I treated a friend to dinner here for her birthday. She had noticed it in a plaza close to her home, and wanted to try it out. I was more than happy to take her recommendation, so I proceeded to call to make a reservation. I had no idea what to expect in terms of how busy it would be. We were there on a cold weeknight, so I wasn't all that surprised that it wasn't particularly busy. We had our choice of seating, and we opted to for a nice, roomy booth away from the entrance. The restaurant is spacious and has a wide choice of tables. There are several window tables as well. The decor is calm yet chic, with soft lighting and plenty of flower arrangements. We were seated immediately, provided with menus, and served tea and water. We decided to share a salmon plate appetizer, and also a salmon platter for 2. We were grateful for the hot tea as all the items were prepared room temperature/sushi style. The portions were plenty for the both of us, and the food was fresh and tasty. We did finish everything nonetheless, so it was a perfect of combination of wanting to keep eating because it was good, but completely satisfied when we got through the plates. There was a lot of variety, so it was almost like having an all you can eat experience, without the overindulgence, excess, and waste. The staff were very attentive and quite friendly, without being overbearing. I was glad to experience this because, truth be told, when I had called to make the reservation, the staff's tone had seemed a bit gruff. In retrospect I figure it was simply a transactional phone call in a busy restaurant, where they focus their attention on customers and food preparation very nicely. We went here for an al la carte Sushi and came to Taiga. Unfortunately we were somewhat disappointed as while the food wasn't bad, the food quality was closer to AYCE quality, but at al-la-carte prices. The rolls combo was a generic dragon roll with tempura shrimp. There was one "crispy" roll which was extremely disapointing as not only was the tempura crisps soggy, there was so little filling that we could only taste cucumbers & soggy crisps. read more

We love Taiga. One of the best in the north end of the city. It's always fresh. It's always tasty. The menu is huge and they always have everything in house. There's so much choice and it's hard to decide what to have. Their sushi is good. Their soups are good too. So are the noodle dishes. The sesame chicken is tasty. We always customize things one way or another (my wife doesn't like fish eggs on her sushi pizza, for example). They are always accommodating and never make a mistake. Try it. Ventured out to a new sushi restaurant nearby. The food is excellent and fresh. The variety of rolls and dishes is amazing.. at first you are a little overwhelmed as you are unsure about what to order then you realize that everything looks amazing and you want to eat it all! I ordered for pick up as the restaurant is still closed to dining in with the restrictions and all. My order was ready and nicely packaged when I got there. The fish was not fresh and not the usual set -- while I understand that the chef might substitute something, the fish that was subbed in was really gross and too "fishy". I couldn't even eat it. Actually, I only finished half the set bc my body was telling me not to continue. Then stomach ache. I feel like so many of these restaurants with contrasting reviews are just them being inconsistent -- this place can be bomb. Taiga Japan House opened up just before the pandemic shut-down. I just had the chance to try it for takeout last weekend, The place looks nice, decent in size, typical environment among competitors. The type of packaging is great, good solid containers and everything is packaged okay. In terms of cleanness, the place looked clean, but employees didn't seem like following procedures. There were two visible employees, none of them had any masks or any gloves. Handling everything by bare hands! Quality if food is mediocre, the sushi portions are big and full, but the taste ranks about 6/10. I tried the: Green dragon roll California roll Calamari Tempura shrimp Chicken katsu lunch Edamame (free with meal) Overall, not the best experience, and perhaps will not return again, which is a shame as i've been hoping it'll be good as it's in the neighbourhood. read more

Very good atmosphere with good service. They try to let you enjoy the food and give space for you and your companies with least distraction. The sushi rolls are cheaper than most sushi restaurants. They have a large variety of different rolls, including hand pressed, torched sushi, regular maki, hand rolls and sashimi. Every single one is impressive. - The tempura rolls are very crispy! The shrimp is very hot so you can tell they're freshly fried! - the cucumber rolls is a must try. I never order something like that but I went with a healthy friend and she ordered this. Very fresh and healthy but doesn't taste fat or full. Love it and it became a "must order" when I come here - love the cups here - most rolls are $5-9, most expensive ones are $12 for 8 pieces. Been getting lunch from here the past few weeks. Food is made quickly, the fish is incredibly fresh, portion size is amazing and service is great. They brought me and my friend ice cream on the house for our first time there. Overall, the food is fantastic and I highly recommend this place. I had no expectations but I was greatly surprised when I opened the package to see double the portion of food from Ginza sushi (which I also don't recommend for sanitary reasons.) I was quickly disappointed at the first taste of the sushi because it was bland, mushy and had no avocados in it! Only cucumber the flavour was very bland and the fish did not taste fresh at all. Even the miso soup had no taste!!! Practically just water. That was a lot of food for the lunch special but I would never go again. I was really looking forward to trying out this new sushi spot. I Uber eats an order from this location. It tasted good but the sushi rolls were cut really big and were hard to eat so It made it less enjoyable. They also didn't provide any utensils which wasn't too big of a deal but didn't feel the same eating sushi with a fork lol. Overall, this place is okay. One of those places where you go 3 times: the first time, the last time, and once too many. Looking for a new Japanese restaurant, saw it online. Other than the sushi, the food came out quickly. However, the udon soup smelled and tasted like bleach. Deep fried soft shell crab had too much batter. Salad lettuce was bitter, which means old. Miso soup was flavourless (better than bleach). Chicken and veg were swimming in sauce, looked like a soup. No one likes their meal, and then the sushi arrived... Ran home with a stomach ache. read more

My boyfriend and I ordered takeout: Green Dragon Roll, Salmon Delight Set, Beef Kushyaki and a California Roll Everything was excellent and very fresh! The presentation was very well thought out and made the takeout experience very pleasant. The quality was very good for the price as well. Overall, a great first impression! We supported this local business through the lockdown for almost two years. But, unfortunately, no longer. We had a very bad experience lately with multiple mistakes in the orders and packing 6 rolls instead of 8. Communication with the management didn't bring much of a results and they are rude on the phone. Cant recommend this business anymore. read more

Have ordered take out from Taiga a couple times, always coming back for the house special rolls and sashimi. Their house special rolls are packed with fish and vegetables not too much rice, many are topped with tobiko, love that. Sashimi is cut thick as well. My favourite is the yellowtail, more expensive than salmon, tuna etc but worth it. read more

This is the cutest hidden little restaurant ever! First of, me and my roommate were out a bit late and we were looking for some food. We saw this sushi place and we've been dying to get sushi so we decided to go inside this place and it was empty which is perfect since this whole summer all restaurants were always packed. Anyways the first thing we noticed is the cute little decorations and how absolutely clean this place is! It is a very quiet place and the service is amazing. When we First got the menu the sushi was so cheap!! We were amazed by how cheap it was but yet came with so many pieces. Me and my roommate got two orders of the same thing and let me tell you we were so full by the time we left and there was a bit left over. When they brought out the food it was organized on this plate in the most cleanest and cutest way possible they had made a swan out of the lemon and it truly made our night. The total came out to $12.40 (Split). Before we left one of the workers who came with our bill asked us if we wanted ice cream on the house and the smiles that it put on our faces was amazing! The place looks good, clean inside. But the food they gave us was not edible. I'd rather eat some instant noodles or buy sushi from a Walmart. This is my first experience being served a crab imitation sticks AS A SASHIMI in a sushi/roll/sashimi party tray. Avocado colour was dark yellow instead of green which means it's almost rotten. Overall taste is something that you would expect out of a superstore or Walmart sushi. Try it yourself or just take my advise and find something else. read more
