Needed a late night food spot on my way home and really wanted tacos. To my surprise this place is open 24/7 so it was an easy pick. The reviews were decent so I figured why not give it a try. It's attached to a gas station which gave me pause but I decided to try it anyhow. When we walked in, it immediately smelled like cigarette smoke. In any other instance I would've turned around but I was so hungry and there was actually a lot of foot traffic so I proceeded. The spot itself was crowded with boxes everywhere and it felt super grungy but I knew what I was getting myself into. Ordering and getting my tacos was pretty easy - made to order but came out quick. I settled on some chicken tacos. Once I got home I was slightly disappointed. The chicken really didn't have any seasoning and flavor. Once I added my hot sauces it was good but I just wanted a little more flavor to work with. I came in and ordered 3 quesabirria tacos. It took almost 30 mins to receive. I drove home and didn't look into my to go box until I was in my kitchen. I opened my tacos to see how they were looking and there was absolutely no cheese at all. Cheese is one of the main ingredients of a quesabirria taco. How did you forget that? Now let's get to the worst of it all. Before I thoroughly picked through the meat I started tearing the 2nd layers of the tacos off to prepare to eat it because I don't like to eat a double taco shell. I was gonna take the L and just add my own cheese until I realized about 70% of the "meat" was fat and the weird connective tissue looking stuff ( the fat is the lighter parts in the meat mixture and look at the stuff I was stretching in my video). So now I'm taking it back for a refund. I let the cashier know it was mostly fat, and I was there for a refund. She took it back to the kitchen, returned trying to see if I wanted something else on the menu, and I told her I didn't want anything else after my experience with the tacos. At this point she has an attitude and asked me did I have my receipt like she didn't just see me 15 mins prior. After going back and forth with me she hands me $14 when the cost was $16.83. I told her she shorted me and she goes back and forth with me again. I showed her the receipt. She accused me of eating one of the tacos and you couldn't pay me to eat those scraps! She asked for the money back she already gave me before she would give me the right amount back. I did and then she hands me $16. I went off and told her I wanted every dollar of my money back and she tells me to have a good night and walked off. Clayton County just happened to be in the parking lot dealing with something else so I went out and talked to a officer about coming in to assist me with getting my refund. I went back in and told her that she can either give me my other dollar or deal with the officer when they come in. She finally gives me the dollar and says you're obviously broke and you need it. Baby let's be clear, I probably make more in a day than what you make on your 1 week check. It's about principle. Y'all made me waste my gas, my time, and gave me poor quality scraps. Nothing tastes fresh ever, their aguas "frescas" are just koolaid or packs of sugary drink mix from the store. The place itself is just sketchy and a little scary. During my order, I noticed some unforeseen additional charges and found it hard to hear the cashier, who spoke quickly and softly. I had a chicken burrito and it was pure perfection. I can't give a review on anything except for the burritos. This was delicious. It was tender and the sauce left me craving more. The place isn't the most upscale place. But these kind of places have the best food. I think next time I may try a shrimp or steak burrito but this 1 burrito was so big I couldn't finish it in on sitting. They don't skimp on any ingredients. They only have 4 sitting tables available if needed to sit and eat your food. No room for you to stand and wait for takeout. One person working the counter. I am a very picky individual so if a restaurant gets 5 stars from me it's because the food and it's taste and quality had to be exceptional. Upon walking into the restaurant I observed how clean it was. Yes the seats are a little dated but this place has an old world charm and coziness about it. The staff was not grinning from ear to ear BUT the young lady was very attentive and helpful. They have a dessert case that's to die for, cakes, flan and other pastries. The thing I like about this place is that they're open late. And the food is good. Quick and easy Mexican dishes to make any body happy. Everything from burritos to quesadillas to papas fritas, to boxes of Jumex and other specialties to boot. It's surprisingly a comprehensive menu for such a small establishment. But I've been here a handful of times, each time after 10pm, and the place is always at least half full. One thing really bugs me is the presence of a Discover credit card sticker on the door. They don't take Discover here. In fact, I'm pretty sure they don't take credit here. (I would not be surprised if they COULD, but choose not to.) Only debit. So bring cash or a credit card. Otherwise, the burrito I'm eating is warm and filling. Tasty asada wrapped up in a gently grilled flour tortilla with all the usual trimmings. It's totally hitting the spot. Even if you did notice you may not even be compelled to stop because I gotta say that whether you're black, white, brown or yellow, the people passing through here look a little rough. You know, some of the best meals of my life have started off this way.... Tortas Ahogadas (I didn't order a torta so I'm still not sure what they're drowning in) from the inside is a small (and none too fancy) restaurant that harmoniously bridges that strange gap between take-out and sit down dining. The tables are few in the small dining area but what they do have are booths and they're comfortable at that. You order at the counter and in addition to the regular menu there are handwritten specials of the day. While the menu looked great, I was immediately drawn to one of the daily specials: Costillas Verdolagas Verdolagas or Pigweed as it's commonly called here in the US...now there's some authentic Mexican cooking you don't see every day. What arrived at my table was excellent. I mean seriously excellent. The ribs were falling off the bone tender and the slightly tangy, slightly salty, flavor of the verdolagas was a perfect match to the pork. The portion was enormous and the price was very reasonable. Tortas Ahogadas also delivers -and- I believe they are open 24 hours a day. Big bonus! The cucumbers they give are a bit old and soggy. Cucumbers are supposed to be firm. This junk looks and feels like it's been sitting in water soaking.... Saturday, November 6, 2021 - I had gotten a burrito to go from this gas station taqueria once before and it was good, although the restaurant is not even that clean and well-kept. That should have registered as maybe not the best place to eat. I was craving a good homemade burrito for dinner. I drove down there and was looking forward to a tasty treat. When I walked in, I saw a hand-written sign on the counter that had about four point of info on it. The first said they had to raise their menu prices because of the pandemic and shortages getting a lot of what they serve. The last point said there will be a 15% charge on all orders. No explanation on why this was. I asked if I could dine in and the girl said yes but that would be an extra charge. I said, I will just get something to go. I look over the menu and decide on the burrito pablano which has three meats but didn't say anything about the chili? I asked for a small Tamarindo aqua Fresca too. The girl starts ringing up my order. She charges me $4 for the $2 small aqua Fresca. The burrito on the menu was $8.75, but she rang it up as $11.75, then informed me my total was $22.57. I said What? She said, Oh, the burrito has three meats in it so that is $2 each for two added meats. Stunned, I looked at her and said, I am not paying $22 for a burrito and I turned around and walked out. She replied in an insincere, deadpan voice, Well, you have a nice evening.
