These tacos are five star. Period. My go-to order is 2 barbacoa, 2 al pastor, and 2 asada with extra limes and green salsas (all tacos come with cilantro and onion). The restaurant isn't pretty, but who cares when you're eating the best tacos? Sunday is our taco day and Tacos Selene never disappoints on Sunday! Grateful for this gem in Aurora. They have burritos, sopes and tortas, too. Burritos are solid. Smaller than what you're used to at Chipotle, but authentic Mexican deliciousness. The sopes are so good! The old adage: never judge a book by its cover, def comes into play when you talk about Tacos Selene! I've been driving by it for several years now without even batting an eye. Turns out this under-appreciated gem hidden in a small strip mall off 6th Avenue and Chambers Road in Aurora serves up some killer tacos! The inside is about as underwhelming as the outside. Def a no frills deal going on here. It could use some updating, but appearances aren't everything! We headed to the register to browse the menu and make our selections. The tacos range in cost from a mere $1.50 to $2. Wow! Talk about a great deal. They also serve up quesadillas, sopes, burritos, and tortas. The staff was very friendly too! My classmate and I both opted for four tacos each: alpastor, pollo, barbacoa, and adoboa. Yum! They're served up in traditional street taco form and then there is a small salsa bar with various topping options. I gladly added some spicy pico, pickled onions, and verde to my taco plate. By the ratings, I already knew Tacos Selene was going to be great, but I didn't know they would become my favorite taco joint. This restaurant is certainly a hidden gem located right off of 6th in Aurora. I didn't think much of the place driving up to it, but seriously don't let outside appearances deter you. I ordered four carne asada tacos, which is one order, for $6. The tacos came out in 2 minutes. Wow. They were double tortilla'd and came with onions and cilantro. The first bite was heavenly. No fancy sauces or exotic meats; it was so basic yet so delicious. The beef was so well cooked and seasoned. I could've eaten 16 tacos had I not been in a rush. Ordered take out from here a week back. Food ordered: Pollo chicken Burritos, Pollo chicken quasedilla, Pollo chicken tacos and Pollo chicken sopes Best burrito that we ever had. Chicken was tender and juicy, rice was flavourful and so were the other ingredients. Tacos were also really good. Tad Spicy, lemony with the juicy tender meat made it all the more delicious Qausedilla: Was ok, did not stand out. Just normal, nothing to brag about. But we liked it. Sopes: it was a bit bland to taste, but overall good. Forgot to take pictures because overall the food was amazing, just dived into it. I'd heard recommendations of this place beforehand, but my husband was the one who pushed to go-- he happened to bike by this place and was compelled to stop and look up what could be the source of such an "exquisite and enticing aroma". He sent the link to me and soon after we checked it out! This is 100% your authentic taco joint, the kind I didn't know I missed until I left Houston. Simple corn tortillas topped with a your meat of choice (lengua, barbacoa, pastor, etc.), fresh onions, cilantro and lime wedges. The flavor is all there, but the sauces (of which there are around 10) are also incredibly good. You let them know when you order what sauces you want and they'll bring out squeeze bottles of them to your table. You definitely can't have just one, but there's no reason to limit yourself. This random place tucked into a little strip mall has some legit tacos! Yelp you did not disappoint me on this one! So here I am driving across country half starved and half broke. What better thing to eat than tacos? This place is what I'd consider typical of a taco place. Bright decor, TV blaring soap operas in the background (futball on the other side), and not the cleanest place but good enough to get the job done. There was a line... first good sign. You wait in line, you order and you either get it to stay or go. I decided, at first, to stay. I got a water and sat down. I ended up getting my food to go because I was being harassed by a customer. (drunken idiot who assumed I didn't understand any Spanish. I wish I didn't after some of the things he said to me). I got my food and then set out to the salsa/hot sauce area. There is a good selection from mild to blow your nose off. I ordered 2 al pastor (marinaded pork) tacos, 1 carne asada (beef steak) taco, and 1 lengua (tongue) taco. I also got 1 al pastor sope. The asada was slightly better than standard although tender enough to enjoy. The lengua, which normally I LOVE, was too tough and chewy and I had to throw it away. (which is a shame because it cost extra). However the al pastor 100% made up for all of it. OMG folks it was delicious. Honestly no extra salsa was needed it was that flavorful. Between the tacos and the sope I think the sope won for sure. (I wish I had just gotten 2 of those). Speaking of... it's a lot of food, I WAY over ordered. Oh and the salsas were okay. The pico was my favorite. The dark red salsa had a weird taste, too much like raw re-hydrated chili peppers. The green ones were flavorless. The off red colored one will set your mouth/stomach on fire... seriously. All in all I enjoyed my tacos and If I could, I'd go back. For sure get the Al Pastor and try a sope, you won't regret it. I finally got around to visiting and I can see why this place is so highly rated. I tried the barbacoa and al pastor (pork and pineapple) tacos. Holy moly, these tacos are LEGIT. They were rich and juicy and even though they were covered with a copious amount of cilantro that frankly scared me a little, I scarfed them right down. And you can't beat the price at $1.50 each. I would not say they were the very best tacos I have enjoyed (contrary to Westword), but they were mighty fine and definitely hit the spot. I liked that this place had a reasonable, if not overly abundant, amount of seating. The salsa bar had some solid selections. A serviceable tomatillo, a decent pico, a smoky rojo, and some really spicy picked onions with diced habaneros could be found among the various selections. I think that any taco place that does not have a salsa bar is really missing the boat. My four tacos and a soda came to seven dollars and change. I went with two al pastor and two adobada. The al pastor had decent flavor. The pineapple was a bit chunky, but was acceptable. The adobada were quite good. The tacos were visually appealing, and well-prepared with the preferred double tortilla. This made them rather easy to eat, despite my tendency to over-salsa. We went to Tacos Selene after running some errands. That afternoon was on Saturday December 21st 2013. Time was about 14:30hrs ish. This establishment offer Tacos, Burritos, Tortas, Sopes, Quesadilla and Menudo (Saturdays/Sundays). We ordered at the counter and pay what we ordered. From the Menu I ordered these items : * Tacos Lengua ($1.50) * Tacos Tripa ($1.50) * Tacos Barbacoa - Shredded Beef ($1.50) While Hubs ordered these items : * 3 Tacos Beef Asada ($1.50 each) - ($4.50) * Beef Asada Burrito ($6.00) * A Bottle of Mexican Cola Total cost of our lunch with tax was $18.21. While waiting for our order to be ready, we get the different kind of Salsas from the Salsa bar located on the left wing, next to the Kitchen entrance. YES, this establishment is indeed a hole in the wall, perhaps with like about 12 to 15 seating at one go. While we were there, many more patrons, had their orders to go, or decide dining in too. I like the Tripa Taco the BEST coz its was crunchy. 2nd best item was the Barbacoa Taco and the 3rd was the Lengua Taco. I also like the salsa we opt for that afternoon. Hubs also like his order, and rate this establishment between 3.5 to 4 stars. Prior to moving to Denver, I wasn't the biggest fan of Mexican cuisine. I'd just have a lot of other preferences on my list before it came down to Mexican. A friend of mine recommended this place to me and I'll admit I was pretty reluctant. 8 tacos later, this place single-handedly converted me into a taco fanatic. Walking into the spot, I immediately was drawn to the vibe. It isn't polished to perfection, you might find a spot that could use a little cleaning here and there. But they focus on the product, which is what matters the most. It's about personality, y'know? The folks here that serve are also extremely friendly too. Each time I go, I get a minimum of 8 tacos. I have a pretty abnormal appetite-- most folks will be happy with 6 but my goodness I can leave extremely happy without breaking the bank here. And that's what gets me. I'm extremely satisfied and full with about ~$15 worth of food. Lest we forget the horchata that comes with my order. The tripe tacos are the home-run of this establishment. Crispy, chewy, and flavorful. I also get the barbacoa. Chipotle wishes their barbacoa was this good instead of being a salty, goopy mess.
