There is an undeniable charm and warmth when doing business with 'some' family owned & operated establishments. Tailwinds Over Frederick is one such place. This family owned Hot Air Balloon enterprise is an exceptional treasure located in Frederick County, Maryland. If you're looking for a wonderful adventure for your own personal enrichment or to share, Tailwinds Over Frederick could be the place for you! I purchased a hot air balloon ride for 2 reasons: (1) to try & get over my fear of heights; and (2) it was my birthday! When I arrived, I was met by the mother & Patrick. They were so cordial and welcoming, I actually felt like I knew them - and that was the first time I'd ever seen them. Their hospitality put me at ease right away. When they were inflating the balloon that would carry me, I jumped right in there, grabbed a pair of gloves lying on the grass and asked if I could help! They loved it, and showed me what to do. I am one of those people who don't ride roller-coasters (I can't handle the stomach-flipping drops). But this hot air balloon ride was so smooth, I didn't feel the ascension at all. I saw it, but didn't feel a thing. Once we reached the height of 2,800 feet, I was amazed at how quiet it is up there. There's no noise, no traffic, no sirens, no cell phone, the only sound came from the heat being blown into the balloon. It was perfect! It felt more like I was going up in an open elevator. We had impeccable weather conditions for our sunset flight. The icing on the cake was the Champagne Toast when the ride was over. Everything about my experience with Tailwinds Over Frederick was first class from start to finish!! If you're trying to find something to do locally, to create a lasting cherished memory, book a hot air balloon ride with this family. They will make your experience one to remember! ~Have a great flight!! :) Tip: Wearing or carrying a light jacket or sweater is advisable. Temps at higher altitudes run cool to cold.

It's important people know that a safe flight is significant to this business (and it should be to you personally as well). That being said, before I decided to go with this company for my balloon flight I did my research on this type of experience and other companies within the DMV. I was happy with the reviews and the customer service I received from the business and decided to go with them. My first scheduled flight, I drove to the meeting point and spent about 30 minutes waiting until it was decided we couldn't go up. My first scheduled flight was rescheduled due to wind. Was I upset? No. I knew going in that I needed to be flexible because the last thing I would want is an experience that would be unsafe and scary. My second scheduled flight, things went entirely different (there was also way less wind!). Take off was like and easy glide up, descent was smooth. That being said, not every flight is the same! There is a safety talk before the flight about what to do during take off/landing. Overall, I found the experience wonderful, memorable, and I couldn't be more happy with the service and professionalism from the owners and their team! Tip for first time flyers!! Be FLEXIBLE. You have to understand that your flight could be rescheduled. This is for your safety and everyone else's who may be flying that day. Know that when booking your flight/trip.

I must give a shout-out to Patrick - our pilot - for help creating this surreal birthday moment for my wife. It was the perfect day and the perfect team. A BIG thank you to Megan (for communication, prompt responses, and caring), the crew members who are really friendly, nice, and thoughtful enough to take the picture of our balloon, and Patrick, for making us feel so secure and comfortable throughout the ride. My wife, two daughters (Teens), and I - we all had the first-timer fear, and my mom was scared of heights but Patrick was so good at putting everyone at ease. I must say, the landing was faultless and gentle! It was a perfect birthday gift! MNM

He chatted with us for a really long time, asking about what we were interested in, why we popped in, and on and on. He also told us his own history and the Boulder Yard's history. He gave us a few specific suggestions and ideas, including that his sets are a bit different than most (they are) and, more important, his floor cushioning is very different than most other gyms. It is. It is much MUCH softer than most which is good but he suggested taking a few falls before we went too high just to get used to the feel. It's also like walking on the beach --- walking from one side of the room to the other will wear out your legs. His walls are not textured (mostly) so if you're planning to smear a lot --- well, you won't. But it is more realistic this way. The majority of the place is boulders but he's also got two workout areas with equipment, two separate rooms that he uses to teach some martial arts (didn't catch what kind), and, for the helluvit, a Nintendo/Playstation/whatever setup for, I guess, if you're tired and just want to zone a bit. We'll absolutely be back. We paid $54 for two day passes; quite reasonable I think. Oh, and he does his own woodworking (as do my partner and I). Took a pic of the large benches in the front of his shop. Hand-made from some trees that he grabbed from his own yard. That was cool!!!

The okay: some of the staff seemed to be okay with being at work. The place was fairly clean and staff were cleaning throughout our visit. The food was hot, just not tasty. The fries and chicken tasted like freezer burn. I received part of my order within a few minutes; the other park took about 40 minutes. The "do-betters": Customer service is important! The checkin process was confusing and the person (wearing a night scarf) did not seem to want to help. Every patron should be treated like it's the first visit. We were dismissed so we went to another line- much better. You MUST keep eyes on your little ones. The only safety people we saw were the ones who put on the harnesses. Again, we went to a second person to have the harness double checked. I would return. However, I'll be sure to eat before, and I'll be prepared to completely monitor my little one. I gave 3 stars because the children enjoyed themselves.

Kids were cutting in line, attendants didn't enforce turns, and parents often had to step in. I even saw older kids hitting younger ones (not related to each other or together). Some attractions, like the dodge jump, were well-managed with attendants controlling lines and timing turns--that's how it should be everywhere. Safety is also a concern; with so many kids running around, it's easy for little ones to wander off. If your child loves chaos and you're prepared to supervise constantly, it's fun. Otherwise, it can be stressful for both kids and parents.

And saw the "under" orientation of the toilet paper, which violates the original patent for toilet paper holders from 1891, where the paper clearly goes over the top. The "over" configuration: * prevents the roll from brushing the wall * makes it easier to grab with one hand * reduces accidental unrolling * and, most importantly, does not make decent people feel like they're living in a lawless society. What you have here is bathroom anarchy. I must admit that tile and brushed metal fixtures actually look really nice, which somehow makes the backward roll even more upsetting. It's like a beautifully plated meal served on the floor. Moreover, the ceiling contains approximately 400 judgmental eyes observing you while you attempt to live your life. The wallpaper on the ceiling (on the ceiling!!!) has a pattern based on the "evil eye" motif (sometimes called nazar), which shows up in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern design. Traditionally it's supposed to ward off bad luck or jealousy. All it does in this case is confirm the establishment has abandoned reason and at least one of the people who work has met a psychedelic mushroom. Still, the vibe everywhere else in this place is amazing and the coffees are very very good!

There is a long bar area and also a smaller bar area near the cashier area for seating. The place is warm and cozy, definitely a place where the baristas will start to know your orders. We noticed an outdoor seating area but couldn't see the space fully to know how big it was. -service was friendly and served with smiles -I didn't see a whole lot of food options. Luckily, we came on a Saturday, when waffles are served. -tons of coffee, tea options. And hot cocoa for the kids. They even put whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon on top. My daughter felt very fancy! -waffles were delicious! Fluffy and filling! Kid approved! Cons -possibly a few more food options. I only saw toast and waffles (only on weekends) We had a great experience and would absolutely return again!
