I stopped at Tacun because it had great reviews and it was directly across the street from my dentist and I wanted a quick lunch because I was not sure when I might eat again. I was on a taco binge. I had already eaten Arrachera tacos with bone marrow, deep fried shrimp tacos, deep fried fish tacos, al pastor tacos, beef tacos and cochinita pibil tacos in the last day and a half. Could Tacun come up with some version of a taco I had not already had elsewhere? They could indeed! It was "authentic Cancun hotel zone" deep fried chicken tacos time. I think I received six of them stuffed with a sufficient amount of chicken before being rolled up like taquitos and deep fried. They were heavily covered with lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream and topped with plenty of cotija cheese. The veggies were fresh and the tacos were crispy, light and delicious. This place is easy to miss if you aren't paying attention but boy are we glad we found it! Right off the side of the main road of the hotel zone, this is real authentic Mexican food and for a good price. I got a chicken taco and my husband got tacos al pastor. The chicken taco comes topped with shredded lettuce, a slice of tomato, and a slice of avocado. We loved both of our tacos! My husband also got a sope and he said it was one of the best he's ever had. They bring out a large dish of 3 different salsas and onions and cilantro and lime slices for your tacos which was awesome! They also give you complimentary chips. We also ordered a side of beans, rice, and guacamole and the guacamole was the best we had in our entire stay in Cancún! They are cash only so be sure to have enough cash on you. read more

We just got back from another trip to Cancun. This place is within easy walking distance from out resort. We came here instead of eating the all inclusive stuff. It's still as good as we remembered. We ate here 4 times out of 5 days this trip. Louiz was a wonderful server, even patient with me, while I tried to order in Spanish. He helped with that so much that I ordered in Spanish for my husband and I by the third day! They have breakfast too! I can't remember what it was called, but it was very good. I ordered the nachos with shrimp or steak a couple times too. It was so much food , that it left me full with a day's lunch leftover. If you're located near the hotel zone in Cancun, Tacun is a great restaurant to get some delicious Mexican food without paying too much. The costs are reasonable and there's something nice about eating at a small, mom and pop style restaurant that makes the experience more charming. Located on a main street, it's definitely a great alternative to the chain restaurants nearby. Cancun can get a little too touristy - You can go to Outback Steakhouse or Bubba Gump Shrimp only so many times before you think to yourself - This ain't Mexico! The staff at Tacun are extremely friendly, and they have festive hats that customers can wear for some epic picture taking. Who wouldn't want to wear a big velvety Mexican hat while downing tequila shots? I do, of course! Plus, they have tequila shots that equal the size of a double shot in America. Party time!!! The pina colada was pretty good, too. It wasn't the best pina colada I've ever had, but it was definitely right up there. For dinner, I ordered the chicken mole and fish ceviche. The chicken mole was a good balance of deep chocolate flavor, and the fish ceviche was fresh. The ceviche came with saltine crackers, which I thought tasted odd together. However, it was amazing with the freshly fried tortilla chips they provided. Additionally, the extra chile sauces and condiments they had on the table became the main highlight for me. Unfortunately, they only take cash, so you're pretty much out of luck if all you have is a credit card. However, there is a Banco (Bank) close by inside the small Mexican outlet. Just a fun fact, if you need to exchange money at the Bank, you need to bring your passport for verification. I ordered some shrimp tacos and beef tacos (originally I had ordered the chicken tacos but I told them about my onion/garlic intolerance and they suggested switching to the beef, which I appreciated). The food was just okay, nothing special. Definitely not worth a trip. I've had much better tacos in Mexico City. The portions are large though (the fillings were falling out my tacos as I ate) and they give a free basket of chips. read more

Great local gem! We went to this place on me and my friends birthday for lunch. We ordered guacamole for the table and it came with a variety of salsa. The salsa range from hot to super spicy, i like spicy but couldn't handle most of the sauces. We also ordered queso for the table, which was very fresh and good. The guys loved it though. I ordered the mushroom (hongos) quesadilla. It was amazing! The atmosphere was great, they had sombreros for us to wear while they sing happy birthday to us. Tacun was probably the most authentic restaurant we visited in Cancun! It's a really small spot (think limited seating and smaller tables) but the food was as good as it gets!! We had (and I'd strongly recommend) you get the: - Chips & Salsa with Guacamole - Avocado with Shrimp (what I call the "Avocado Ritz") - Taco Combo to share (comes with 4 meats: chicken, carne asada, chorizo, carnitas and also grilled napales, onions, pico de gallo, avocado slices) Yes, that's a lot of food for 2 people! And yes we walked a few miles back to our hotel (along the beach) to burn it all off haha. They blend up some killer margaritas here! Muy Buenas! I pwas browsing yelp and came across this gem! Outdoor seating very mexican street style decor, pinatas hanging up on the ceiling, traditional mex banners. It was pretty humid out but the large fan made it bearable and the drinks and food made it worth while. Ii had the coconut shrimp which were jumbo and full of flavor, all they were missing was a dipping sauce without it still great. The Queso fundido is filled with chorizo and just so great. Their mole enchiladas which are crispy were so delicious i recommend x 10. The green enchiladas I'd pass on too tomatillo-ey for me. Really convenient you have your own personal salsa bar at each table. This place gets busy and seating is minimal but I would definitely return. First stop for Mexican tacos in Cancún. Amazing. Super friendly place. We had so many sirlon tacos. So much better than the resort food. Venture out and look for this little gem. Walkable from the mall area if you're able to at least walk half a mile. The red buses do stop close by as well. This is what I'm talking about!! While we enjoy all of the nice restaurants on the peninsula, it's great to just have a $2 cerveza and some legit street tacos. PLUS great, friendly service - really nice wait staff! We came in for a little bite to eat and weren't disappointed. Small place with about 8 tables out front under a canopy - not sure if there were any tables inside but I don't think so. We ordered a plate of 3 asada tacos (ton of steak on them!) for $80 pesos and 2 fish tacos for I think $90 pesos. Tacos were all delicious! Served us some chips while we waited with a variety of salsas. If you're looking for very reasonably priced real Mexican food close to your hotel - you've found it! Good job, Tacun! read more

Cancun is beautiful and the resorts are first rate. You may think you don't need to even leave your hotel... but please do to experience this authentic and straight forward Mexican cuisine. Very safe and friendly. No frills and no view, and the price reflects that. Great deal. It is small and kind of tucked up on curb off the main drag. But don't miss it. Make sure you bring cash. Either American or pesos, but pesos are preferred. The tacos are perfection. Any one that you pick! I now replicate them at home (minus the authenticity part). The salsa trio, the abundance of fresh limes, the fresh chips, the shrimp tacos made with actual local shrimp, spicy beef tacos... burrito al pastor, beans, guacamole, rice.... all of it. 3 Tacos for 80 pesos! I think so!!!! Tacun is located right off the main road on Hotel Zone. It is quite a small establishment so make sure that you slow down as you can easily miss it. My partner and I ordered the Tacos and really enjoyed ourselves. Al pastor was really good as well as the beef. The chicken was our least favorite as it lacked the Mexican traditional pollo flair. We also ordered the guacamole which was alright. There were still huge chunks of avocado that were a little stringy... All of this was paired with 3 salsas that you can use varying in spicy levels. In addition to that, there was a free flow of limes, freshly chopped onions and cilantro. For the price, it's definitely a great deal so I highly recommend this place if you are on a budget. I recommend that you do not bring your own drinks as they do not allow it. It is only outdoor seating of about 10 tables so make sure you get there because it fills up really quickly!
