The best Mexican in TOWN!!!! Amazing cook to order hot fresh food with plenty of flavor!!

Best Mexican in town!! Amazing cook to order fresh cook to order food!! I love the California burrito with steak protein!!

    Ian E.

I'm telling you, for a Jacksonville Mexican food truck, their tacos are on point! I ordered just about every selection of meat they serve: Carne Asada (steak), carnitas (pulled pork), cabeza (cow head), tripas (intestines), and al pastor (marinade pork). All tacos are served with onions and cilantro, and lime on the side. I asked for extra cilantro just because I love the extra fresh taste. As a Southern California native, I think it's safe for me to say that I know authentic, real, legit, bomb Mexican food; so I am ALWAYS skeptical about the Mexican food in Jax. So I ordered two different meat tacos as a sample. My favorite has always been cabeza, which is fatty meat from the cows' head. Might sound strange, but cooked and flavored right, the taste is amazing. It's tender and a bit fatty... just try it! SQUEEZE LIME AND ADD SAUCE TO YOUR TACOS. I was in love with the sampled tacos, I ordered more and elotes, which is corn on a cob, covered in mayo, cheese, lime juice, and chili powder. In comparison to other Mexican trucks or joints in Jax, this place gets my 5 stars. Great flavor and quality, for reasonable prices in Jax. Only problem is the location and no drinks available, like my favorite: Horchata. But the food truck is sitting in a liquor store parking lot. I'll definitely be back for other things on the menu. Other Mexican restaurants claim they're authentic, but I disagree. Majority of the places here lack the authenticity to cater to the ones not so familiar with the real thing. I appreciate La Perla for their business, and hopefully this helps others, especially people from CA that miss all the hole in the wall joints, Taco shops, food trucks, food stands, etc.

I was in Jacksonville for a wedding and I had a craving for tacos. This was the spot that I chose and it didn't disappoint. The Elote could've used more love but the tacos were pretty damn good. Any spot where you see construction workers eating there is a hidden gem. This is a very random food truck outside of a corner store so there is no dining in, only to go. I got the cow tongue and steak tacos. The steak was just ok but the cow tongue was perfect. They make the tacos traditionally, two tortillas, protein, onions and cilantro. I would definitely recommend.

    New location!

Well..I found their new location. They are now located at 5532 Ricker Rd right off 103rd St. Food is just as awesome and the portions are still huge! You need to try it for yourself. I still highly recommend La Perla.

I ended up ordering the turkey dinner which comes with two sides and a piece of bread. I went with the baked beans and mac & cheese. I was pleasantly surprised how tastey the food was. The turkey was moist and perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of smokeiness. The sides were pretty good as well. Beans weren't too sweet and mac & cheese weren't dry or too cheesy. Overall the flavors were on point and made me forget about my corn nuggets disappointment real quickly. The service was quick but they weren't very personable. They arrived at my office at 11:30 am but within an hour they were already out of the mac and cheese. The price was a tad high but luckily my company paid for 1/2 of it.

First yes there's a TreeMendous BBQ restaurant by the same name located at 8927 Herlong Road - same great food and service here like the restaurant. Second there's another food truck with a slightly different name "TreeMendous Sea and Soul Food" - good stuff as well but entirely different menu. TreeMendous BBQ Express serves up a delicious mobile menu of lunch BBQ plates - sandwich, lunch and dinner portions. You can pick from Beef, Pork, Turkey, Robs and Chicken and a slew of sides - baked beans, cole slaw, potato salad, Mac-n-cheese, and French fries. All sandwiches served with 1 side and drink. I chose the Chicken Feast BBQ Sandwich meal with Mac-n-cheese. The pulled chicken BBQ sandwich was very savory and perfectly cooked with a soft sesame seed bun. The Mac-n-cheese was tasty cheesy and definitely not "from the box." A couple things that were evident: food is quality and this is reflected in the meats that are smoked daily and the homemade sides. Service is fast and the food is nice and hot delivered at the pickup counter. This is a good BBQ food truck to be on the lookout for. You'll enjoy this "TreeMendous BBQ!"

Today they rolled into my office parking lot with an oxtail special, a plate loaded with fall-apart oxtails, jerk rice, green beans, and cornbread. I added mac and cheese because a good carb plan requires commitment. Plastic utensils seemed like a bad match for oxtails, but these bones surrendered at the slightest nudge. The meat was rich and silky, full of flavor, and entirely too good for a desk lunch. The sides were no afterthought. The mac and cheese was creamy and indulgent, the green beans properly seasoned, the jerk rice fragrant and bold though a few grains resisted the bite, and the cornbread leaned sweet, closer to cake than bread, in a way that felt like dessert was already built in. You could pass by this truck without a second glance, but you'd miss a meal that demands your attention. 4.5 out of 5 stars Soul food this good deserves a table, not a parking lot.
