Birrias

I popped in here after having tried a number of taco stands in Kensington Market. I hadn't heard of the place but really appreciated that there wasn't a huge line up or unfortunate music blaring. The place has a really chill vibe, very low key and extremely friendly. I had the tacos birrias and a Guava Jarrito. Overall the food was extremely tasty and the consommé satisfying. Perhaps a tad too much salt but nothing to really complain about. The tacos were filling, cheesy and also stacked with very mild onions. I would love to know there they source them because they were really mild and impressive. Overall a really solid spot that I would return to. There are no tables, so it's stand up or high stool.

I'm so glad that Tacos 101 reopened. I used to go to their location on Dundas East before it closed. They had the best baja fish tacos I've ever had. I finally had a chance to try their new location, and they did not disappoint. Their menu is even a bit bigger now and they have birria tacos. The portions are a bit small than they used to be down on Dundas, but understandable with rising food prices. Still a good price, and very authentic tasting.

Although it's a small store, it has nice tacos and nice decorations. I also think it's a good deal compared to other Toronto Taco stores.

Walked in to an empty Taco 101, early yesterday (Tuesday). I had a concert to go to and wanted tacos badly before I went. The dude working was super nice and recommended the carnitas, the chicken and the birria. I don't really eat pork, so I went with the other two. Honestly? Really really good. I've had tacos out in California and my wife's family is Mexican, so my standards are pretty high. These passed my test, and I really recommend them. Horchata was good too.

I haven't tried them all... But definitely a TOP taco spot for Toronto. Some places are charging $9+ for a single taco!?! 101 has them about $6... still a lot for a single, but that's 2022; nuthin cheap! Chicken (pollo), excellent! And carnitas

Their chicken tacos was flavorful and meat was tender, their hot sauce is really hot so try a little first before you put a generous amount in. Must try if your in the Kensington street area.

Service was good nice and friendly and we got our food fast. Atmosphere was good the music was nice and the vibes were good. The food was amazing I got the Al Pastor and Carnitas tacos and it was great. The home hot sauce was delicious and I'm not a huge spice fan. Overall great spot would recommend.

Tacos 101 has some of the best tacos in Toronto even though it's surrounded by other Taco places in Kensington Market. I have tried most of their tacos: Carnitas, Al Pastor, Pollo Adobado and Pescado. I still need to try their Birria tacos and Nopal tacos though. I love their Carnitas and Al Pastor tacos. It's a very small space in Kensington that they share with their sister store, Fruta Libre. I suggest you try one of their drinks. This place is highly recommended!

Birria

Had the birria taco. It was good, not great. Also, pricey. Beef wasn't really seasoned well. Consome was very good though. Overall good and I would try different kinds next time.

Great new taco spot adding to the nearly half dozen scattered around the market, Tacos 101 makes me happy to have all this choice. No need to wait in a line at 7 lives, with 101 within a stones throw! I went last Friday after this place being open only a couple weeks and with limited hours I was lucky to get in before they closed at 7pm. The Pescado (fish) taco I had was fantastic! A bit pricy at $7 but was on the heavy side for the fish content, and turned out to be all I needed to eat at that point. They recommend two tacos if you need a meal, but one of these is substantial. The rest of the tacos are $6. The next night again they were closing at 7pm, so we rushed down and tried another selection right before closing. This time I tried the Al Pastor, which is the roast pork taco, garnished with a slice of pineapple, which was divine! My daughter had the chicken, which she loved, saying it was better than Good Hombres (sadly closed, at least for now), whew! what an endorsement right there. With the colourful interior, great atmosphere, friendly staff, and partner making some fantastic Mexi drinks, I can see myself becoming a regular here. Bravo, for the brave new after-world here in Kensington!

Came across this local restaurant, and decided to get a small snack. The mango with chamoy was something I've never tried before, but I would definitely get again. P.S - not for picky eaters!!

My wife and I brought our daughter to Kensington market for our taco adventure. We started our adventure here and it did not disappoint. We tried a taco Al pastor, a chicken taco, and a Birria taco and they were all amazing packed with meat and the taco fillings. They were very generous with their taco meat and other toppings. Coming to Tacos 101 was the highlight of our taco adventure. The gentleman preparing the tacos was very friendly and recommended the Al pastor and Birria tacos. I also noticed some Mexican local snacks nearby where you place your order. There is a seating area. Not only did the gentleman recommend the Birria tacos but in addition he did mention that they specialize in the Birria taco, surely enough it was the best taco I had during my entire Kensington market taco tour. I'm definitely coming back here on my next visit to the Kensington area! I highly recommend you come here and try their food.

Finally something interesting happening down at Front Street!…read more I love the set up! The Popup vendors! Just the whole idea and concept and it is well executed! Here you can get a snack, a drink, a full meals from some of Toronto's most popular business/restaurants and some of them don't even have a store front! Price might be a little more than getting from the original store but you can get everything here! Tacos from Mad Mexician, Burger from Holy Chuck and especially the over hyped Uncle Tetsu Cheesecake was served as individual portion and no line up when I arrived around 10:30 am. There is also a nice seating area with entertainment. This is better than any food trucks or any of the gimmicky events I been to that required an admission fee and it will be here till end of September! Too bad Toronto's summer is so short! Enjoy the experience while you can and hopefully this would be a constant yearly event from now on!

Well you can put all those things behind you (for now) because for the most part the area is all cleaned up and fully functional. On top of this, they added some real street cred by dropping a food market right smack in front of front (get it!). Front Street Foods, offers a vast selection of treats for travelers looking to grab some food in a pinch or locals just looking to try something different. Before I sound like a travel brochure, just know that most of the options prior were either McDonald's, or Mmmm Muffins. Not gunna hate, but sometimes a guy needs to treat himself knowmsayin? Anyway, I got it started with a Fried Oyster Bao from Yolo. Yes, YOLO the acronym designed and made famous by our very own Drake. You know, Drake, the type of guy who cries when cutting carrots so that the onions won't feel alone. Yeah that's the one! This place has nothing to do with him besides the horrible name of the food stand, but yeah that Fried Oyster was aight. Next up was Uncle Tetsu for dessert. Now this is where things get even better. Not only was there NO LINE UP for the cheesecake, we were also able to purchase the new Matcha Green Tea for the first time. I was great, really it was, but that's not the end of it. Uncle Tetsu, was actually there in the flesh, dancing with fans and openly taking selfies with people. What a great guy, I wish we all had an Uncle Tetsu in our family. Check out this joint, before the summer is over and it turns into a mound of snow obstructing your walk in December, YOLO. Toronto needs more of this and less of Drake. You know, the type of guy whose eyes roll back in his head when he eats chocolate.

Marianne's is THE BEST place to get hotdogs / street meat in the city!…read more Located right in front of Mount Sinai Hospital, this vendor's been here for years and is really an institution here on Hospital Row. And in the last couple of years, Marianne's expanded to feature a wider range of food - it's not just hotdogs, people! She offers baked potato and sweet potato, which you can order on their own OR for those who eat gluten-free: the potato is a GREAT option to swap in place of a bun. You can have any of the meats topping a potato! Marianne's is also in partnership with another Toronto institution, The Barberians Steakhouse, has produced sandwiches that use their spices and meats. Such as roast beef, pulled pork, and soups when in season! Featuring affordable wild game meats like: Bison, Elk, and Wild Boar. These are very tasty and perfect for those who want a little bit more sophistication. All these meats come from local Ontario farms! It's no wonder she's been featured in publications like The Toronto Star and Edible Toronto Magazine! If you get to meet Marianne herself - you'll find that she is the sweetest person and so, so, so passionate about what she does. She knows the people who live and work in the area. She advocates on behalf of food vendors like herself and is actively involved in working towards better policies in the city. Read more about her philosophy at peacetogetherforever.com

I just finished a two year stint of…read moreworking in Mount Sinai hospital, and despite eating there an average of probably three or four times a week, the selection never got tired. While it's easy to dismiss as just another street meat cart, Marianne is constantly updating her menu and trying out new items to make the menu as diverse as possible. Obviously there is a selection of hot dogs and sausages, then add wild meats, pulled pork, ribs, savory muffins, potatoes, soups, grilled peaches, etc. etc. All of which are delicious. Trust me. I've tried everything. In terms of price, I've had someone mention "You know the one up the street is cheaper right?" To which I responded, "Yeah." Marianne's is definitely worth the extra dollar or whatever slight difference it might be. Plus when Barbarian upped the cost of their meats, Marianne still offered good value by creating the Love Plate (consisting of a wild meat and jerk chicken with a baked potato for $6 or so) All around really amazing innovative stuff. Then the most important point of all - Marianne herself. She is possibly one of the nicest people I've met in the city who has a natural sense of warmth and familiarity the second that you meet her. Every transaction is very personal, and it's wonderful to see how she interacts with such a wide array of people be they doctors or patients or construction workers, homeless, children finishing school, Marianne constantly has good rapport with everyone. In a core area of the big city, I find it amazing how someone could create such a small town neighborhood feel - A la Mr. Rogers. Marianne is a huge proponent of community which you can see with her Peace Together Forever movement as well as her heavy involvement in the Street Food Vendors Association. All around amazing lady. Also should mention that everyone else she's brought on to work the stand are also extremely friendly and seem to cater the same attitude. Apologies if you bothered to read this whole thing and found it rambly, but I'm soon to be leaving the city, and I wanted to shed some light on one of my favorite spots, I'm definitely gonna miss it!
