I have no idea why I never reviewed this place. all i know is about 2.5-3 years ago I was in the credit union, standing inline next to this man that smelled so good. i asked where he just had eaten at b/c the smell was all over him. he told me he owned a taco place -get this: right across from the street from taco bell. he told me to come by and try them and it would be on the house. so you now i couldn't refuse. The owner hails from cali and he makes it his mission to serve authentic cali tacos. complete with this amazing hot sauce and fresh cilantro. the place is a little stand, but they have their own tiny parking lot and a little place outside to eat. the tacos are packed full of fresh ingredients. i almost gave place 5 stars. but i am really hard to please. while i have spoken very highly of their fresh ingredients i hate that the tacos are so small and they are sold at around $1.50/ taco. they also have amazing turkey burgers, and quesadillas etc. you must check this place out. you know it has to be good, if it has survived 3 years being right next to taco hell. read more

Never judge a book by a cover is a cliche that holds true here. At first glance, Taco Pete is a shady, little shack and overshadowed by the Taco Bell bully one foot away from it. A David and Goliath situation if you will. After deciding to be adventurous, I gave Taco Pete a chance and was modestly impressed. I had a hard shelled beef taco, a soft shelled chicken taco, and a chili-dog. And each was fair. The soft shelled chicken taco stood out the most for its soft yet crunchy tortilla shell. Its only downfall was that the chicken tasted like it was boiled in water for days. The tacos each had lettuce, onion, cilantro, and sriracha-like taco sauce. Service was amicable as Kris remembered our names and waved us a friendly goodbye as if we were long-time friends. However, I would avoid this place during busier days as the wait can get long and the service feels a little more rushed. Other observations: This place has a lot of variety ranging from turkey burgers, wings, burritos, and so forth. There is a nice seating area with shade. Prices are as cheap as they get. read more

On 11/3/21 , I visited the restaurant after normal lunch time (230 approx) , Once I placed my order , I preceded to my vehicle to take a work call. After 15 mins I went to stand close to thr order seating area to wait while on the phone. I then heard my name called along with many negative and unprofessional comments via the microphone system about me being on the phone and not listening for my name/order . I made the comments to that male person that I did not hear my name . He continued to talk disrespectful as approached the window. I was ecstatic to try out Taco Pete's. I think these type of places is what Yelp is all about. Finding that hidden gem of a place around town that is just not promoted enough or under the radar. Stumbled across this place called Taco Pete. Read the reviews. I was in "awe". THis may be it. Don't get me wrong, I love the ambiance (or lack their of). A won building shack, a wall up stand type of place at the fork in the road with like 4 parking spots. The prices are pretty good for what you can get (see my pictures). It is best to call in advance so you can pick it up when you get there. Now, I would have to try more of their food items because the word is their wings is great. I will need to check that out. For what I did have, their beef taco and shrimp taco. Unfortunately, they weren't the best. Don't get me wrong, they weren't terrible but I've had better. I wasn't feeling their service either. Came across standoffish. I would hope that when you go to a place like that, they would be all smiles. That kinda made me be petty with their stars on this review. Would i be back? Sure. I'm from LA and we call these hood tacos. They are not authentic but they are on point. These are kind of tacos ya mom makes at the house. I recommend you get the soft shell over the hard shell. The hard shell is Taco Bell quality but the soft shell are on point. I got the hard shell chicken and beef and a soft shell shrimp. I can't lie the soft shell shrimp was one of the best tacos I've had in Atlanta. The shrimp taste fresh and blends well with all the ingredients. I would order the beef and chicken again but they would have to be soft shell to do them justice. read more

When i saw taco pete i was like....woah smack dead in the middle of the road!!! (weird but oookay) I ordered the pastrami sandwich it was falling off the hoagie bread! So tender, and full of flavor!!! The mustard, onions, jalepenos set it off and made my tastebuds EXCITED!! My sister/in law had 2soft corn shell taco's chicken, and beef..with all the fixings, cilantro, onions. We couldnt talk just chew and look at each other! We were so happy to find a place familiar to us coming from California, though these racis are the homemade in house kind, they are bomb !! The flavors here bring back memories of home. The street tacos from S D or TJ are authentic baja california tacos, but the flavors of taco pete are still a delicious find. read more

This place puts out really good food. Doesn't matter what I get I'm not dissatisfied. But the downside to this place is don't expect to much customer service. Just expect to order and eat. The tacos here were 5 star flavor, but the lack of meat and price earns them at a 4, from me. There were only 3 shrimp in each for $3 taco, and although you may expect that from The Cheesecake Factory, you shouldn't have to from a local joint. I had 2 chicken and 2 shrimp, all 4 soft, but I could have easily eaten 6. Maybe they could offer a 3 or 6 pack for a lower price, and that would make them a 5 star to me. read more

The one star is not to rate the good but the customer service! The food is amazing! Customer service is horrible! I called in my order but called 2 mins later to make a change ( literllay 2 mins). When I made it to the window the cook found it necessary to chastise me about making s change because he was "wasting" food! My go to here is the beef hard shell tacos. The freshest of the pico de gallo, lettuce, and the light air taco shell. They put the sauce on for you which is enough for me a little bit of heat compliments the Taco really well. The staff is very friendly and finds a way to engage into personal conversation with you while you are placing your order. Depending on what you order you should have to wait more than 5 to 10 minutes obviously things are going to be additional time because I do make everything to order. Lately.. the lines can get really long and depending on what you order you can wait a pretty minute. The quality is totally work it. They say you can call ahead but, I have never been able to get someone one the phone. Parking is super limited because this place is very popular. You make have to circle around a couple of times. I don't take pleasure in writing negative reviews but I'm absolutely mad! I cannot believe the service I received. Aside from the staff being friendly which accounts for the one star Taco Pete gets nothing else from me. I literally placed an order at 11:59 am waited patiently but noticed around 12:30 my order still wasn't up. Keep in mind, I was there before the lunch rush began. Now I do respect and understand cooking to order to ensure the quality of food but this is ridiculous. I inquired about the time and the associate working the window said my order wasn't up yet. How? I honestly doubt he even took the time to check. I've seen people before and far behind me get their orders. People who weren't even here when I placed mine. Than I noticed other customers complaining about the same thing. I observe one of the complaining customers ask for a refund as she was understandably frustrated. When I saw it was 12:40 I returned to the window with my receipt, pointed to the time...11:59 am and asked for a refund too. There is no way almost an hour later...a six piece wing/fry combo, a plain hot dog and one soft shell taco is not ready. I'm not feeding an army it was a simple order. Than the associate ask me to hold while he continued to hand out orders as if I wasn't inconvenienced enough. None of which was mine. I knocked on the window again and demanded a refund now. He looked at the receipt confused and than spoke with other staff members. Clearly my order was overlooked but my debit card wasn't when you took payment. Apparently part of my order was sat by the register getting cold as he picked up the container and motioned to me. Like seriously!! I don't want no cold, half fulfilled order and the mere thought you even looked in my direction as if that was ever an option is absurd. I reiterated I want a refund. Another staff member came over apologized and honored my refund which was fine. However, considering the mistake and lack of concern for wasting my time. Here are some suggestions that would have been a nice gesture. How about offering to cook fresh hot food, comp my order or at minimum offer me an incentive for a future visit. None of these actions happened. That's customer service! Saying sorry after wasting my time and than making me wait even longer for the refund and having the audacity to offer me some cold food at my expense is unbelievable. I'll take my business elsewhere. It's not about the oversight, mistakes happen. It's about how you handled the mistake. Hopefully others will have a better experience. To say I'm disappointed would be the least. That said, I'd have to be starving and desperate to give this establishment another dime and believe me I have given them many. Never mind the some-timey attitude you'll get from the young lady behind the window, just order, pay, wait and leave. You'll get over it. First-time Taco Pete customer from out of town and loved it! Had the shrimp quesadilla and a rice & bean combo. Quality was excellent!! I was served by Rio and he was exceptionally friendly and while speaking to him I noticed how clean the kitchen was. Service was fast for a made to order joint. Only minor complaint was that it was a chilly night and had to eat in my car since there is no indoor seating. Not an issue for me. This tiny bright yellow walk up taco stand is great and prices are reasonable. The soft tacos are awesome, semi fried corn tortillas are soft with just a touch of crunch, (my next visit I'll focus on those). The beef and bean burrito was quite large and stuffed with all the trimmings....I love the unique taco sauce sauce. The wings are good and priced right! Depending on the day, you may experience a wait greater than expected but it's worthwhile. Very friendly staff and ample outside seating. I'll be back the next time I'm in the area. read more

I stumbled upon this gem while trying to get to the taco bell across the street! Parking is hard to find during lunch, so I parked at the taco bell and walked. You order at the window and wait for them to call your name, there is only outdoor seating under a awning. I ordered steak, beef, and chicken tacos all soft. The soft tortilla is fried!! A pleasant surprise when my tacos came out, and it was able to hold all the ingredient in well without getting soggy. Chicken - 5/5 - probably the best chicken soft taco I've ever had. I am not a big chicken fan---so I wasn't expecting much, but this ended up being my favorite taco out of the three. I can't exactly point out what I like about it, besides that it is juicy and flavorful. All the tacos come with lettuce, tomatoes, and hot sauce. Beef - 4/5 - the beef taco was also veryyyy good, and would definitely get again. Flavorful beef, with good texture and flavor. Went well with the normal toppings and hot sauce. When you drive by this place, unless you usually seek out sketchy dives with no indoor seating, you would not think of stoping here for food. For me, three things made me finally give it a try: 1) nice weather (outdoor seating), 2) word of mouth from the workplace, and 3) the word "Taco". I love tacos, and Taco Pete's may be some of the best in Atlanta. I recommend sampling several but would suggest more soft tacos than hard. The "soft" taco is actually a slightly fried tortilla, delicious, just the right amount of crisp while still being somewhat soft. It's part of what makes their soft tacos so good (along with fresh and flavorful inner accompaniments) The hard tacos are more your typical hard taco shell from Taco Bell. The chicken is probably the best, followed by the shrimp. Multiple companions I've been there with have spoken highly of the quesadillas as well; They did look good and will probably be my next try. They also serve a taco burger that recently was called out as one of "Atlanta's best 8 under-the-radar burgers". For $2.75, I'll be trying it! Bon appetit. read more

This happened between 5:30pm and 5:50pm. October 6, 2018, the same employee as October 8, said, "we will be closed for about 15 minutes". I am not feeling good about Taco Pete. Okay, so I've lived in East Point for almost six years, and I've passed by this place a million times. However, it wasn't until a couple of weeks ago that I finally decided to try out the food. Yes, it is a hole in the wall - looks like a little shack, no indoor seating, minimal outdoor seating - but the tacos are AWESOME! I've had the chicken and shrimp tacos. The shrimp tacos are really good, but the chicken tacos are my favorite. Everything is perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. I don't eat beef or pork, so I can't comment on the other tacos; but I've recommended the place to friends and family, and the consensus is that the food is excellent! I usually get the wings combo with two shrimp tacos (all the way) and I am never disappointed! Prices are AWESOME too! Keep in mind: Its a walk up establishment (outdoor seating only) Parking can be tight. Call ahead on your order, the food is tasty but it takes a while for them to get the orders out. If its a nice enough day I would call my order ahead and then just enjoy it on the outdoor seating. I went twice last week and once today, though I brought my lunch to work! Like another Yelper lamented, I should have stopped at this place MUCH sooner than I did. I'm always looking for cool spots to go grab a bite south of 1-20, and this is another fantastic East Point find. Its not much to look at from the outside, although the restaurant is colorful and quaint, it definitely sticks out amid the other restaurants in East Point. The food is flavorful, fresh...and cheap! Like, I'm having a hard time figuring out how Taco Pete can offer such high quality food at the prices that it does. A taco will run you about $1.50, and while the Taco Bell across the street (literally) is much cheaper, its also Taco Bell. Its not just tacos here though, their wings are incredible (and once again the cheapest I have found)! Its a great little Mom&Pop. The owner is extremely friendly, the place is always clean, and even though you have to wait a bit for your food (especially the wings, which they cook fresh to order), its worth it. Literally, the best tacos I've ever had! I stopped there on a whim when I was in the area. I tried the soft beef taco and the soft chicken taco, and added sour cream. The tortilla is lightly fried. The fried tortilla adds the best flavor to the taco. It's already got some type of salsa on it so it didn't need any fixing up. It was so good. If you guys see this review please send me a free taco. This review will be short. The food is really good. The price is a little steep but it's worth it. I've only eaten here once before and I was overcharged for onions, $1.50 for just onions added in my quesadilla. First off, the wait is hella long and they NEVER answer when you try to call in. Today we drove 20 minutes to get there and waited in line for 15 mins and they were out of Pastrami. That's why we called first, this is what we wanted. We asked the cashier when will they get some more and she didn't know anything.
