While we were walking to another destination, we stumbled upon this relatively new taco spot. It's not brand new, it's been around since 2023, but we decided to pop in and grab a carne asada taco to sample and share, since we didn't want to get too full before our meal. I don't have Mexican cuisine all that often, but this taco tasted just as flavourful and authentic as the ones I've had in Mexico or at some of the more well-known spots in Toronto for their authenticity. I really like that they added a piece of radish to the taco to make it more fresh. It also added to the experience seeing others enjoying their meal, some Spanish-speaking diners adding to the vibe and making feel like I found a solid spot. Service was prompt, and definitely don't skip the sauces and salsas on the side, they really elevate the taco.

Los Compas has really nice employees and fast service. The restaurant is small, but there was enough seating when we went. I got a torta and my partner got tacos. Overall, it was just alright to me. The food was kind of plain to me, but the salsa and pico de gallo was tasty and fresh.

You know how sometimes, you just want tacos for brunch because they're cheap, tasty, messy, and just a fun way to start a weekend? This is a fast, casual, made-to-order taco place that's perfect for people dining with friends or alone. While the vulcan wasn't our favourite, the soft tacos were so good, and so was the guacamole with tortilla chips! Side note: the washrooms here were much nicer than expected!

Los Compas is the first taco joint in Toronto that I found to be legit. This was my first time trying them so I played it safe and ordered two things. I got the Al pastor taco and carne asada quesadilla. My food was ready within a few minutes hot and fresh. Al pastor has great flavor and not too greasy and the carne asada quesadilla was fire. Both were loaded with meat which is nice cause they aren't cheap. Living in Florida I have access to cheaper priced amazing tacos so I have a bit of a bias but these for Canadian standers are pretty good I would come back again.

GENEROUS with the guac. The asada steak itself was so tender and juicy. The vulcan is the one I get which has melted cheese on a crispy tortilla (basically a tostada). Theres also salsas on the side of the restaurant for you to add your own spice level. A simple place thats typically for to-go but I found it really worth!

I have been hesitating about writing this review for the past 3 months. The truth is, the food was not as impressive as the other reviews suggest, and definitely on the expansive side of the fence. To give context, I went at about 9 pm on a weeknight by myself. I decided to order 4 tacos on corn tortillas, one of each, plus a drink and the featured dessert. Personally, I thought the tacos were a bit bland, to the degree I couldn't tell which protein was which. The tortillas also lacked texture and were a touch stale. I will, however, admit that the desert was great. The total came to a bit more than 50$ (about 30-35$ without the desert), which is definitely on the expansive side of what is offered in Toronto. If we look at Gus, for example, everything is 1-2$ cheaper. It doesn't seem much nominally, but in total, that averages to ~20% price dip. What I am trynna say is it's hard to justify these prices when the food isn't remarkably better, especially since there are so many good options just 500 meters away in Kensington Market. I acknowledge I'm not Mexican, and maybe my taste buds simply don't appreciate the quality of this spot. It's also possible I was one of the last customers and got some produce that had been sitting a bit longer than usual. That's why it took me so long to write this review. I could not reconcile all the other amazing reviews and my personal experience. It made it even harder that the cashier (the owner, I suspect) was incredibly nice and friendly. Nevertheless, I believe these reviews are only useful if they are honest. Thus, this is my honest review. I'll make sure to revisit to sanity check my first experience, and correct this review accordingly.

Stopped by recently and we got a few different tacos (corn or flour). I love their menu system and how its like a spreadsheet hahaha. I got the cactus and pork taco. They have some sauces on the side as well. I enjoyed the pork more than the cactus because the pork had some slices of pineapple on top and I am definitely biased towards pineapple! My partner got the chicken and steak and both tasted great as well. There is quite a bit of seating available and they also have highchairs as well for little ones. The customer service was great and staff took the time to explain the menu well. Will be back!!

This is a new and (already) popular Mexican restaurant! "Compas" is Mexican for good friends or buddies. It only soft-opened on 2023-12-09, and they were sold out in 2 hours because customers came back for seconds! The interior is bright with many tall tables and stools. There is a table where orders are taken. Then you go to the area where they put topping on your order so that you can tell them what toppings (onions, cilantro, salsa, guacamole) you want. Behind there is an open kitchen so you can watch them prepare food. All food is made to order. You can also see them make the soft tacos (you can choose between corn or flour) for each order. The pork (Al Pastor) is on a spit. For their cactus, they actually start with a fresh cactus leaf, cut off the prickly parts, and grill them. All their food is made fresh daily or to order. For drinks, they have Aguas Frescas ($4.00) with three different flavours: horchata, jamaica, tamarindo. There are also Mexican pop ($3.50). They sell different types of Mexican food: tacos, quesadillas, burritos, bowls, volcanes, torts, and gringas. They can choose the main ingredient: Al Pastor (marinated pork), Azada (grilled steak), Pollo (chicken), and Nopales (cactus). The Azada is usually only $0.25 more than the other 3. We ordered the following: 1. Horchata Agua Fresca ($4.00). 2. Chips & Guacamole ($6.50). 3. Al Pastor Taco ($5.25). 4. Nopales Taco ($5.25). 5. Azada Torta ($11.25). Along one wall, you can help yourself to any of their 4 salsas. The drink was very good. I absolutely loved the Al Pastor Taco. The marinated pork very delicious, but they also added some sauce (probably the liquidified guacamole) that enhanced the flavour! The Azada was chopped into little cubes and was tender. A Torta was quite filling by itself. The customer service was excellent and always with a smile. Their grand opening will be on 2023-12-16, where there will be free tacos and a Mariachi band from 16:00-18:00. There was free WiFi. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible. Because of the high tables, they are not wheelchair accessible. The washrooms are gender-neutral neutral and wheelchair accessible. There is paid neighbourhood street parking. Review 2023-392

Los Compas, located near the intersection of Richmond/Spadina, serves up Mexican eats (think tacos, burritos, tostadas, etc.) in a casual environment. This family-run Mexican spot is becoming a local favourite and I can definitely see why! A fellow Yelper told me about this place and I had to check it out myself. I stopped by for lunch on a Wed. The menu is simple where you can choose your protein and the style you want to eat it in. I chose 3 tacos (the al pastor (marinated pork), asada (grilled steak), and pollo (grilled chicken) as I was quite hungry. I opted for the corn tacos as well (corn all the way!)! For drinks they have Mexican sodas or even Mexican coke (in a bottle!). I decided to get the Jamaica aguas frescas (staff were so friendly that they let me try a small sample before I decided to purchase it!). My tacos were made to order and prepared fresh. I didn't have to wait long as I heard my order number being called. On the side there are some salsas and hot sauces for you to grab if you'd like. All three tacos were delicious - the meat was not dry at all and my favourite ended up being the al pastor taco (usually al pastor tacos elsewhere often are dry, but the pork was still tender and juicy). The pineapple also added a refreshing element to the taco. Service wise, staff were friendly! Overall, great new Mexican spot near Queen/Spadina. Delicious Mexican eats! Definitely recommend this neighbourhood gem and cannot wait to return for more!!

Absolutely underrated taco spot in the city. The tacos are hot and fresh, packed to the brim with meat and other ingredients, and have such good flavour!! Get the Al Pastor and take advantage of the free salsa they always have available.

Casual taco spot conveniently located just off Spadina! Taco prices are pretty standard. We got some al pastor(pork) and asada (beef) tacos with corn shell, plus guac and chips. The total for 4 tacos plus guac and chips was around $35. Everything was good, I liked that they were generous with toppings so the tacos weren't dry. The al pastor tacos were my favourite! There's a self serve station to get salsas and radishes. There's a good amount of seating, with coat hooks under the tables. Two washrooms are available, on the ground floor so accessible. Friendly staff, very welcoming, smiling, and asked us how we were enjoying the food. Recommended if you're looking for a quick bite!

As a fast casual taco joint, Los Compas does a great job of delivering delicious tacos efficiently. It reminded me very much of Los Tacos No 1 in New York, where they have traditional style tacos loaded with onions, cilantro, guac, and a bit of salsa. The steak was by far my favourite; it was so juicy and bursting with flavor. The other meats I found to be a bit on the drier side, but still pretty good. They also have some incredibly good salsa; the red and green salsas packed a punch flavor wise with just the right amount of heat. Overall I'd say this is a great new spot that brings something different yet delicious to the taco scene in Toronto, and I can't wait to come back.

Awesome new Taco joint downtown! In a previous weed shop on Richmond in sight of Spadina we now are graced with a fantastic new Mexican restaurant called Los Compas, which means friends or buddies. With floor to ceiling windows onto Richmond, and a bright airy space inside there is good curb appeal which is important in this rather desolate area just off the beaten path. With its cheery interior we see hand lettered and painted signs on the walls with a large clear menu as the first thing upon entering. Choose from al pastor, asada, pollo and nopales, each with their English translation below (see pic), then you choose the style of each of those, whether it's taco or something else. I ordered the asada taco, along with guac and chips and a Mexican coke. That was about $20 with tip. The food is perfect here! Nicely seasoned meat and tasteful toppings, along with the zona picante which has a couple sauces, radishes (never tried those before) as well as pico de Gallo (fantastic idea to have this free range). You can see thru the open kitchen how they hand make each corn taco shell upon you ordering one. The shells are then cooked fresh and taste like it too. When I commented on the Trompo (translates from top) they explained that the Lebanese brought this idea over to Mexico hundreds of years ago which the Mexicans picked up as a good way to cook the pastor. Also available are three different house made drinks (like punch) which you can see named in my picture of them. I tried a couple and they each are worth trying. I really appreciate the attention to detail seen at Los Compas and wish them continued success in this challenging location. They are on the right track!

The inside was nice, it was dark with ambient lighting and decorated with a modern and Mexican theme. The waitress was super nice, and the staff were fairly attentive. We got the chips and guac to start. I do wish they gave a little bit more walk because it came in this really small cup so we had to go light on the guac to chip ratio. But overall the guac was yummy and the chips were very crunchy with a nice seasoning. They have a special every day of the week and Thursdays are there crunch tacos, which are hard shell tacos, wrapped in a soft shell taco with some sauce in between, and you can choose between their chorizo or chicken. We got one of each. I liked the chicken more but my partner liked the Chorizo. And all the toppings the perfect Fixin's. They only had three washroom stalls, which were gender neutral, and I thought they were relatively clean.

You enter the restaurant from a set of stairs outside and the restaurant doesn't look too appealing from outside. Also, the restaurant always seems busy and/or small, so it's always loud and service is slow. With the negatives out of the way, let me explain why I love La Carnita! The food is amazing! Their tacos are on point, and with so many to choose from I can go back multiple times can never get bored. Each of their tacos has something different to offer and each has relatively good balance to them. The balance of freshness and savory (and sometimes sweet) toppings is well done, making me come back for more. The one item that pushes La Carnita over the top is their nachos! Homemade nacho chips with gooey cheese and a generous amount of toppings makes them my favorite nachos in Toronto! One last observation is that the service is always friendly. They may be (very) slow at times but they seem like they always try their best and are always quite pleasant. Overall, I love La Carnita and when I get a craving for tacos and nachos, I'm heading straight here!

Hacienda is located on College Street, very close to Sneaky Dees, in a bit of a tucked away, inconspicuous location. The interior is fantastic and the atmosphere is authentic. There are a lot of reviews that knock this place for service, but that's not really the point of this restaurant. It's a family run place where the focus is food and soccer (when it's on) if you need something, you may need to call the serve over yourself, but that's no big deal cocerning the food. The tacos are the best I've had in the City. At three tacos for $12, it's hard to go wrong. After reading some of the previous reviews, the beef tongue was an obvious choice. I'm not too big in beef personallty, but the meat was so tender and almost melted. Next was the chorizo taco. It was fantastic. The chorizo wasn't overly salty like in a lot of other Mexican restaurants, which made a huge difference. The flavor was deep and rich, and paired perfectly with the salsa. Lastly was the carnitas. It's hard to make carnitas as good as Seven Lives, but wow, these were something else. The carnitas were tender, juicy, and perfectly crispy. The corn tortillas were also made in-house and were fresh and delocious. The servers also bring two sauces to the table - one salsa verde (green salsa) and one hot sauce. Both were great but be careful with the hot sauce, it's a heavy hitter! Pro tip: get a Mexican Coke, it's amazing! Hacienda is the best taco place is the City. Seven Lives is a close second, but Hacienda has them beat in terms of authenticity and flavor. Put this place on your go-to list, it will it dissapoint. 5/5
