First know food is fresh and amazingly delish. Second known it was easy to find. We arrived for an late lunch/early dinner. We were greeted right away and seated. The place was half full but busy for an outdoor only seating kind of place. Working the tables were a father (Agustin) and son who we later learned is the owner of the joint. Every plate that came out looked so good. Drinks came out and soon after a beautifully ornate serving plate came out with three different type of salsa, lemon and freshly chopped onion and cilantro. As Augustin was taking our order, he stopped us halfway and kindly suggested this one plate (forgot what it's called) that served up four different type of meat: chorizo, al pastor, chicken and beef. He added that they came with tortillas. He said it would be cheaper that way. I thanked him and took his suggestion. That meat platter sooner came out but on it also was grilled cactus and those one long onion bulbs. Our food was bomb. We had leftovers. I noticed he knew locals and ensured every patron felt welcomed and cared for. He embodies hospitality at the finest level. Class act that guy and he has quiet the laugh. Eh. No view of either the lagoon or the Gulf, cash only, very touristy. Would not go back and wouldn't really recommend considering the other options in Cancun. If you really want the best tacos, go into the city of Cancun via the R1 or R2 bus lines (12 pesos) and try something like Taco Rigos. I get coming here if it's close to your hotel, but definitely don't go out of your way to get here. read more

Decided to try this place based on reviews. It's a hole in the wall type restaurant with outdoor seating, no air conditioning, and no views. It is NOT CHEAP for what you get. Our bill for a basic meal with 2 appetizers (guacamole and melted cheese) was approximately $78 (USD). To me, that is more expensive than a Mexican restaurant back home in the US with a much nicer facilities. The food was pretty good and on par with most of the food that we had in Cancun. As others have noted BRING PESOS. Their exchange rate is ridiculous. Our bill was 1410 pesos or $89 (USD). read more

This was my favorite place to eat in Cancun. They had a great selection of foods, including really good fresh fruit, a huge omlet, and chilaquiles. The only downsides were that it's in a kind of boring city area, and they only take cash, which was a little inconvenient. The bus system in Cancun is great so getting there wasn't too bad in the mornings though, and they were substantially cheaper (and better) than the food our resort sold. read more

Tacun is in Cancun's hotel zone, where most hotels offer all-inclusive food. Because the hotels are $$$, it makes sense that you'd want to get your moneys worth and eat most meals at the hotel. But, you should leave at least once and come to Tacun. You won't regret it. This was the most authentic and delicious food that I ate in Mexico all week. We only came in once because of the afore mentioned scenario, but I could have eaten here every day. The vibe is island casual and fun. It's a cute little straw hut with brightly colored flags and decor everywhere. The waitstaff is super hospitable and welcoming, and our server Augie was absolutely hilarious. Every meal starts out with a complimentary platter of chips and salsa. The plate has three different varieties of salsa (one mild, one smoky, one spicy!) and taco fixings like chopped onion, cilantro and lime. We also ordered guac and refried beans to start out with. The guac was smooth and creamy, and was the perfect way to start off our meal. We were starving and the tacos took a while to come out, so luckily we were able satisfy our hunger with the chips, salsa, guac and beans! Although the tacos took a while they were absolutely worth it. The pork was juicy and tender and was coated in a sauce that wasn't too spicy but had a great kick. The addition of cilantro and chopped onions added the perfect flavor and crunch.The fish taco had an enormous piece of fresh fried fish, and was topped with lettuce, tomatoes, avocado and a creamy mayo sauce. Although the pork was pretty on par with tacos that I've had at my fave spots at home. the fish was unlike anything I've ever tried. It was just so fresh. You can't find fish like that in Jersey, thats for sure. Mix in a few cool coronas and modelos to wash everything down with and you've got yourself the perfect meal. Luckily we ate here at the end of our trip, because if we had found this at the beginning I could have seen us not eating at the resort again. Tacun is an anomaly in the resort town of Cancun - not at all in a bad way. During my week long visit (with my Mexican in-laws) this is where we spent the most time. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, we were here for all aspects of the day. Tacun is probably the most down-to-earth, non-pretentious, yet good tasting place you will be able to find in the Hotel Zone. The salsa is good, the margaritas are great, the food is... good. Decent tacos, decent breakfast, good coffee. Drive here (there's parking), walk here, take the bus here - whatever. When your hotel's concierge tells you there's nothing too go eat besides the hotel's restaurant, give this place a shot. Bring pesos. read more

There is a term in Chinese used to label tourists being ripped off in foriegn countries translated to mean water fish. I didn't get that feeling during my visit here. It helps that they have a pretty high ratings from trip advisor too. This place is not on the main road but their service and quality of food is still pretty excellent! Service was super attentive. I ordered an orange juice and made a face after a taste because it was tart and the owner quickly came over and asked if everything was ok. I guess I should be careful of my face making in public. Food is pretty good and great place to grab breakfast. Love the cappuccino. I generally love it when I am not being ripped off. read more

I'm giving 5 stars because they are good but also because everything else around is way to Americanized so being able to have good Mexican food is a solid change of pace. The prices are very good considering what everything costs in the hotel zone. Chips and salsa to start, 3 options for salsa with beans and chips. Good stuff My wife and I ordered the shrimp fajitas and we were very pleased. The dish was seasoned well and tasted like one of the regular Mexican restaurants we go to back home in LA, California Service was good, the guys are all nice and on top of what you need. Fuck this place. It's literally a tourist trap. Our food was supposed to come out to 160 pesos for 2 orders of tacos and a bottle of water but they tried to charge us 200 pesos! Then on top of that, the current exchange rate is 17 pesos for 1 usd but THEIR exchange rate is 14 pesos for 1 usd. When I did the calculations, it's only supposed to be $11.50 MAX but they tried charging us $12.50! Like what? I wasn't going to agree to that so I have them $12 and left. Tbh the tacos were pretty decent considering we've only been eating the food at beach palace, but this place is such a scam for tourists or non-locals. Such good food!!! Went here based on the reviews on Yelp and we really enjoyed it. It is an outdoor restaurant so prepare to sweat it out. But the food is well worth is. I ordered the sopes de res. The sope itself is slightly thicker than a tortilla but as crunchy as a chip. Comes with pinto beans, choice of meat, lettuce, crema and queso blanco. The rest of my family got tacos de pastor and res and there were no complaints. The salsas they give to compliment the food were great as well. The habanero( spiciest)was my favorite! The tacos were super bland! Honestly I have never ate tacos that had no flavor . The tortilla soup was ok but the broth tastes like spicy tomato sauce which was really strange as well. I think the best part of the meal was the corn cream soup which was excellent . Also the service is pretty crappy. Just an awful experience. From the service to the food my group of 3 was highly disappointed. We sat down for two seconds and hadn't seen a menu so asked for a minute longer and the waiter got upset. No big deal. Then another waiter comes to our table and asks and we give him our order. The original waiter pushes the guy out of the way and says we only can order with him. A little rude but whatever. My friends order a beer and I attempt to order an appetizer then our meals. The waiter takes down the appetizer order and then proceeds to ignore my entree order. My friend then tells him politely I need to order still and he ignores him and moves onto my 3rd friend and walked away! We try to get his attention and he ignores us and gets hostile about us trying to order. We then decided to stop ordering. We got our appetizer(nachos) and the waiter came back slamming our silverware on the table like a child. He ignored us the rest of the night and wouldn't bring us our bill despite asking 4 times. He also elbowed my friend in his back and purposely walked into my chair. It wasn't just us either, he overcharged another group that night and tried to trick them into paying by bringing the same bill out at least 3 times. Worst restaurant experience of my life. Having spent time around all of Mexico I can say the food was well below average as well. read more

This place was amazing. Had great reviews on Yelp along with food photos that made me hungry! From the moment we walked in there was nothing but good vibes. We were seated and our drinks came as soon as we placed them. We were then brought chips and salsa. Three kinds of salsa. Of the 3 too were to hot to enjoy. Also in the salsa tray there was cilantro, onions, and lime. Which can in handy for the fajitas. We also ordered queso fundido, which was perfect. It was a 50/50 ratio for the cheese/chorizo. Usually you get a lot more cheese, but I'm not complaining. It was tasty! For the fajitas you could tell the meat was marinated. The shrimp, beef, and chicken were all tender and delicious. We decided to try this "whole in the wall" restaurant on one of our last days in Cancun and I wish we tried it sooner. Definitely fresh food and worth visiting. I wanted to try everything but settled on delicious steak tacos and burritos. We recommended this place to another couple we were traveling with and they did the chicken enchiladas and steak burrito. Both were happy they did. There's a Flamingo mall across the street selling souvenirs so stop stop by before or after shopping and embrace the inexpensive food. My friends and I passed this place multiple times without realizing it was there, and I cannot believe we missed out on eating here so many more times! While the restaurant is small, the atmosphere is LIVELY! All of the staff is especially friendly, and there was even a mariachi band that played "La Bamba" for my table! It made the experience that much more enjoyable. The food was AMAZING and very well-priced. The salsas were varied and each was delicious. My friends and I ordered queso, which was accompanied by fresh corn tortillas. This was the BEST queso I have ever had, and the tortillas were so good! I ordered the specialty fajitas, and I highly recommend them! It was more than enough good for one person, and I ended up taking home over half of my food to eat the next day. My one friend ordered chicken tacos; while she said they were a little dry, adding some of the salsa made them much better. Tacun is a relatively small street-side restaurant that had come up in a couple of recommendations to us - from our taxi driver on day 1 to yelp as well. It's a tiny and charming little place along the street-side of this main hotel strip. As vegetarians, though, the experience for us was just OK. The service was good and all, but the food itself. The cheese they used in one of the main entrees had a bit of a funky taste to it, while other entrees were better. Essentially, we were eating nachos and quesadillas at every joint.
