The interior was warm and inviting, and made for a fun environment to dine in. We ordered the birria ramen and the Texas ACP. I went to Tacos Oaxaca on National Taco Day, which landed on a Tuesday, and somehow this was my first time trying it despite hearing about it forever. I was expecting a typical indoor sit down spot. Instead, you order inside, but there are only a few bar-style tables indoors and no real seating. Most of the seating is outside on the patio, maybe four or five tables total. It was a little chilly that day, but nothing we couldn't tolerate. Honestly, if I had dressed smarter, meaning not shorts, a t-shirt, and slippahs (or chanclas in this case), which honestly would've fit the vibe here, I would have been completely fine. The food was excellent. I didn't take any photos because I immediately dug in. Everyone ordered tacos with all the usual fixings, and even the kids were happy, which is always a good sign. The kids went with beef tacos, and my wife and I both ordered tacos al pastor. They were flavorful, well cooked, and easily the highlight of the meal. Portion-wise, I'd recommend at least three tacos. Four was perfect for me, and five had me completely stuffed. The reason I'm landing at four stars instead of five comes down to two things. Most of the seating being outdoors limits this place on colder or rainy days, and there was no beer available, which felt like a missed opportunity for a taco spot. I think they may have wine or sangria, but tacos without a cold beer just feels wrong. Overall, Tacos Oaxaca absolutely lives up to the hype. This restaurant is FIRE! (Hard stop) It's giving amazing taco truck, in dine-in restaurant form and I love that for me. The food and service were great, and they probably need more staff as the locals have spoken-- they love it and are continually streaming in! I tried the beef tacos, queso fundido (the star) , and Guac. All were tasty and should be noted by me forgetting to get a photo before devouring. My boyfriend and I stopped in for dinner at this restaurant yesterday around 5:30. It was busy, but not packed. A hostess greeted us and sat us at a small booth. A party of 4 and another party of 6 were seated after us. Both of those tables were served chips and salsas along with their drink orders before we were acknowledged. We sat for about 12 minutes before our waiter stopped by our table. He asked us what we wanted to drink, and we each ordered a margarita. Then he proceeded to take a half eaten bowl of chips and salsa from an empty table and put them on ours!! What??!! My boyfriend and I were shocked. I asked him to please bring us fresh chips and salsas because that was unacceptable. He went into the back for a brief moment, returning with what looked like, the exact same half eaten chips and salsas. He placed them on our table and walked away. There are not many servers. We eat here alot and we have had to wait longer sometimes but our food always comes out and fresh. They do own a second location in fuquay. Margaritas are ON POINT. The food is amazing I'm a routine person I typically order the same thing but nit here I order something different every time and it is really good. To avoid long wait times and "stone cold food" which I highly doubt dont come during the busy hour. You can order online food and alcohol as well. We do many times. The food trailer is owned by them as well here in Lillington also amazing food if you don't want to wait. I'm a huge foodie and for me to post a review on here is serious lol. We, like several others, stopped after checking out raven rock (had our dog with us as well) and are so glad we did. Note, the phone number on Yelp was to their second location downtown on main Street, so as you can tell we accidentally called and ordered from the wrong location. I got 4 Tacos (a variety) and my husband got the Tlayuda and honestly, I'd drive the hour drive to go back and eat it again. I was visiting Lillington to go hiking at Raven Rock and found this hidden gem. When I looked this place up, my sole purpose was to try a Tlayuda, a famous street food in Oaxaca City in Mexico. Think a massive tostada... Tacos Oaxaca is an unassuming building with vintage decor but it's what they offer that makes them special. They offer a variety of Mexican classics like street tacos, tortas, huaraches, sopes, quesadillas, etc. Our order was a Tlayuda with chorizo, and 4 street tacos: asada, lengua, chicharron, and al pastor. The Tlayuda was a hit! Crunchy shell, savory meat, lots of cheese(fine cotija+shredded mozzarella?), fresh avocado and lettuce. Added their housemade salsas and it was bomb! This a small family-owned business that makes fantastic authentic Oaxaca-style food. It is not really a restaurant, but a little trailer converted into a kitchen with a walk-up counter and tables outside. Not to be confused with a sit-down restaurant with a similar name in Lillilington. I think the food is reasonably priced. My personal favorite is tlayuda, which is a regional favorite in Oaxaca and not something you see around often. Straight forward simple, regionally authentic food. Great service. You order at the counter and when your order is ready they hand it to you out the side window. The complaints/reviews about chips and salsa, liquor, or servers are not talking about this place. There are none of those here. It is just food and a half-dozen outdoor tables that you bus yourself. The name of this restaurant; Oaxaca, is where my grandmother is from, so they basically have the same cooking style I do. I have tried almost everything on the menu and it is all good. If you like this place, but can't make it during lunch or early dinner hours don't worry, they have opened an actual restaurant in Lillington, by the IGA store and they stay open later in the evening.
