I had a chicken burrito and it was pure perfection. I can't give a review on anything except for the burritos. This was delicious. It was tender and the sauce left me craving more. The place isn't the most upscale place. But these kind of places have the best food. I think next time I may try a shrimp or steak burrito but this 1 burrito was so big I couldn't finish it in on sitting. They don't skimp on any ingredients. Very bad customer service. The staff is rude and disrespectful. I tried to call in a pick up order and some rude girl didn't know if they accepted take out orders or not. The thing I like about this place is that they're open late. And the food is good. Quick and easy Mexican dishes to make any body happy. Everything from burritos to quesadillas to papas fritas, to boxes of Jumex and other specialties to boot. It's surprisingly a comprehensive menu for such a small establishment. But I've been here a handful of times, each time after 10pm, and the place is always at least half full. One thing really bugs me is the presence of a Discover credit card sticker on the door. They don't take Discover here. In fact, I'm pretty sure they don't take credit here. (I would not be surprised if they COULD, but choose not to.) Only debit. So bring cash or a credit card. Otherwise, the burrito I'm eating is warm and filling. Tasty asada wrapped up in a gently grilled flour tortilla with all the usual trimmings. It's totally hitting the spot. Dive, baby, dive... Tortas Ahogadas is at the corner of Old Dixie Hwy and I-75 in a cramped convenience store parking lot. If it weren't for the neon signs the restaurant has in their window you probably wouldn't even notice the place was there. Even if you did notice you may not even be compelled to stop because I gotta say that whether you're black, white, brown or yellow, the people passing through here look a little rough. You know, some of the best meals of my life have started off this way.... Tortas Ahogadas (I didn't order a torta so I'm still not sure what they're drowning in) from the inside is a small (and none too fancy) restaurant that harmoniously bridges that strange gap between take-out and sit down dining. The tables are few in the small dining area but what they do have are booths and they're comfortable at that. You order at the counter and in addition to the regular menu there are handwritten specials of the day. While the menu looked great, I was immediately drawn to one of the daily specials: Costillas Verdolagas Verdolagas or Pigweed as it's commonly called here in the US...now there's some authentic Mexican cooking you don't see every day. What arrived at my table was excellent. I mean seriously excellent. The ribs were falling off the bone tender and the slightly tangy, slightly salty, flavor of the verdolagas was a perfect match to the pork. The portion was enormous and the price was very reasonable. Tortas Ahogadas also delivers -and- I believe they are open 24 hours a day. Big bonus! The cucumbers they give are a bit old and soggy. Cucumbers are supposed to be firm. This junk looks and feels like it's been sitting in water soaking.... So this place is cool if it's like 3:47 am and you don't want waffle house. It's actually like a Mexican waffle house. But the tacos are decent, customer service is okay, but get something simple because the girl who takes orders acts like she can't understand when you said no cheese, I always end up find freaking cheese on my burrito. Saturday, November 6, 2021 - I had gotten a burrito to go from this gas station taqueria once before and it was good, although the restaurant is not even that clean and well-kept. That should have registered as maybe not the best place to eat. I was craving a good homemade burrito for dinner. I drove down there and was looking forward to a tasty treat. When I walked in, I saw a hand-written sign on the counter that had about four point of info on it. The first said they had to raise their menu prices because of the pandemic and shortages getting a lot of what they serve. The last point said there will be a 15% charge on all orders. No explanation on why this was. I asked if I could dine in and the girl said yes but that would be an extra charge. I said, I will just get something to go. I look over the menu and decide on the burrito pablano which has three meats but didn't say anything about the chili? I asked for a small Tamarindo aqua Fresca too. The girl starts ringing up my order. She charges me $4 for the $2 small aqua Fresca. The burrito on the menu was $8.75, but she rang it up as $11.75, then informed me my total was $22.57. I said What? She said, Oh, the burrito has three meats in it so that is $2 each for two added meats. Stunned, I looked at her and said, I am not paying $22 for a burrito and I turned around and walked out. She replied in an insincere, deadpan voice, Well, you have a nice evening.
