Taco Rio was listed as one of the best restaurants in Chicago for food and drinks. I stood in line for about 45 minutes. You place your order at one window, they give you a buzzer to notify you when your food is ready and if you want to buy a drink you have to go to the next window and place an order. The drinks are made while you stand there. I ordered the Pollo tacos and the street corn. I wish there was a option where you can mix the three taco up, but you can't. I also tried to just order one taco and the guy told me that I had to order three. I ordered a strawberry margarita. It was good not too strong just right. I loved the street corn. After finishing the street corn, I was only able to finish one of the tacos. They offer to-go boxes, you have to ask for them. There is no indoor sitting. They do not take cash. read more

La Paloma cocktail: 4/5 (too much ice, couldn't taste the alcohol but it wasn't overly sweet) Carne Asada taco: 0/5 (flavor is there but overcooked and dry) Crispy fish taco: 0/5 (no flavor, no salt) Elote: 0/5 (corn-on-cob with seasoning and cheese on top; tasted wack) How do you make a taco with no flavor?!?! Their sauces are also trash. Lacks flavor. Overpriced for nothing. $7 for 1 damn taco?!? I guess you are paying for riverwalk views. Can't believe I wasted $31. Stumbled upon this place while out exploring with friends. It's an amazing view along the river. The drinks were good and the food looked good, but unfortunately I was unable to try it. Service is pretty slow, you have to stand in line to order both food and drinks, took about 25 minutes to get 2 drinks as the two people in front of us both got the margarita flights and there was only one bartender (crazy on a Saturday afternoon lol) . We tried to get food, but were told the kitchen was backed up and they weren't taking anymore orders for another 15 minutes, so that was disappointing. This was my last meal in Chicago before moving after 3 1/2 years. When I tell you that this was a disappointment to tacos worldwide, that is an understatement. First, they only used one corn tortilla. Second, each taco was seven dollars. Yes, you heard me correctly. Third, the tacos were so flavorless, and the meat was extremely dry. On our way out, we noticed by the water stations that there were a variety of sauces. The waitress did not let us know of this which was extremely disappointing. We did not try the cocktails, but maybe those are better. I gave two stars to give them the benefit of the doubt, since they are new and figuring things out. Tinga taco was my favorite. So flavorful and tasty would recommend. We ordered a pitcher of margaritas but they were too sour and limey. Pretty quick service. New spot right before you enter the riverwalk. They had a dj which lightens up the mood. read more

Long lines and honestly not worth it. Al pastor tacos mid the meat itself had no flavor and absolutely not the Mexican Al pastor you're expecting. The pineapple on the tacos and salsa is what made it taste alright. Would I go again and wait a long line? Nope! Drinks are expensive not that much alcohol in the drinks so not worth it. There was zero liquor in the margarita. Literally just lime juice. I got 2 tacos(chicken and steak) the chicken was ridiculously salty, and the steak was burnt and had a lot of fat on it. And the employees were sitting in the reserved section in their work uniforms passing a bottle of tequila back and forth, so maybe they drank all the tequila and that's why none was in my margarita. It's getting towards the end of the season and I had pretty high hopes for this place when it first opened but it hasn't gotten issues sorted out and I hope the owner will read this and make adjustments. The biggest problem is what other reviews have said continually. The tacos are DRY. There is no amount of side sauce that you can dump on these tacos to fix how overcooked they are. And to add insult to injury, they're $6 a pop. There's no way you should consider coming here if you're in the mood for tacos, especially when there's places that make them so much better for less money. Price isn't a huge issue for me when the food is worth it, but this is anything but. Next, they are always out of the Chef's Specials. The one redeeming grace here used to be the carnitas; they were the best in town. They were always "sold out" aka a weekend only thing and I was just told that they are no longer offered period. They were overpriced but delicious. I wish they would make this more of a staple on their menu but it sounds like they're gone for good. At this point, the only thing that Taco Rio has going for it is the ambience. Sometimes they have a DJ spinning great music, but it's not enough to make up for bad food, bad prices, and inconsistent service. Just a disappointment all around. I hope next season can turn things around. read more

Friend and I stopped by for drinks and tacos. Both weren't good at all. There aren't any wait staff to take your orders to your table. The music wasn't all that either. Asada tacos were really chewy and unseasoned. The Al pastor had also zero flavor. The spicy margaritas just tastes like a regular lime. This place was way better last year and they used to have the best spicy margaritas and we were so disappointed by everything. Safe to say we will not be going there anymore. read more

Honestly I was disappointed. It is a very cute spot right on the river, but there were a few issues. For one, more expensive than it should have been. Food was very mediocre and not cheap. We had at least one of every taco they offer in addition to a pitcher of the spicy and house margaritas. We had a larger party (8) and we were seated right away. The chips and guac/salsa were amazing. I could keep going on about the tacos, but they were also amazing. Margaritas were not watered down and definitely worth it. Patrick, our waiter, made the experience even better. If you're one the river walk and pass this place up, you're missing out. Great summertime vibe on the river walk. The menu wouldn't load on my phone and my table ordered their drinks already. I was under pressure and indecisive. The waitress asked if I like margaritas. "Yes". So she suggested I try the margarita sampler. I said sure, thanks for the suggestion. In the moment I pictured 3-4 small margaritas that would in total make ~2 drinks. Please tell me why one of their workers DROP KICKED THIS MOUSE AND THEN GOT HALF THE KITCHEN STAFF TO COME AND LAUGH AT IT. THIS HAPPENED LIKE 2 FEET FROM WHERE WE WERE SITTING!!!!
