This place is so adorable and beautiful inside with bright pink colors The staff is incredibly kind, friendly, and makes great recommendations The food is absolutely delicious and it is very cool that they have small bites so you can try a bit of everything

    Corn & Zucchini Taco

Tldr: best zucchini taco I've tasted but other tacos not as impressive We stopped by for Sunday dinner and got a corn & zucchini taco, pescado taco (fish), and lengua taco (beef tongue). We meant to order the tortilla soup but I think there may have been a miscommunication when ordering and we ended up with something else that we think is sopa de chorizo. The zucchini taco had a really nice balance of flavors and all the elements in it were well done, which enhanced the flavor. I haven't seen zucchini tacos in other places but for now this place definitely takes the cake. On the other hand, the pescado and lengua taco were pretty ordinary and not as flavorful. The fried fish wasn't very crunch either so it lacked texture-wise as well. The sopa was seasoned well but the bready part underneath felt a little hard. Overall, I think we'd come back for the zucchini taco and maybe to try other items but we've probably had better tacos in other places. Definitely more of a fun, lively family-friendly vibe with younger kiddo customers!

I really enjoy going to Tacubaya on Fourth Street. The atmosphere is fun and relaxed. Bright colors, casual seating, and a lively vibe make it a great spot to grab a bite after walking around Berkeley. I've tried a few different items here, and the tacos stand out most for me: they're flavorful and well-made without feeling heavy. The service has always been friendly and the food comes out reasonably fast. I also like that there are vegetarian options and some unique items you don't see at every taqueria. I keep coming back because it hits the right balance of quality and casual Mexican fare. Definitely worth checking out if you want a solid, laid-back place for tacos and other classics in Berkeley.

First, I want to note that most of the items we ordered were seasonal, so they may not be available or reflect everyone's experience. We started with the spiced hot chocolate, which was delicioso, a perfect treat for cold weather. It normally comes with whipped cream, but we had it removed and opted for plant-based milk. They also offer a fully vegan version. Both the vegan and non-vegan hot chocolates were delicious. I ordered the pozole. It was okay, though I'll admit I'm very picky. My mom's pozole is always at the top of my list, but this one definitely satisfied the craving. We also tried the tostadas. One was vegan and very filling; my partner thought it was awesome. I can't comment on the mole since my friend ordered it and I forgot to ask for their thoughts. Overall, we loved the space; it's very colorful and vibrant. The service was great, and they use an "order first, then sit" system, but they still bring the food to your table. Tacubaya is also connected to Doña, another restaurant we really love, which was a nice bonus.

I had a sope with chorizo and potatoes. It was delicious and topped with lightly spicy pickled veg. It wasn't huge but made an excellent snack. Also the margarita with mezcal was great!

I came here today for lunch before going to Sur La Table to go shopping. My crunchy chicken taco had very dry chicken. I wish they put more salsa in it. The chicken was pretty bland and overly fried on the edges. My hubby enjoyed his Al Pastor sandwich and there was a lot of avocado in it. It's like a panini sandwich with tender pork. The beans and rice was good but nothing special. Service was good and it was very quick. This is a very busy location with lots of children. There's a balcony where a toddler was throwing things over and screaming the whole time. I'll try to come back on weekdays during work hours to avoid loud children throwing things. Otherwise, it's a nice ambiance.

We were immediately greeted by Ricardo who promptly took our order and gave us great recommendations for appetizers and entrees. I wanted to order everything and all the dishes coming out of the kitchen looked amazing and so fresh. The service was excellent and our food came out quickly. Ricardo even checked up on us to see how everything was. The restaurant (including the bathroom) was very clean. We sat at the bar and they have a great selection of beverages (alcoholic and nonalcoholic). We WILL come here again and I highly recommend this restaurant. It's a cute place very vibrant and has been open for 22 years! Can't wait to come back

    Asada Taco

Service was friendly, but food was just alright. I was hoping they would have birria tacos but they didn't have it on their menu, so I got asada tacos. I wished their lime was juicier and I feel like I would've enjoyed it more lol, but my mom said the chicken in her tacos were dry and she didn't enjoy it or even finish the rest of her taco. Honestly the ambiance was nice and welcoming, with lots of indoor seating (upstairs and ground floor), as well as outdoor seating. Would I come back? Hmm maybe.. if they add birria tacos to their menu haha but overall it was just okay.

    Papa con crema.
    Bellea M.

It has been a few years since I've been to Tacubaya. We ordered a couple of items we had ordered in the past so of course, we had expectations. Maybe my tastebuds have changed, but my all time favorite, papas con crema was not what I remembered. It was still tasty, but not the same. Maybe the recipe was changed to reflect current tastes of whoever is making it now. The quesadillas en nogada - interesting choice to use toasted pecans instead of walnuts. The pecans were a bit too strong, I prefer the flavour of walnuts. Color me old school! It was nice to visit again. Service was friendly and pleasant. The room was on the quiet side, 6:30ish on a Monday evening. Would like to come back for breakfast, see how that goes.

I really wanted to love Tacubaya because the space is beautiful -- the décor is so pretty with pink accents everywhere, and the overall vibe is very aesthetically pleasing. The food is plated nicely and looks great when it arrives, which I appreciated. You order and pay at the counter and then sit down to wait for your food, which is fine, but once it arrived I was underwhelmed. The dishes were just okay -- lacking flavor and pretty basic, especially considering the high prices. It felt way overpriced for what we got. Another downside was the bathroom. When I went in, there was no toilet paper, no seat covers, and trash on the floor. That really took away from the overall experience. Beautiful spot, but unfortunately, I don't think I'd go back for the food or value.

After many many door dash orders. Solid eats. Go tos: -enchiladas -lengua tacos Sat/Sun revelation today: -menudo, ooh so good and so many ingredients, fully loaded, def a meal, honeycomb tripe in every spoonful! Only available weekends Guacamole and chips are fine. Something about the guac - missing seasoning, lime, jalapeños - just flavor in general, prefer others like Cholita and Mesa Maguey Bonus: use better meat from Mary's and Niman.

The tortilla was raw, and they skimped on the guac. Extremely overpriced for what it is.

Hot and cold drinks together are the best of both worlds. It could be snowing outside and I'd still get a cold beverage. Love the clay mugs the hot chocolate came in. It kept hot while I focused on my marg. I thought I'd be able to body my plate because i was so hungry, but I ended up taking a sope home for leftovers, which was just as delicious the next day. Something really nice happened here. Apparently my margarita tasted too much like lime to who I assume is the owner, and he came by my table with another margarita on the house. That was thoughtful and something my friend and I really appreciated because who doesn't like a free drink? But seriously, it's the customer service behind serving something up to a standard that one feels confident in that really stood out. This looks like a popular spot. There were a couple people inside when I arrived, and several pick up orders. I love this area, or rather this small strip of restaurants and other stores along Solano Avenue.

I still feel that way, but recently I reserved a table for 4 and two things really stuck in my mind negatively after spending the evening there that wanted to alert the restaurant to. I worked in restaurants for 15 years so I know not every day is your best, and that getting things right is the first priority, not schmoozing, so this isn't about friendliness. The server was fine in terms of checking up on us, but didn't engage our request for recommendations for dinner or wine; no biggie, but when the check came she a) didn't mention that the tip was included, and my generous boyfriend (who wanted to snag the card and pay quickly without letting others get a chance) would have tipped another $80 had I not gotten up from the table and asked whether tip was included. On large checks the server should tell the group immediately not to worry about calculating the tip, and still act like she is earning it by taking good care of the table, refilling wine glasses when we ordered a bottle, etc. what really got me though was when we requested -- she didn't offer-- the remaining food on the table to go, she came with two piles of boxes and put them on the edge of the table. Again, my no-fuss boyfriend said he didn't mind packing the food up, but I think if you spend $450 on a dinner they could at least offer to neatly pack the food to go. It's a chore that I want to leave at home, plus it can be messy. It annoyed me a lot that the money we spent didn't seem to be appreciated and we had to basically clean up our table at the end. Not a good service night. Can you make it a policy to at least offer to pack the food?
