May I just say before I write this that my family and I have been regular customers to the Tai Pan restaurant for 19 years and I have never had any complaints... However for the last year or so it has progressively gone down hill. I took my family here last January for my birthday, and despite being known to the staff, they treated us like strangers and moved us from our originally assigned corner and stuck us in the back, literally next to the toilet. They were rude. Abrasive, and slack (my elderly grandmother had to ask 4 times for a glass of water. They then eventually brought over a bottle of evian. We said no no, tap water please. And it came 5 minutes there after)
That aside, tonight I was hungry and thought 'hey, lets try Tai Pan'. 6 months has passed and I have fond memories of their food from years ago. So I called up and ordered my food. "£9.50" said the gentleman on the phone. I called back after to double check the price. Again, "£9.50". So swung by there about an hour ago to collect it and was met by the tall chap. Michael... "£18.00" he says. I say "no no, on the phone it was "£9.50?" So he trusts a menu on my chest and tells me they hiked their prices last week. I must have misheard. I said "this is ridiculous" and he just stared blankly at me. The nerve.
And the worst of it? I get home and I look at my food... The noodles were in clumps. Looked like meatballs. There were 3 distinctly different shades of colour in my noodles. Some clumps were dark brown, almost black. Others an almost-white shade of yellow. Uncooked. Yum yum. Unfortunately I get the impression they scraped miscellaneous left overs from other meals into the tub the gave me. And I tasted it. The taste of the blatant microwaved food was overpowering. And the duck tasted like rubber...
I apologize for for the long review. Though I think its justified after 19 years of frequenting this place. And I've had it Tai Pan. I really have.
So to sum up- The food used to be good...but now they've just hiked the prices and removed the quality. Oh. and you'd get better customer service from a scarecrow dressed in a suit with a scrawled on mouth, eyes, and smile. read more
