First of all, let me say I am prejudiced against soft tacos. And when I do eat them, I eat about ten, so for me to get full at this place requires one day's wages. That said, there are some sandwiches there called Tortas which are awesome. One will fill you up, and they taste amazing. We always get the Carnitas and Carne Asada and spit them. Plus Tacovore has some awesome salsas. I like the one from habanero especially! Came here for a happy hour a little while back for margaritas and Taco Tuesday. I believe I had the blackberry mint margarita, and it was delicious! Nice and strong, not too sweet. But a bit overpriced, even during happy hour. I had three tacos, one I forgot (I suppose it was unremarkable), the shrimp taco, which was my least favorite (not worth it, IMHO), and a veggie taco, which was AMAZING. Usually, I am an avid meat eater, but this was by far the winner! It had a combination of roasted veggies, a cream sauce, pickled veggies. OH. MY. WORD. Love this place. Fun atmosphere and great food. It can be crowded and loud so expect that. They have a parking lot but it fills up fast during popular times. Lunch here at 11 meant we avoided the crowd others mentioned. Three tacos: Carnitas (very spicy), Pescado (the breading was delicious...not that gummy beer batter...crisp and flavorful), and Old E (loved the smokey flavor of the ground beef). During our one-week trip to Eugene, my friend said that we had to check out Tacovore for dinner one night. She said it's one of her favorite places in town because the tacos are small and all the dishes are really reasonable. Being that I lived in San Diego for the past year--the home of Mexican food and street tacos--I had my doubts. How could this random taco spot in a small town serve up legit street tacos? But, I must say, I was proved wrong. Although you will not find the same fare here as you would on a street in Mexico, it sure satisfied my craving for tacos. I was delightfully surprised. Parking is limited and there are a few stalls in front of the restaurant. We went for dinner around 5:30 p.m. one a weekday and we were so fortunate as to get one of the spots. The menu had a good selection to choose from and I was a little overwhelmed because I'm indecisive. But, there's something for everyone -- whatever you're craving, Tacovore is sure to have it. I now can't wait for my next trip to Tacovore. Here's what my friend and I ordered: "Pescado": This taco featured crispy line-caught Pacific cod with cabbage, radish, cilantro, onions and homemade crema. I love fish and my friend told me that this taco was really light and flavorful. It definitely didn't disappoint. I had high expectations for the fish taco, having lived in San Diego for the past year. I was pleased with Tacovore's fish taco, though, and didn't regret my decision in the least. I chose to ignore all the other ingredients in the taco--I normally detest onions--but the medley actually worked well as a whole. The fish did indeed taste fresh and it was light, and I loved the flavor of the homemade crema. I enjoyed this taco more than the "Chorizo" one that I ordered--though both of them were delicious--and I would recommend this choice to anyone visiting Tacovore for the first time. "Chorizo": You could either get tempeh or pork and this taco came with avocado, radish, cilantro and pico de gallo. Since this chorizo option was one of the specials of the day, I figured I would try it, since I didn't know when it would be available again. I chose pork--I had to ask the guy behind the register what tempeh was--and the meat was juicy and flavorful. I also asked about the spiciness level of this dish, and he reassured me that it wasn't that hot. I can't handle high heat, so I figured I was safe. This taco certainly sported a kick and there was a slight fire in my mouth when I was done, but I don't regret ordering it. It was good to try and I loved the flavor of the pork. I just had to finish off my meal with some ice cream later on at Red Wagon Creamery to douse the flames from the heat. "Mushroom": This mushroom taco featured crispy cremini mushrooms with ginger, lime, chives, mint and Serrano chiles. My friend had ordered this taco before and knew that it was really good. Though mushrooms are normally not my favorite, I would have made an exception for this taco ... simply because the mushrooms are deep fried. My friend really loved the taste and texture of this taco. The mushrooms were soft on the inside and the exterior was perfectly battered. I would love to actually order this taco for myself one day. "Herbivore": This was the other taco my friend ordered. It featured roasted butternut squash, cilantro, Brussels sprouts, pickled onions and queso cotija. I'm not the hugest fan of butternut squash so this wasn't exactly up my alley, but my friend said it was delicious and she was glad she tried it (this was also one of the specials on the menu for the day). "Old E": This taco included seasoned ground grass fed Oregon beef with Tillamook cheddar cheese, shredded iceberg lettuce and housemade crema in a hard taco shell. I definitely contemplated ordering this taco because of the grass fed beef and I love Tillamook cheese. However, since this taco is a menu staple, I figured I could try it some other time. I anticipate getting this selection during my next visit. "Carnitas": This taco featured smoked, crispy pork with orange, Serrano chiles, cilantro, onions and housemade crema. If I did not opt for the featured chorizo taco, this is probably the one I would have gotten. I love carnitas--thanks to Chipotle--so I'm sure I would love this version from Tacovore. I can't wait to taste the crispy pork bits, combined with the chiles and cilantro. I just hope this taco isn't too spicy for my liking. read more

Still searching for the BEST local sourced, organic and well run Mexican restaurant. This place doesn't cut it. We went on a Friday about 5 p.m. They have ONE cash register....you better know what you want because after you have waited in that line (and it can be out the door by 5:30) if you want to order something else because your two tacos weren't in the least bit filling enough or you need a second beer....you will be S.O.L ! You place your beer order when you place your food order and depending on the mood and drive of the two bartenders....you MIGHT get your beers BEFORE you get your food, or not like in our case. Guess they were too busy yuck'in it up w/ the patrons at the bar to be bothered. That is fucking annoying!!!! When we got our food delivered to our table, the one taco was not the one my partner ordered. The gal who delivered our food was kind enough to let me pay her for another taco because the LINE was ungodly. I wanted the special "softshell crab" taco. She took my money and came back w/ a fish taco and change. I asked her what happened to the crab taco and she said they ran out. so this is what I get. UGH! We are never going back there again! Honestly I would rather go to El Super Taco, or even Turtles for good tacos. I found the tacos at Tacovore overpriced, and besides the carnita's tacos, rather bland or not at all what I was expecting. I had followed the progress of Tacovore since they have opened with a lot of excitement and expectations for this new little Whit addition, and sadly enough not someplace I'll be going back to, anytime soon. The fish taco was bland and really not much to it, a couple of soggy pieces of fried fish and you get to slather it with whatever couple of sauce options are out on the counter. The calamari taco was not a fried calamari (which is what I associate with when I hear calamari) it was a rubbery floppy thing sadly gazing up at you from the corn tortilla it sat on. The drinks I have to say were pretty good, but for the price and the sad tacos, not someplace i'll go for imbibing. read more

Tacovore! while I've never sat "in" and enjoyed my food on site... I've had a sack full of 8 different tacos on the go. So I can't speak to what the service or the establishment is like. I can definitely offer my $.02 on the tacos though. I don't even remember the names of all the tacos I had in my bag of yumminess.... but they were all pretty amazing. I even like the one that had mandarin orange slices in it. That's a first. Probably my favorite was the one that had a whole bunch of pork in it, followed very closely by the fish taco. I had a great experience here and I was nervous eating here after all of the mixed reviews I have read. I would probably give them 4 in a half to 5 on taco's and drinks, and 3 stars on the price. I was told the prices were high and they were right, but my carnitas, and carne asada taco's were really good flavor and a flavor that I have never had them. The citric fruit on the carnitas really sets it off. My guava vodka drink had a great flavor and it tasted fresh. I liked the chips and salsa as well. No complaints from this girl! I will probably go back but not as a regular because of the prices. I also see people writing that they have good ceviche and I wouldn't mind trying it. Well I finally got to return to try the ceviche, and while it was good it wasn't the best I have ever had. I love the ceviche I had in Mexico. There was no comparison at all as far as flavor. Simple, tasty tacos! I always get the same thing: 2-3 tofu tacos and a strawberry margarita. I sometimes go during happy hour as they usually have good deals going on. The line is usually out the door around dinner time, the weekend, and on sunny days, but if you don't mind waiting it's worth it. I really, really dislike their bathrooms, it always reeks of pee and is dirty, so that's why I give a 4 star instead of 5. read more

Oh Tacovore, Te Quiero Mucho! Sure I'm a little late to the game here, but let me elaborate on previous reviews. This place is tits! (Yup, I just said that) I've been here probably 5 times in the last month. You don't come here for tacos that are south of the border. It's not that authentic Mexican food you may be craving. This is creative, Americanized food that I thoroughly enjoy. When you have arugula and carrots on your taco, you know you're not getting anything too authentico mi amigos. That being said, I come here strictly for tacos and margaritas. I'll usually order 2 pollo, 2 carne asada, and 2 pescado, (Chicken, steak, fish) along with 2-3 margaritas. They have indoor and outdoor seating which is amazing on these warm summer evenings. Nothing better than 75 degrees at 9pm with a few tacos and margs on deck. I haven't had one bad experience with the staff. Each person, every time has been professional and upbeat. They're great at making sure the food and drinks are flowing. Tacovore: Is it overrated? Yes. Is it good? Yes. People rant and rave about this place, and I think it's just because of the trendy-decor and cool location in the artsy Whitaker District. If you go here looking for 'authentic' Mexican or even California-style Mexican you will be very disappointed. If you go here for creative, Pacific NorthWest styled latin food, you will enjoy it. The tacos are pricey for the size, but have always been hot and fresh and popular with my friends. I personally stick to the carne asada torta, which comes on a soft doughy roll with thick and flavorful re-fried black beans and plenty of spiced beef. The margaritas are very popular, and they typically have at least one seasonal variety available in addition to classics like Lime and Jalapeno. The salsas and sauces are plentiful, and most are pretty good. Go here for a fun night with a group, and especially if you want to show off the local hipster spot to out of town guests! read more

I loved their veggie tacos so much that I went back twice during our 3-day visit to Eugene. Yes, a faux pas for not trying a different restaurant but it was so good. We sat belly-up at the bar one night and in the bar area the next night. The bartender was a little unfriendly and gave an attitude to us initially but later was chill. The server on the second night brought out the wrong food but then acknowledged the error and brought out the right item. They have a delicious and varied salsa bar!! I came here during happy hour and got the agua margarita, mushroom, mole and carnitas tacos. The margarita was delicious! There was a guava flavor, which I liked. The tacos were okay. I wish the tortillas had a bit more char and texture to them because they looked a little too anemic and too smooth. I was expecting more of a street taco. The mushroom taco was good except that I would have liked for the mushrooms to not have been fried. I can't remember what the mole verde taco tasted like but carnitas was good. There was a lot of meat. I think it could have been better with a simple topping like cilantro and onions. The back patio area was nice, too. After driving around downtown, we decided to go to Tacovore for lunch. We arrived at 11:30 to find their front door wide open and music blaring from inside. "Aha, they're open," we thought. We walked in and up to the front counter, where a masked employee (masked because of COVID precautions) started mumbling something at us. Because of her mask and the head-splitting music, we couldn't understand what she was trying to tell us. After a few moments, we deciphered her message as "We don't open until 12:00." So...why the inviting open door? Don't tell me it's to "air out" the place; the entire east wall of the building is basically one giant window. In retrospect, maybe we should have checked the website beforehand to find out the hours of operation. But we had stopped by on a whim. That won't happen again. Everything here is super good and a bit addictive. I love the Tequila toddies & the Ginger Paloma cocktails. They have a tequila bar with many Varieties of tequila. All the drinks are made with juices squeezed daily. The food - my Favorite is when the seafood Special is the Fried Oyster Taco, but the regular Carnitas and Carne Asada tacos are really different from "regular" tacos and are very good. They make a braised Indian spiced lamb taco occasionally that is great. Prices are from $4 for a bowl of chili to $5 for The specialty tacos. They do vegan, vegetarian and gluten free using tempeh and other items. Locally sourced natural meats I think and good quality veggies etc. The owner was one of the partners who originally opened Laughing Planet. Similar philosophy for this restaurant. Two tacos are usually enough for me. I've been here a lot and it's never disappointed. They have a coffee shop out front, connected to the restaurant and make fantastic organic Coffee with Choices of dairy and alternatives. They also make an awesome Irish Coffee & the Hot Toddies. Serving pastries from Noisette bakery & gluten free items from "elegant elephant baking company". It is great on cold winter mornings with the sun shining through the glass. Very disappointed with my experience at Tacovore. I stopped by because I'm in town for buisness travel and heard amazing reviews about this place and heard they had the best tacos in town. I arrived at this restaurant expecting social distancing and mask requirements to be enforced; I was sadden to witness the staff trying to enforce COVID 19 precautions but it appeared as if other customers were not willing to comply.
