For the last year or so, my buddy and I get together every Friday night for dinner/drinks. We used to go different places each week, but after a couple of months, we'd decided this is our spot. Why? The food is always good, the service is always great, wait times are minimal, prices are very reasonable, and the atmosphere is much better than anywhere else we'd gone. In the dozens of times we've been here, we had a minor issue one time with the way something was prepared. Our server was apologetic and eager to make it right. The manager came out, apologized, discounted the meal and offered us complimentary dessert. They went above and beyond in this case, and it was a minor issue. We have gotten to know our servers in this time. They always address us by name and offer to get our usual drinks started as soon as we are seated. To be honest, I was shocked to see the amount of negative reviews on here. Our experiences here have always been great - far better than elsewhere in Visalia. We will continue to be regulars here and highly recommend Tahoe Joe's to friends, family, and strangers here on Yelp. read more

Appetizers, 2 Meal/ A side & Soup or salad, &Dessert! --Bread rolls at seating... (they were busy and I had to ask for the bread, but I didn't mind lol was just curious if they still offered it) OUR PICKS 1 APPETIZER: Crab cakes, some of the best we've had 2 MEALS we ordered-- with a side & soup or salad) + A Dessert (Pie) I got, Prime Rib with a dipping sauce, vegetable rice pilaf + clam chowder were both good as well! The chowder could have been heated a little more.. I like Mine like it just came out the pot , so preference. Husband got, Joes Steak with Mountain Mashers (potatoes ) + Green Beans + side Cesar salad.. All so good together. BOTH STEAKS WERE SO FLAVORFUL! This was one of the most disappointing experiences at this Tahoe Joe's. After ordering it took over an hour and 15 minutes to receive our food. And when the food came, it was not quality. It was cold, dry, and stale. The waitress was very kind, but the overall experience was not good, at all. To top it off, they added a 20% gratuity onto the check. Made a reservation on Mother's Day 2026. Went at our confirmed time and was told there was a minimum 1 hour wait! I explained that I had a confirmed reservation and they said sorry but our kitchen is backed up. There were a lot of empty tables and a lot of people waiting. I asked who the manager was but they didn't send her out. There were two hostesses just standing there apparently to tell everyone they weren't going to seat them and honor reservations. So now it is dinner time on Mother's Day and we have to find somewhere else to eat without a reservation. I'm surprised to see this place having 2 1/2 stars because my experience was very very different. I wish I remembered my waiter's name b/c he was just the sweetest, most attentive guy. We came about an hour before they closed and ordered an appetizer, drinks, and our entree. We were celebrating our 1 year anniversary and what we loved is that it's quaint, quiet (when we went), and the menu wasn't insanely long. All the food came out in a timely manner and was spaced out so I didn't feel overwhelmed with a ton of dishes to eat. I would 100% come back. Ordered their thanksgiving meal for the first time and it did NOT disappoint!! A week later and we are still finishing it!! The most surprising and exciting thing was their cranberry sauce was fresh whole cranberries with orange zest!! I'm the only one that likes cranberry sauce and I have put it on everything from stuffing to chicken pineapple pizza from dominos!! The manager Deneka (sorry of spelled wrong) was amazing and compassionate during the ordering process and pickup. Food was fantastic and a bargain. Military discount as well!! read more

I wish there were a way to post 2 separate ratings one for food and one for service. All week I was looking forward to celebrating my retirement at Tahoe Joe's, so I was a little frustrated when it did not live up to expectations. That food did not disappoint. I give the food a 10/10. My steak was cooked to perfection the sides were perfectly seasoned. If I do eat here again, I'll order out. My waitress was friendly hence the 2 stars, but I had to ask for the brunch menu, I had to ask someone to take my order because my waitress was busy talking to coworkers. She did check on me once after my food was delivered but someone else refilled my drink for me. I thought of timing her to see how much time she spent chatting but figured that was a bit excessive and to just note it in my review. Update: gave it a second chance: I had the potato soup which was very creamy and had few actual potato chunks in it. The onion straws were the best part of the meal. Crisp and served with horseradish and bbq sauce. My pasta had no flavor to it just aldente pasta. I took it home and added Alfredo sauce. The artichoke chunks were bite size but only 2 of them in the whole dish. The chicken was cooked thoroughly but again no flavor. What a disappointment again! read more

Service was great, staff were friendly and attentive. Food quality though was not good. My wife and I ordered the prime rib (medium-rare for me and medium for my wife) and it was very tough. I had to cut it into very thin slices in order to be able to chew it enough to swallow it (I almost choked on a bigger piece) and my wife couldn't chew it at all and had to spit it out. Went in on Sunday Feb 9th for lunch. It was right after they opened. Only one or two other parties inside. The restaurant was very clean but it was very dark. I understand the theme is cozy wood cabin, but it was very dark. We had to use the table light and also the flashlight on our phone to read the menu. (I promise we aren't old lol). Greeted and seated immediately. Right as soon as we got to our table our server was right there asking for a drink order, we gave it and she immediately returned with our two 805s and ice waters. She left the table and returned a few seconds later with the sourdough bread rolls. The bread seemed kinda stale but they were ok nonetheless. She gave us a few minutes to look over the menu and returned shortly. My husband ordered the chicken pot pie soup as an appetizer and the wood grilled bbq chicken. That came with Mashed potatoes and gravy and the vegetable was green beans. I ordered Joes steak medium with loaded baked potato and also came with green beans. About 30 seconds later she returned with the soup. The soup was ok, but it was barely lukewarm warm. I feel it hadn't gotten to temperature yet. And about two minutes into the soup all of our food came out. Nothing was hot. The baked potato was very firm and the butter wasn't even really melting into it. There was a knob of butter that was on my green beans and that did not melt. My steak was so very very very chewy. Yes I cut it correctly. It was cooked perfectly and even a little under and I was happy about that but it was a challenge to cut and eat. My husband liked his chicken breast. It was very thin. But still tasty. Our server was super friendly and checked on us many times. I don't feel like she was rushing us, I feel like she does her job and does it well. It is SO nice to see the staff being so attentive and not slacking off. Very much appreciated. Definitely plan on returning based on that alone. read more

I'd like to say first that the service was alright at most, it wasn't good or bad. The waiter sat us at a table with an unplugged lamp that we had to plug in, and due to the low brightness of the place we couldn't read the menu perfectly until we plugged it in. The place was empty for the amount of seats it has, and the food still took a while to come out (30-40 minutes) for a group of 5 people. I will say that the artichoke spinach dip is the best thing I tried at the restaurant with a solid 4.6/5. Although the bbq ribs are way too sweet even for someone who likes bbq, and the rice served as a side tastes like fish. read more

Not from around these parts, but was here for some little league baseball tournaments. Kinda random little town, but it does sit on the doorsteps to Sequoia National Park. So there are decent hotels and restaurants in the area. Found this place and I swear it used to be up in the Bay Area too. Got here pretty much as soon as it opened at around 5:30, only because we had a light lunch and needed to get back on the road north before it became too dark. Large space, and it was pretty much empty when we got there. And for the two hours we were there, only a handful of groups showed up. If this was a typical day, not sure how this place could survive. First impressions - nice ambiance. I like the decor and it seemed like it was purposely on the darker side. Lack of TVs though as we wanted to watch some football. One negative thing - upon entering, the front smelled of a combination sewage and cleaning product/bleach smell. Really really offputting. Our group got tons of food, but the highlights for me were the loaded nachos as an appetizer which could have easily doubled as an entree. For myself, I got me a steak and chicken combo. Steak was perfectly cooked, juicy and tender with nice flavor. Chicken looked dry but was actually moist. And tasty. I'd definitely do this combo again. One of my buddies raved about the ribs. Tahoe Joe's Visalia. Had a very disappointing experience for an early Mother's Day lunch. Had a short 10 minute wait to be seated. Everything from that point was subpar. Took another 10 minutes for server to bring us rolls, but did not offer to take a drink order. Another 10-15 minutes before we got our drink order taken at which time we said we were ready to order as well. Took over 20 minutes for food to arrive. Ice tea looked like water. A new brewed cup was eventually brought out. Server only checked on us once, then failed to bring out refills. Bill was not brought to our table, had to go to front to request. Did not see any servers circulating in the restaurant. I ordered wood grilled chicken which was over cooked. Mashed potatoes were very cold. Tahoe Joe's Fresno had the worst customer service. Perfect place to take your worst enemy--epitome of anti-date night. What is the point of making a reservation if it's not going to be honored? Went for Valentine's Day, and the service was appalling. You would think they were PAYING US to be there. If you are going to make your guests wait, at the very least, treat them with some decency. Also, the peeling paint, dead carcass on the walls, and outdated furniture are the icing on top. You cannot even get a nice view with your meals. There are much better places in Fresno. First of all I would like to say that the servers were friendly. The food was not great and it is very overpriced for what came on our plates. I ordered jumbo crab cakes and they looked like little pork patties. I also ordered mashed potatoes and I never received them but still got charged for them even after I told them I never received them. They brought me some pasta that was supposed to be some kind of Alfredo sauce on it but it really looked like it just had melted butter on it. The noodles and sauce had no flavor. I think the best thing on my plate were the veggies. My daughter ordered artichoke dip and a side of fries and she said her fries tasted like fish. My husband ordered a chicken sandwich and he said for all the ingredients it had inside, you would think it would taste better! Not going back there again... Just a big waste of money and time. As I ALWAYS say, I dislike giving bad reviews.....But really??? (The Kudos are at the end.) First of all it was so cold in the restaurant and the cold air was blowing directly on us. We were told that no matter where we sat it was going to be cold. Oh my goodness then the meal started out with an artichoke and spinach dip appetizer that barely covered the bottom of the small cast iron pan. There was an oversized clump of tomato garnish in the center. But honestly, there was hardly any dip. The soup, chicken pot pie, was delicious though. I didn't order it but tasted my "dotter's." My salad (requested with dressing on the side) arrived soaked in dressing! That was returned and voila my original salad request materialized. No complaints there. Prime rib 10 oz medium rare came RARE! It could not even be cut with their sharp steak knife and was cold. Another prime rib was presented (medium rare) but sadly the meat quality was not up to par; lots of fat and gristle. My son-in-law ordered the crab cakes and couldn't eat them because they were too salty. Well in his words "suuuper salty." A cup of coffee was ordered due to the cold milieu and it too was cold! I mean COLD! Family tasted it and the general consensus was a look of WTHeck! Yep! Cold! Another cup was brought to our table and it was so bitter it could not even be saved with 3 packs of sugar. It too was not hot and seemed to have been swimming in the bottom of the pot for days. I had wanted this dinner to be a great experience especially for my son-in-law. He went above and beyond to bring my family to my town. They rented an Airbnb for 5 days so I wouldn't have to drive down south to spend Thanksgiving. On that note, the shining factor....the REAL Star......our waitress Miss Macy! Let me start this by saying that I think Tahoe Joes is a decent Steak House. That being said avoid this Tahoe Joes. We went on a Monday night and the place was maybe about a 1/4 full, so not busy but the service was so slow you would have thought the place was packed, but slow service I can deal with it was the food and the cleanliness that bothered me. First the restroom was bad. There were problems with the toilets and you could just tell that it hadn't been cleaned in a wile. My wife said the women's bathroom was equally as bad. Now Tahoe Joes food is usually pretty solid, but this was not. I ordered the half chicken and broccoli and my wife ordered Joe's steak and broccoli. Both our sides of broccoli came out mushy, cold and flavorless. The chicken was cold as well my wife said her steak was good but it was smaller than the kids steak we ordered for our son. We were in a party of 10 so maybe the food was cold because it was a larger party. I don't know but I will not be back. read more

Not the friendliest service I've ever had, but then I wasn't in the best mood being pushed into the bar area. The real reason why I'm doing this review is because of the food. I usually get the Joe's steak, but being Mother's Day I splurged and got the ribeye. I asked for medium well, but it was well done and extremely dry. Besides being overcooked and dry, the meat had a grainy texture. I never send food back so I asked the waiter for some au jus hoping that would help, it did not. I really don't want to write this review, but I feel it's necessary. I'll start with the check in. Party of 6, two of the 6 are under 3 years old. Sunday night at around 6:00pm, the place was a ghost town. Maybe 5 tables had guests, the rest of the place was empty. "There's a 15 minute wait." Seriously? We're seated, menus brought, drink orders taken. We ordered our meals. Two soups and salads. Joes Steak (medium). Kids chicken strips One of their burgers. The salads came out. Then about 10 minutes later the steak came out, cooked well done. I got about half way through my steak, no soups and no burger. We waved someone down and they informed us that they were out of the soup we ordered. Still no burger. We waved someone else down to ask about the burger (I'm now finished with my steak). Instead of taking care of it, the person chased down our waitress, she then went to the back and asked about it, it was never cooked. When it finally came out, it was completely raw on the inside. Not rare, raw. To their credit, they removed the burger from our tag, then my son in law went to Canes because he was starving. This was a really bad night at Tahoe Joes. read more

I've been coming for years as a favorite but I'm done. The beef has been consistently poor quality-sandwich was tough and all gristle; the calamari was mushy not pistachio crusted and the onion straws were a pile of onions with no straw. The crab cakes were moist so it gets the 2. It took us 15 minutes to get service and more to get our food and it was a Saturday. Please get some changes made so we can come back someday. read more

I live in San Luis Obispo, before Covid our Tahoe's was a great place after Covid it started to go downhill fast. The main problem is the kitchen it's super slow except for appetizers. 2nd The waiters are just as slow and great at disappearing. This is why our Tahoe Joe's closed. I was in Visalia 6-13-25 stopped in for lunch. We walk in and it looked empty, so we waited about 7 min before host popped out. We get our drinks and place our order. Other new couples came in about 5 min after we placed our order. We get our appetizers 20 min later we see the waiter coming with food only to serve the new customers that came in before us. 10 min later our food finally came. My friends and I got there later in the evening and the staff was very friendly and helpful. They put some tables together to handle the 8 of us. The service was decent. It wasn't busy, I think because of the construction going on which made things difficult to get to the restaurant. Anyway, the young lady may have been busy cleaning up other things because they were slowly getting ready to close, but I think she could have stayed on top of our drink orders a little better. The ambiance was that of of casual steak joint. Sort of like a Black Angus, but maybe even more casual. As for the food, it was good. The steak was different. It was tender but it was slow roasted as opposed to a hard grill. The nachos were good, plenty of the items were on top, but needed more on the bottom center layers. My friend who ordered the salad was very satisfied with it, and the chicken was also very tasty and filling. Overall a good meal. read more

My wife and I went for dinner Friday night around 5 pm. We were seated immediately and the server came out and took our drink and appetizers order. Drinks and Railroad shrimp were served and they tasted amazing. My wife ordered the filet and I had the 10 oz prime rib. Her filet was cooked perfect and everything was great with her meal. My prime rib came out lukewarm and did not look like it was sliced from a hot prime rib out of the oven. The au jus was hot so I dipped the meat and ate my meal. We left happy after spending $147.00 for dinner. I woke up at 1:30 am in the morning and realized something was not right in my stomach. I ran to the bathroom and realized I was doing a cleanse for a colonoscopy. The rest of my morning was spent vomiting and sitting on the toilet. Prime rib is one of my favorite meals and I hope I am not traumatized from now on. Hopefully the kitchen staff will be trained on maintaining the correct temperature on meals coming out of the kitchen. read more
