best. Our spider roll and soft shell crab appetizer were both very fishy. I always order my favorite spicy salmon roll but theirs wasn't as good either, nothing I'd come back and order even if I was craving it. Their fried veggies appetizer was good though! As sushi places go........I have no input. I don't eat sushi but my sis and niece do and I came upon this place (newly opened) and noted they had a menu with chicken and noodle dishes for moi! I mean, the sushi boat in the pic is so accurate. I was impressed though I don't eat any of it. It was very pretty and based on my sister's and niece's input, the fish was super fresh and everything was delicious. I got a noodle dish with chicken AND beef and it came with these 2 dipping sauces for the meats and a side salad with this amazing ginger salad dressing. I loved every bite. Really good flavors and the ambiance was really nice. The hibachi side was opposite the dining side which lined the lake side. Really nice for a lunch spot but I'm sure an impressive spot for a date night as well. read more

This is probably one of the best sushi place in Cypress. What makes this place special is the service. Amber and Amy go out of their way each time we dine here and we really appreciate that. A couple of recommendations are that they try to employ a true sushi chef that knows how to cut the fish. I realize it's hard to find good help in the suburbs but I think they're one chef away from having a genuine experience. The other is to reduce the size of their menu. It's HUGE. The sushi is good and the hibachi is pretty good as well. Normally the service is a little slow, but this Valentine's Day takes the cake in slow service. We had a reservation for 7:45 and didn't leave until 9:30. It took 30 minutes before something me even took our drink order, and hour before we could even order our dinner and they brought our dishes out one by one instead of all together. And I'm usually pretty patient going out on Valentine's Day but we watched several tables come and go after we had arrived, so it's not like they were slammed. Waited an hour before we received 1/2 of our order. Our server was actually the manager. She spent her time behind the bar and never checked on us. We never did receive the rest of our order, when I asked the manager about our order, she couldn't have cared any less. I just asked for our check for what we did receive and left. We had dinner at Taisho and found the room to be nice, the food good & service ok. We did have some feedback for the manager ( because we live close by & really want a good restaurant at the Boardwalk) and she handled the whole beautifully. The menu is a bit expensive but we are willing to happily pay for a meal that meets the following criteria: food good, good ambience, & good service. BTW, I had a French 75 cocktail for the first time & really liked it. We will go back to Taisho's. read more

This restaurant is right on the lake with beautiful patio views. It also has nice ambience inside. We ordered a variety of appetizers, bento box, and sushi rolls and everything was excellent. Great location, great environment, great set up. They have traditional tables and a sushi bar towards the front of the restaurant which faces the lake and several teppanyaki tables in the back of the restaurant. I had lunch here with coworkers and we did the lunch teppanyaki which was good, who doesn't love hibachi. We also ordered a combination sushi platter which we shared. There was more than enough sushi for all three of us. The servers and the teppanyaki chef were attentive, helpful and friendly. A very good experience overall. read more
