On one of my travels to somewhere, I don't remember exactly where, I was recommended to try this place by someone who had lived here and really really liked it. It may be the best Mexican food in town, after all there aren't many choices in Tehachapi. I will say this they are very popular. I came in in the workmen were just chowing down on these big fat burritos. I ordered one of the burritos and a taco. I wanted to try the chili verde burrito, and of course and asada taco as a calibration for the quality of the food here. And when you're outside and you look at their logo and sign hanging up on the wall it's not very big, but you do notice that all the letters have Flames coming out of the top. I know why that is. Their Salsas are all a touch on the hot side I tried the mild ones and they were hot I was not brave enough to try the hot hot. Anyway the Chile Verde was nice but it was odd for me because it was shredded pork as opposed to chunks of pork that you normally see. It did have a nice flavor but I would like to have a little more kick in my green sauce. The asada Taco was good nothing to Rave about just good. My husband will pull out all the stops to get a burrito here- they have the usuals- polla, carne asada, etc., but also tongue and cabeza. They started taking credit cards in the past few years. It's busiest during lunch during the school year when the students are grabbing a bite- otherwise, it's pretty easy to grab a table. The remodel has done them well-- it's cleaner, roomier, and great for a lunch or a quick dinner. read more

Carne asada tacos were good. Rice/beans were good. Most places have complimentary chips and salsa, not here they charge. 1.85 for a medium soda NO REFILLS!?! Really?? You're gonna charge me 1.85 for a medium fountain soda and charge me for a refill? That's just nonsense . Just say no to The Salsa Nazi. It is rude to demand that your customers who pay quite a bit for a burrito that is rolled incorrectly --- so that you get all beans in one bite, all rice in another, all cheese in another --- cannot get but a small, itty-bitty cup of salsa for it. Yes, their salsa previously gave me reflux, so I should be thankful that the lady limits my salsa use, but I'm on Prilosec now, so I was ready to salsa... yet I was denied. Went here and it wasn't busy but the people at the counter acted annoyed when I asked a question about an item on the menu. They were very rude and the food was nothing special. In fact, I think they are over priced for what you get. The ingredients were low quality as well. Not authentic Mexican cuisine. We will not be going back ever again. read more

We're new to Tehachapi from San Diego. I guess I've been spoiled because I was not impressed by the service or the food. My carne asada burrito had no cheese, no guacamole and very little carne; it was mostly rice and beans which were too spicy for my taste. For a pricey taco shop their food is nothing special. Visited on Saturday - place was very busy. we had visited before and didn't have the best experience, but decided to give it another try. Same poor quality food - this time they 'lost our order' after many people who ordered after us received their food - we asked about our order. They stated the 'other people' at our table got our order. This would be my son and his wife. NOPE - sorry they didn't get our food - or our CHIPS AND GUACAMOLE that we overpaid for to hold us over since we knew the wait time would be long. The food here is okay. Nothing to be impressed with, but okay (for the price you pay). That's my main problem with it really. The food is way overpriced for the quality. The service is pretty mediocre especially since you're only allowed 1 side of salsa for a burrito and 1/2 a side for a taco. I went to Taco Samich years ago and they forgot to have my order ready for a large party. Then served 5 people before even starting my order. So recently I decided to give them another chance and found a rubber band from the cilantro in my taco. Disgusting! They do not seem very clean and the food was greasy. The food is really good, authentic, and fresh. The salsas are all really spicy, which can be a problem for some people. I like spicy food, but some of my friends just can't eat here. The funny thing is that the owner is stingy with the salsa. I once ordered a basket of chips and they did NOT come with salsa. I went back to the counter to ask for a cup so I could get some, and she told me that if I wanted chips AND salsa, it would be $2 more.
