This place is great, comfort food combined with quick service. My favorite place to eat.

We were looking for a place to eat breakfast. On Yelp and Google. Something quick, good, and a new place we haven't tried before near Hollywood area. Taft Street Cafe popped up as a first recommended choice on both Google and Yelp in Hollywood so we went. The place can be a bit tricky to find for first timers since it's located inside the building but there are signs everywhere so hopefully you will be just fine. We were a little lost but following the signs we were able to find it just fine. Unfortunately we weren't able to try the food here today because there was an odor in the restaurant that I couldn't describe. Suddenly it was bothersome for us to comfortably breathe, and lost our appetites. There are plenty of parking spaces. Maybe some people will resent me for sharing what I said. For the most part I am not picky so I will try different food and restaurants but for some reason, 1 minute inside this restaurant was 1 minute too long. Please give this place a try and let me know what I missed out on because the photos of the food they serve look delicious! read more

An absolute greasy spoon , my neighbor wanted me to take her here for breakfast but I really don't like this place for more than one reason . When I was going to place my order I didn't want the greasy potato home fries nor the bread and grits . All I wanted was extra cheese and the eggs at 1300 for three egg omelet . So unexpected! The cafe is a hidden gem. You really have to be in the know to find the place. I was lucky enough to have a co worker point it out so we could have a friendly brunch. Follow your GPS and look for the small sign on the side of the road. You will see an office building toward the back and wonder if the direction were wrong! Nope it is IN the office building. The service was wonderful and friendly. We were able to sit and chat without interruption. The decor may be a little out dated but perfect for me. It brought back memories of places I would go to when I was a kid. The food is nothing fancy. It is just basic good eats. Prices can't be beat. If you don't know where this place is, could you find it? Peps! What a darling little diner. As long as I lived close by this place, this was the first time I had been here! I was with some high school friends. Sadly, after a funeral, there were 15 of us. I have to tell you the lady was a no-nonsense, she took our order and off she went. One thing you can't deny about Taft Street Cafe is that the staff works incredibly hard. They were running around at top speed, managing a very large crowd of diners. I wish their hard work translated to excellent customer service and delicious food, but the whole experience left us underwhelmed. The first thing you notice when you walk in is the dated decor. Dont get me wrong, the place is clean, it's just more of a dive than a diner. More important than the ambiance is the food. None of it was seasoned at all, not even with salt and pepper. I'm not sure what that sauce was on the eggs benedict, but it surely was not hollandaise. Plus, the English muffin wasn't even toasted. It was so off-putting that when my husband gave me a bite, I wanted to spit it out into a napkin. He was hungry, so he ate it. We would have mentioned something to our server, but nobody ever came back to check on us after the food was dropped off. I ordered the spinach and feta omelette that was on special. The omelette was way overcooked and so dry that it split in half (a clean break) when they tried to fold it. This place has all the classic dishes and it looked like it was well supported by the locals. Some friends wanted to eat here for a bite so we joined them. It's a typical diner, I am not a big fan of diners so I'm probably not your best recommendation for a diner. I ordered a BLT and it was pretty good. It didn't come with any fries, that would have been extra. The service was fair for a diner, fairly quick just not real personable. Just close your eyes and picture yourself in an 80's dinner restaurant. No frills and thrills, just good tasty food! Total meal cost $13.10!! Tuna salad was delicious, French fries were cooked just right (no oily or greasy after taste), coleslaw was fresh and also full of flavor. Don't expect a fancy place but do expect it to be clean and surrounded by memorabilia from the 80's including all decor. If you're in the area, swing by but you do need to come early. Tary Café is one of those places that if you know you know just getting here alone it's literally in a cut so you really have to do your due diligence and figure out exactly right where it is but once you get there it's amazing text café is a staple in the Hollywood community. It's been here so long and the people would as their treat you with the most of Respect and they make sure that you get to take the time to walk you through the menu so the service A1 not a fool was pretty pretty good. I'm not gonna lie eat the French toast is good. The eggs was good. I wish you would've gave me a lot more eggs at the time but that's OK. Everything seems pretty pretty good. I'm not a lot and then the prices here are very very reasonable. The ambience is cool. It gives you like a like a flashback into the past type of vibe, but I'm pretty sure you would like it. Gave this place a try for breakfast this past weekend. GPS takes you to the right vicinity but was a tad off at finding the front door, which is a labeled glass door. It is part of an office building (?) so don't expect the typical store front. We were told to seat ourselves. Several staff in the entrance area. There's a specials menu on the wall at the front. Definitely a low key place. I think they are super used to just regulars. First server to greet us at the table turns out to just be in charge of drinks. She said our server would be with us shortly. Another server came by with the menu and proceeded to probably asked us 3 times in a short amount of time if we were ready to order. She was nice about it, not a big deal. Prices were affordable, but just didn't know what to expect. My wife got one of the basic breakfasts, eggs, bacon, hash browns, toast. I got the eggs benedict (special). Food came out very quickly. Hot sauce option is tabasco. Check is paid at the front. I give this place a solid 3.5 stars. Prices are good relative to the SFL cost of living. Food was fine, but just fine. Nothing special. Food here is really good. Only have gone for the breakfast so far. One thing I would steer far away from is the "home fries." It was a boiled potato chopped up with no salt etc and put on a plate. As soon as we sat down, a server came up to us and asked us, "what do you want to drink?" We didn't even have a menu to choose a drink from. It was awkward but she looked like she worked here for 200 years and is just the way it is. Service here is iffy. Frech toasts and pancakes are amazing. Omelets are huge. Ambiance of the place feels like I'm not "welcomed" at times if you know what I mean. My wife and I ignore all that and try to enjoy the food instead. Definitely a good spot for breakfast. read more

First time trying this restaurant, went based on reviews so I was looking forward to trying it out with my family. An older gentleman welcomed us in and told us to pick any table we'd like that. Our waitress came up and took our order. She wasn't mean but she was pretty stale; I let her know I was going to keep a menu incase I wanted to try something else. The food came out super quick which is always great but it wasn't what the reviews claimed. Either way we ate it up. I called my Waitess over and asked her to please bring me a plate of the biscuits and sausage gravy. She looked at me a little taken aback and asked "for here?" To which I replied yes please. She proceeded to let me know they are not your average biscuits and they do have a sweet undertone. I told her it was fine because after all I wanted to try it.... She brought them out in less than 2 min and they were quite delicious. But she also felt it was time to hand me the bill when only about 25% of the food on the table was gone. Didn't appreciate it to much as she made me feel she wanted us to go as soon as possible. Needless to say, 1 coffee 2 apple juices 1 lemonade, 2 chefs specials with a side order of bacon all came out to 70 something dollars. One of my favorite breakfast combinations is 2 scrambled eggs and pancakes. They were served on 2 separate dishes. I always combine them on one plate and then pour on the pancake syrup. The eggs were done right and the pancakes were fluffy. The friendly waitress made sure my coffee mug was always topped off as I enjoyed the breakfast. She was definitely on her game. The restaurant was practicing covid-19 precautions. Masks on staff. Taking time to sanitize tables before other guests sat down. They also checked my temperature when I came in. Had a chance to speak with the owner when I paid for breakfast. Extremely nice and the fact he takes care of the restaurant and his guests explains why the business has been operating successfully for a long time. read more

I really want to love this place, but unfortunately I cannot. 3 stars for the fact that it has a homey feel, the service is good and the food is edible, but I utilized this as a last resort and you should, too. This is literally off of Taft Street behind a gas station in a commercial building, so if you are not specifically looking for it, you will miss it. We got seated immediately and the place is very big. Tons of tables and the decor is very old and antiquated. Lots of photos of 50s/60s music stars. The furniture was outdated and not very good strength as the quality seemed questionable. It seems that the waitresses have been here for a very long time because they all had regulars that they knew personally. I can attest that the service was great. I split a dish with my mother and the waitress made sure to put it on two separate plates for us. The food was acceptable at best. We ordered an omelette, and it was overcooked, and they only had one type of bagels (disclaimer: this is not a bagel joint). We also ordered biscuits and gravy and the gravy was disgusting. Left an aftertaste in my mouth that was just plain awful. All in all, it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great. This is one of those places that you will venture to once and never think about again. It is definitely a spot for people that are local to the immediate area that have been coming here for decades. I would suggest coming here if you are absolutely starving and need fast service and food because it was quick. I came across this place on google. I was looking for some breakfast around the area and saw the pics/reviews and said why not. First of, the service was absolutely great. My waitress was a sweetheart and did everything to help and accommodate me. They too my temperature when I arrived and made sure that I sat on a table that was clean and available (due to the Six feet apart requirement). Second, this is a mom and pop spot. Everything tastes and looks homey. Third of, when you arrive to the area you'll feel like of off since this coffee shop is literally located in the first floor of a huge office building! Been coming here since I was a young kid with my family all the way back from the 90s. You wouldn't even know there's a restaurant here because it's located in a office building on taft. When ordering a meal they always come with an ample portion of food. The actual restaurant is still the same old styling it has been since the old days but that's definitely not a deal breaker for us. Today was no different when coming here. I got a ham and cheese omelette, with home fries, and rye toast. My son which is a 4 year old got pancakes. They are HUGE!! As big as the plate. My father got 2 eggs, bacon, and home fries with toast. We enjoyed our meals and felt good after eating them. The waitresses have all been working here for years. They're all friendly older ladies. And of course the owner Joe is always a nice guy to talk to. Whether talking classic cars or anything really.
