Great place. My wife and I have been coming here for a few years now. Keeps getting better and better. You will see people complain about price, but the reality is you're downtown on the river. TacoRio has awesome food, drinks, and vibes. read more

I used to walk by and grab food And a frozen drink once a week or so. Because I live close by and walk my dog by it every day. This year not only did the food change to terrible quality but the prices went up AND there is a surprise surcharge automatically added at the end. So an 18 pina colata now costs 25 dollars with all the fees and it was not even that good. The drunken bean is right around the corner with a better pina colads for 11 dollars, same size. They are going to lose regular business and customers quickly if they dont reassess quality, inflated prices and hidden charges. read more

GREAT tacos. Super nice owners. Million dollar view. I LOVE supporting local small Chicago restaurant owners doing their thing. It's hard running a small business. Thank you to the owners (who are brothers) for sacrificing their time, energy, and money to provide an awesome place to hang out on the riverwalk. read more

Stopped here parched & tired from so much walking. Wanted a little nosh before dinner, and their nachos with chicken were tastier than expected for a mass touristy Riverwalk joint. Of course, two small beers & said nachos set me back 38 bucks with tip....ouch! read more

Taco Rio was listed as one of the best restaurants in Chicago for food and drinks. I stood in line for about 45 minutes. You place your order at one window, they give you a buzzer to notify you when your food is ready and if you want to buy a drink you have to go to the next window and place an order. The drinks are made while you stand there. I ordered the Pollo tacos and the street corn. I wish there was a option where you can mix the three taco up, but you can't. I also tried to just order one taco and the guy told me that I had to order three. I ordered a strawberry margarita. It was good not too strong just right. I loved the street corn. After finishing the street corn, I was only able to finish one of the tacos. They offer to-go boxes, you have to ask for them. There is no indoor sitting. They do not take cash. read more

amazing place I love this place food and drinks are delicious and workers are amazing

WORST chicken quesidilla I've EVER had and that is an accomplishment since I'm counting Taco Bell. Plus the prices are outrageously high. The only good thing is the location since it's one of the only restaurants near the Chicago River leading to some boating tours like Anita Dee Yacht Tours read more

the best place to get drinks and hang out on the water!! so much fun for a girls night out and chilling with friends.

I'll just get straight to the point. EVERYTHING I ordered was trash except the la paloma cocktail. La Paloma cocktail: 4/5 (too much ice, couldn't taste the alcohol but it wasn't overly sweet) Carne Asada taco: 0/5 (flavor is there but overcooked and dry) Crispy fish taco: 0/5 (no flavor, no salt) Elote: 0/5 (corn-on-cob with seasoning and cheese on top; tasted wack) How do you make a taco with no flavor?!?! Their sauces are also trash. Lacks flavor. Overpriced for nothing. $7 for 1 damn taco?!? I guess you are paying for riverwalk views. Can't believe I wasted $31. The cooks need to be fired, retrained, or just shut down lol. I don't know where these "positive" reviews are coming from but something isn't adding up. The overall look is pretty and colorful. Good job on that. I would say run and don't come here. End of story. read more

While in Chicago, I wanted to see what the rave was about regarding Taco Rio & I must say they won me over too! I absolutely loved this place and highly recommend it! It was on the water, right in the heart of downtown Chicago. I was able to enjoy a perfect day, walking along the river and enjoying good food and drinks with friends. The service was good, the food was delicious, and the drinks were strong! I look forward to going back real soon!!! read more

The tacos here are yummy (if you can actually get a waiter by your table to put in an order for you though). Took some time for our drinks to come out and once they did it took some time to put our food in. The tacos, margs, and guac were delicious though. Maybe go at a slow time? At least there's a nice view of the river and city! read more

This was my last meal in Chicago before moving after 3 1/2 years. When I tell you that this was a disappointment to tacos worldwide, that is an understatement. First, they only used one corn tortilla. Second, each taco was seven dollars. Yes, you heard me correctly. Third, the tacos were so flavorless, and the meat was extremely dry. On our way out, we noticed by the water stations that there were a variety of sauces. The waitress did not let us know of this which was extremely disappointing. We did not try the cocktails, but maybe those are better. I gave two stars to give them the benefit of the doubt, since they are new and figuring things out. However, there are way better taco places, especially at the price point. I actually I'm not sure that I've ever paid seven dollars for one single taco with one corn tortilla layer. read more

Tinga taco was my favorite. So flavorful and tasty would recommend. We ordered a pitcher of margaritas but they were too sour and limey. Pretty quick service. New spot right before you enter the riverwalk. They had a dj which lightens up the mood. read more

Long lines and honestly not worth it. Al pastor tacos mid the meat itself had no flavor and absolutely not the Mexican Al pastor you're expecting. The pineapple on the tacos and salsa is what made it taste alright. Would I go again and wait a long line? Nope! Drinks are expensive not that much alcohol in the drinks so not worth it. The atmosphere is nice. Cute little setting. If you wanna go try it go experience it. Btw carne asada tacos were better than the Al pastor tacos. read more

There was zero liquor in the margarita. Literally just lime juice. I got 2 tacos(chicken and steak) the chicken was ridiculously salty, and the steak was burnt and had a lot of fat on it. And the employees were sitting in the reserved section in their work uniforms passing a bottle of tequila back and forth, so maybe they drank all the tequila and that's why none was in my margarita. I don't need to go back. read more

By far the best Mexican food I have had outside of California! I was searching by for a good burrito and finally found it ! Asher was amazing and made the trip to Chicago worth it. We'll have to come back on the next cross country trip just to eat here again read more

It's getting towards the end of the season and I had pretty high hopes for this place when it first opened but it hasn't gotten issues sorted out and I hope the owner will read this and make adjustments. The biggest problem is what other reviews have said continually. The tacos are DRY. There is no amount of side sauce that you can dump on these tacos to fix how overcooked they are. And to add insult to injury, they're $6 a pop. There's no way you should consider coming here if you're in the mood for tacos, especially when there's places that make them so much better for less money. Price isn't a huge issue for me when the food is worth it, but this is anything but. Next, they are always out of the Chef's Specials. The one redeeming grace here used to be the carnitas; they were the best in town. They were always "sold out" aka a weekend only thing and I was just told that they are no longer offered period. They were overpriced but delicious. I wish they would make this more of a staple on their menu but it sounds like they're gone for good. At this point, the only thing that Taco Rio has going for it is the ambience. Sometimes they have a DJ spinning great music, but it's not enough to make up for bad food, bad prices, and inconsistent service. Just a disappointment all around. I hope next season can turn things around. read more

Great food , drinks & people take it your order are really confident & nice I really recommended this place 100%

Only come here for the views, mediocre Carne asada tacos, overpriced drinks, some items get sold out. Loaded nachos has cheese, jalapeños, cabbage, tomatoes, and sour cream. Bus boy keeps asking if we were finished even when he sees our pitcher was still full and we're still finishing our food. Not coming back read more

Nice location but I didn't love my food. I ordered the elotes & the corn tasted old. Or maybe I just don't like elotes (that was my first time eating it). My husband ordered the carne asada street tacos & they tasted good. read more

Overpriced and and mediocre food. There are so many taco spots in Chicago and to open a business charging people almost 25 for a meal for baby portions is ridiculous. read more

Friend and I stopped by for drinks and tacos. Both weren't good at all. There aren't any wait staff to take your orders to your table. The music wasn't all that either. Asada tacos were really chewy and unseasoned. The Al pastor had also zero flavor. The spicy margaritas just tastes like a regular lime. This place was way better last year and they used to have the best spicy margaritas and we were so disappointed by everything. Safe to say we will not be going there anymore. read more

Honestly I was disappointed. It is a very cute spot right on the river, but there were a few issues. For one, more expensive than it should have been. Food was very mediocre and not cheap. Drinks were fine, but also overpriced. My biggest issue... the spiders. Spiders EVERYWHERE. Huge spiders all over the tables, chairs, and the river fence. read more

We had at least one of every taco they offer in addition to a pitcher of the spicy and house margaritas. We had a larger party (8) and we were seated right away. The chips and guac/salsa were amazing. I could keep going on about the tacos, but they were also amazing. Margaritas were not watered down and definitely worth it. Patrick, our waiter, made the experience even better. If you're one the river walk and pass this place up, you're missing out. The owners are also always present and make sure it is a fun and enjoyable environment. read more

Cons: super pricey (it was around $75 for a couple tacos, chips and a drink. But hey, that's Chicago I guess) The kitchen/system "lost our food" so everyone that got there after us, ate before us. When we asked our sever where our food was, he asked us "who we ordered with" .....yikes. Our server also asked us to pay after we ordered, so we tipped 20% before our experience. Also don't love that. Pros: location! Good music! I want to give this another try to see if we get better service next time around. read more

Great summertime vibe on the river walk. The menu wouldn't load on my phone and my table ordered their drinks already. I was under pressure and indecisive. The waitress asked if I like margaritas. "Yes". So she suggested I try the margarita sampler. I said sure, thanks for the suggestion. In the moment I pictured 3-4 small margaritas that would in total make ~2 drinks. A size that is typical of "sample". My fault...I did not ask questions or think this through properly. Out come 4 full size margaritas for $40. Kudos to her - sly sales lady. But as a waitress, deceit isn't part of the trade. I'm one person, the rest of my table ordered so you know I'm the only one drinking. Do you really suggest that as "a" drink?? Annoyed. Also only kinda liked 1 --the other three were smoky, spicy and too sweet. Nothing I like. My bad, but also hers. read more

I WISH I COULD GIVE THIS PLACE A ZERO STAR!!!! As we were eating our below average tasting OVER priced taco we saw a mouse run by... whatever. Please tell me why one of their workers DROP KICKED THIS MOUSE AND THEN GOT HALF THE KITCHEN STAFF TO COME AND LAUGH AT IT. THIS HAPPENED LIKE 2 FEET FROM WHERE WE WERE SITTING!!!! Trying to enjoy our taco as we watch this poor mouse fight for its life while being laughed at clearly upset us bc we aren't psychopaths. Then one of the staff as we move seats laughingly says "sorry ladies" like that's not an uncommon thing at this restaurant. Once we sat we tried to finish our $20 drinks as fast possible we saw 3 MORE MICE RUN THROUGH!!! I will never come back this place is gross and ran by people who clearly are new to the service industry. $80 to be completely disgusted and upset. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy!!! read more

Mediocre food with high price tag. The view is nice and so was the live music. That's about it.

End of the season as the bartender said so I wasn't expecting too much. I think it was fairly decent. The river is of course right there so I sat at a table right next to it.
