    Mariachi Tacos
    L W.

As my husband would say" Best bang for your buck." We visited here after shopping at the Mercado 28. Array of foods from carved meat for you to fresh tortillas , tacos, fruit, salad. We came here with a big group of 12 for Walt dinner. They open until 2am. Decorated with colorful flags, and hostess in pretty Mexican attire. I ordered the mariachi tacos which came with 5 different meat tacos and guacmole. Our table ordered a bunch of juices. I tried the Jima a red drink for the first time. It tasted like a light hibiscus tea. Both were enjoyable. The tacos was filled with large portions of meats. The drink that I ordered was delivered in waiters head which was impressive to see. Our group ordered a variety of dishes and all were pleased! Friendly staff, great food, fun atmosphere, worth reasonable prices, and variety of selections

The food was very well portioned, tasty and fresh. The service was prompt, and the place was very enjoyable. It's excellence for big parties and small as well, they have both indoors and outdoors seating.

A view of the ocean with slight rain

I can't believe that this is the first time coming to this establishment. I've seen it several times but always opt to go to a neighboring restaurant to watch mi abuela make fresh homemade tortillas. So, my usual restaurant happened to be bust and booked because everyone was catching a respite from the rain, which I was enjoying very much. I happened upon this restaurant that I've seen before. The staff was very welcoming and sat me right away. I immediately loved the ambiance and the views of the ocean! They were ready to get my drink order, and I stayed with my go-to in Mexico, which is their delicious refreshing Coke. I drink it with every meal after not drinking alcohol for more than two years. It used to be a piña colada, but I no longer like the virgin version of it. After perusing the menu, I decided to start with a delicious lobster quesadilla without cheese. I was waiting for some delicious quesadillas with tender, juicy, and well- seasoned lobster meat. They brought some chips to my tables with different degrees of heat. I liked the dark red one that was sweet and the salsa Verde, which was creamy and tart. When they brought my quesadillas to my table, I was surprised. It looked like chicken, and they came with French fries, which I would never order. The French fries looked limp, and I just pushed them away from my food. I took a bite into the quesadilla, and I tasted a delicious bite of well seasoned chicken with cotija cheese. It was very good but I wanted the lobster. I was going to say something to staff, but I opted not to. I just ordered a side of Mexican rice. While I was eating, a young man brought out some quesadillas to my table, and they were my lobster quesadillas. My waiter quickly walked up to him to have a conversation while glancing at my table and told him not to worry about it, it's fine in Spanish as if I couldn't understand. The young man took the plate back, and no one said anything. A manager saw me take in the conversation and came to my table with a smile and asked me if everything is good while my waiter talked to her softly in Spanish and I just decided to leave well enough alone. They were fine to charge me for what I ordered and nor what I received. I don't know if I will come back because on the one hand, it was still inexpensive and a great dining experience but on the other hand they decided to make me, a classically trained chef, eat chicken instead of lobster like I don't know the difference.

Second visit and this time it was for dinner...sadly it was not a great experience and we will not return. WARNING- BEWARE OF SNEAKY "OPTIONAL" service fee that was added to our bill without any clarification. We only wanted to tip 6$ dollars and ended up tipping more than double that with the mysterious "OPTIONAL SERVICE FEE" that was only explained to us after we had already paid and I looked closer at the total cost. ****Yes, the waiter offered to return it to our card, but we declined that as we were already on our way out of the restaurant and just found it shady service all together- we will not return.**** The food and drinks this evening were just blah, but the worse than the mediocre food was the sneaky way this business took an additional tip without telling us. They were playing music and they were the busiest of the several of the nearby restaurants and it was a little after 8pm on a Tuesday evening. We ordered fish tacos and surf and turf tacos. The fish tacos were very good according to my husband. The surf and turf tacos were blah... nothing worth taking a picture of and the flavor was just blah as well. ****The pictures are from our very first visit - lunch was amazing and I had given them 5 stars at that time... I never checked that receipt.

Great tacos. Couldn't order flour tortillas due to lard being used which is very common in Mexican cooking. If you avoid pork products, be sure to ask waiter if the tortillas or beans are cooked in "Manteca" which is lard. Relatively fast service.

One of our favorite places to visit while in Cancun. Our favorite time is to go during sunset!

2.5 stars This place came highly recommended. We have one person from our hotel, the cab driver, and three different men around the mall recommend La Parilla. Two other people said this was the best Mexican Restaurant in Cancun, and they had the best tacos around, so we gave it a try. It's far from the best. We weren't thrilled with our food. The staff was friendly, attentive, and accommodating when it came to the shrimp issue. We did appreciate the smiling and friendly faces with our service. To start, you get a small bag of chips and very little salsa. The chips came in a plastic bag, and the salsa was the size of those itty bitty ramekins that you put a side of ketchup in when getting fries...super small. The chips were a tad hard and didn't seem fresh, though editable. The coconut shrimp came out tough and with black specs fried throughout the shrimp. The shrimp also had several darks spots on them (not sure if you can see it in the pics, but they were definitely there). A black spot occurs when the shell on the shrimp begins turning black within hours or days after harvesting. This darkening is due to an enzyme process causing oxidation in the shrimp, just like in cut apples. It's not harmful or indicative of spoilage, but it's not attractive. The tiny black spots fried throughout, however, were from fried pieces that were coming off the fryer, leftover from previous foods cooked in that fryer, at least that's what the server and cook said. They apologized and took the appetizer away, and asked if we wanted something else. We were happy they took tough coconut shrimp back as they didn't look appetizing, and they were very tough to eat. We received complimentary margaritas because three separate gentlemen in the mall recommended La Parilla as we headed to the restaurant. They each gave us a business card coupon with their name on it for the complimentary margarita(s). The margaritas were good but small (can't expect much when they are free). It was a nice touch, though. My daughter ordered the super nachos, and she expected more than chips, meat, and nacho cheese sauce. The look on her face when they arrived was that of genuine dissatisfaction. There was no pico de gallo, onions, cilantro, jalapeno, beans, or anything else you would usually see on super nachos. It was a pile of three types of meat and nacho sauce smothering the chips. She had a few bites, but that was about it. She would have enjoyed them more with some veggies on top. I ordered chicken fajitas, and they were good but nothing spectacular. The fajitas came with beans and white rice, which the rice had no flavor. Not sure why they offer white rice and not some kind of Mexican rice, but it is what it is. It would have been nice to have some salsa; we asked, but that never came. Now for the tacos that everyone recommended. We've had better, way better! The taco arrived and looked as expected, but without any garnish's The rice was white rice with a side of beans. We ordered two types of tacos. First was the Mexican Pastor tacos; pork loin tacos marinated in red "adobo" sauce. The flavor was okay, but the tacos didn't come with cilantro and onions and no salsa. The second was the Gringas tacos which were flour tortillas, cheese, and pastor meat. Again they didn't come with any cilantro, onions, or salsa. We also assumed they would be more of a quesabirria style. So that was our fault for not asking. We had to ask twice for green salsa, cilantro, onions, and some limes, which never came, even after asking two waiters. My husband gave up waiting and ate the tacos plain and as is. People are definitely getting some kickback or benefit for referring La Parilla to people. The business cards being handed out for free margaritas with the person's name on them was a dead giveaway. During our time at La Parilla, there was a gentleman pushing pictures while you ate. He'd take your family picture, leave, come back later, and then wanted you to pay $25 for a photo and flimsy frame. The guy talked himself down to $5 because we kept saying no thank you. We bought it for $5; why not. I would not say they were the best tacos in Cancun by far better; they were edible. We had better ones around town; go away from the Cancun strip and into downtown. We didn't get any homemade tortillas, as others have mentioned in previous reviews. The La Parilla sits off the harbor, and you can see the boats and jet skis come and go. During the evening it is peaceful. The restaurant next door blares their radio which made it hard to hear, but the restaurant's vibe was fun and open. They have mariachi, and beautiful ladies dressed up walking around. One thing to watch out for is they add the tip automatically but don't tell you. We didn't notice until late, and so the staff received a double tip.

Food was really good and service was excellent. Food was also reasonably priced. Nice place to sit and enjoy the view of the water also.

Fun place to eat with your family and friends. My family and I have been coming here for years and the food is always delicious, the drinks too. If you just want to drink and have a little bite to share, get their Nachos Supreme.

We went to this local and tourist destination as part of a taco tour. The restaurant is decorated in traditional colorful Mexican decor. The tacos we had were very tasty with lots of different sauces, and a unique side of broth to dip our tacos in. Although I didn't have any other samples from the menu, there are many choices just like you would have at a Mexican restaurant in the US, however, unlike at most US Mexican restaurants they took us to the back of the restaurant to watch the preparation of traditional tortillas. At the end of the evening they brought out three types of tequila and we did a wonderful tequila tasting.

I will say, right off the bat, this place is loud if you're hear during peak meal time. While the mariachi band was a nice added touch, it only exacerbated the already loud dining experience. If you're looking for a quiet, romantic meal, this isn't the place for you. But if you're ok speaking up a bit throughout the meal, do not pass on this restaurant. I opted to try things that I wouldn't easily find at a restaurant, even in Los Angeles where I live. That meant I tried an aztec corn soup for my appetizer (it tasted like liquid corn bread and I say that as a compliment) and then for my main I tried a Molcajete Mixto. It was absolutely amazing. The best way I could explain it is a Mexican bibimbap. Each of the 3 types of meats were grilled perfectly, the special cheese was mild, but had a really great texture to it. The bits of cactus were cooked to perfection where they were soft, but with just the right amount of bite to it. I gobbled that dish up so quickly and considered asking if I could have another one. If I wasn't already stuffed I absolutely would have. It was probably the single best dish I had the entire week I was in Cancun. I've now made it my quest to find somewhere near me where I can get something even remotely comparable. I also appreciate that they had 'kid cocktails.' All 3 of my boys felt so adult sipping on their special mocktails. Our wait staff was a tad out of sorts, they would often say they were going to grab something for us (i.e. a high chair) and then completely dissapear. In the case of the high chair we just ended up finding one ourselves. But I think this issue stemmed from them just being so busy and slightly overstaffed. When they were with us, they were nothing short of fantastic. Honestly, if I ever return to Cancun, I will absolutely be returning here. It was that good. It makes getting the all inclusive package worthwhile. I will, however, avoid going on mariachi night.
