I don't care how old the place is nor for how many years an employee has been working there. But there is no excuse to not listen nor be rude to a customer. Especially when your property is filthy dirty your air-conditioning doesn't work and no customers are even inside!! This is a local based business meaning it survives off the locals. And you need all the local support you can get. But with the reviews coming in negative. And posts like this. It sure is not going to help you out. But I would appreciate is the ownership getting in touch with me and issuing an apology on how this concerning the employee was that we have experienced this issue three times hence why we don't come there anymore. This is my favorite secret hole in the wall place. The fact that I'm sharing it is special. I am a huge fan of the Pastor. Which is basically Bbq pork. I get it every time. The rest of the family get anything from Veggie burrito to tacos, quesadillas and shrimp cocktails. I should probably venture into some of the other great items but I guess I'm a creature of habit when it comes to this spot. I LOVE the Pastor. I think the flavor is perfect. Its not too greasy and the meat is perfect. But what really sets this place apart for me, is their condiments. Most Mexican places have the jalapeños and carrots but this place makes them with potatoes and cauliflower too. Hmmmmmmm. I love them. So perfect with my food. I don't write food reviews after my first visit unless there's a major issue, that being said-this was my first dining experience. A friend raved about the food so I gave it a shot. My issue (concern): When placing my order (carnitas burrito w/ everything and a large horchata) I looked back into the open kitchen. I saw one employee on his phone, sitting on a counter and another sitting down, talking to the other employee. Between them was a whole, large, raw chicken...did I mention the chicken was raw? A few minutes pass as we loaded up bags of salsa to go before I ask my friend if he could see what was going on back in the kitchen. He didn't. Until I pointed out the unattended raw protein chillin on the cutting board. Three stars is generous in my opinion given this serious health concerning/ food preparation issue. Good Mexican food and fast friendly service. They have all the usual suspects on the menu and they have DELICIOUS flan also. They have good horchata, jamaica, and usually they have agua de piña or melon (pineapple water or melon water) and those are always very good. They also have the usual fountain drinks AND they have the sodas in the glass bottles from Mexico (Pepsi, Coke, 7up, etc.). I like their tacos, sopes, quesadillas, and the burrito mojado is very good also. They give you chips with every order and you can call in advance to order. I have noticed they sell seafood dishes but I have never tried any of those. They aren't doing anything that hasn't already been done ( come on it's Mexican food in Southern California) but this is a nice place with good food and good service. :) read more

Best little Mexican food place in Mission Hills area. Been coming here since 2008. Friendly folks running the place and delicious food. I have gone through the menu almost twice now and everything there is good. Good pricing. Yummy sea food (mariscos) too! Open early enough for us early risers to have a 10 AM lunch! Parking can be a little tight, but it is worth the walk if you need to. Sometimes not open at the posted time on weekends for breakfast, which is a little annoying if one is hungry at that hour, but are generally open long hours during the day. Let's start off with the good news: service was good and so was the water. Sadly, the torta wasn't (I wish it was the other way around). So bite into the Torta...and look inside. It looked more like breaded steak fat. It was white inside the breading. Kept going and more of the same. Best chile relleno I've ever had in a restaurant. Just need to lead with that. I LOVE chile relleno, pretty much get one at every Mexican restaurant I try, and I've never found one as good as homemade, but this one was. It's all about the proportions of pepper, cheese, batter, and this place hits it spot on. Delicious. Aside from the chile relleno, the tacos were good too. They had a wide array of meat choices, and everything was tasty. I wasn't impressed with the salsa bar, though. There were only three options when I was there, and I didn't think any had great flavor. Overall, I thought this place was pretty good. Service was a little slow, but that just meant they were cooking everything fresh. Seating was a bit limited, but they're kind of a hole in the wall type of place, so I doubt they're ever hopping to the point that you wouldn't be able to sit. Okay..sooo disappointed..I've been here and LOVED the ceviche de camaron. Well not anymore! I can't believe they compromised their quality on the shrimp. Before, the shrimp were cut in pieces. Now the shrimp are totally minced. There are no whole pieces of shrimp. Ceviche did not have it's lime and great seasoning taste it did before. It tasted watered down and day or 2 old refrigerated. I came here for the great taste. Also in the menu picture, it shows slivers of avocado on top. There was none and I asked her about avocado and she said th ey charge extra for avocado. I said, oh the picture shows the tostada with avocado. I said okay. She said but I'll give you some and gave me half an avocado for our 4 tostadas. Well i won't come back.
