3 stars for the food and cleanliness of the establishment 1 star for the haphazard customer service I've been in GA 5 years and this Mexican place was SEASONED AND REALLY DAM. GOOD. Like you could smell good food cooking. I've tried Pollo Asados at a few places and they just didn't have the grilled chicken flavor, and they didn't have onions or jalapeños, all fails. El Arroyo was authentic, the grilled chicken was giving exactly that grilled TODAY. Seasoned, grilled and appropriately charred, onions and jalapeños tender. Oh AND FRESH. The beef tacos were very seasoned and NOT DRY. OH, almost forgot the 2nd best part... their beans and rice is made with vegetable oil not lard, I didn't try the beans cause I didn't want to risk it but I did taste a spoon on rice and it was seasoned and flavorful too. My sister who doesn't eat pork either did have the beans and she hasn't said anything about feeling any kind of way but she did say they were good. 1 star I understand you want to make sure I know what I'm ordering, trust me I do. It becomes combative after awhile. I've been eating authentic Mexican food all my life. With that... I can't wait to try more items from the menu. read more

My friend said this place was great and she loved their sopes, so we decided to grab some for lunch. This spot is located in a small plaza and hard to miss. It was busy during the early afternoon with many call in orders and locals stopping in for lunch. I recommend calling your order in, unless your dining there. I just ordered a chicken sope, which did not disappoint. It was hot, fresh and a nice portion for $4. Chicken was seasoned well and was layered with lettuce, sour cream, cheese, tomatoes, and pinto beans! Honestly I could've eaten 2! They do lots of affordable family size meals with whole chickens that seems really popular as well. That's next on my list of things to try out! read more

Our office has had this place a couple of times... We've only tried the pollo asado meal. It's really good. Will definitely order again for our next office lunch. Only downside will be not enough salsa cups with big order. Also you have to pay for paper plates. Other wise I would rate 5 stars. read more

This spot has been here for a while now I just never tried it until today I use to eat at a Mexican food restaurant on Jonesboro road but they closed for business so I had to seek out a new spot and I stumbled upon this place and I've very happy I did my favorite go to is a chicken Chimichanga and when I say this one was delicious it was so tasteful and filled with flavor the chicken allow was so good and seasoned the rice and beans were good. I will be returning I also order Mexican style tacos and enchiladas combo. I will be returning to try more. It wasn't busy but I suggest you call your order before u get there you still might have to wait but at least you called ahead lol read more

Water finds its level, all rivers lead to the ocean, and being an unrepentant Mexican food junkie and taco sleuth my visit to El Arroyito was just as inevitable. This restaurant is located in the former home of "The Chicken House": a Mexican restaurant that had a pretty good thing going until they moved over to the 'big time' of Jonesboro road and were hit with an unfortunate case of suck that they seem doomed to recover from. The decor of El Arroyito is simple, the service slow....bordering on absent, but unlike most mom and pop Mexican restaurants you can actually have a conversation and hear yourself think here. If you need to get caught up on your Telenovelas, or you're trying to move into that next tier of hearing loss, then this may not be the place for you. The menu is pretty sizable and they cover a lot of Latin American ground from Pupusas to Posole with a whole alphabet in between. When I saw BBQ goat on the menu I smartly closed my menu and felt like my stuff had been turned up to 11....until I read the fine print and saw that it's only offered on the weekends. Man, one second you've got a popsicle and the next you're just holding the stick. I went with enchiladas with red sauce ,my time-honored measuring stick for Mexican restaurants, and my girlfriend got Fajita Tejanas. The food took forever to arrive and when I snagged a completely unseasoned piece of beef off her sizzling skillet, I was disappointed and afraid things weren't going to end well. Then it got real. What sets El Arroyito apart and makes them better than average are the sauces. The enchiladas were glazed with a thin and tangy sauce that confounded my taste buds with a complex riddle of Je Nous Se Qua. Tomatillo? Vinegar? Couldn't put my finger on anything except that what I was dealing with was surely legit. The fajitas came with a roasted green jalapeno dipping sauce as well as a dried red chile casera-style hot sauce that tasted like the pure blood of the land. It took about 15 mins for the food to come out. The food is cooked to order and all the chicken flavors are delicious, tamarind, almond, diabla, regular. Half chicken will be enough for 2 people and it's all worth it. They speak Spanish of course, good attitude and deliciousness all around. read more

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant. I truly enjoy the food, because of its authenticity and flavor. The service is friendly and they make you feel like family. Even though it is a Mexican restaurant, one of the ladies in the kitchen is Dominican and will sometimes whip up a Dominican dish when requested, IF they aren't too busy. Their chicken soup is delicious, as well as the grilled chicken. The enchiladas, gorditas, and burritos are also very good. The sandwiches are delicious. My niece moved to Texas, but she can't visit without going here to have their Texas nachos. I guess they're better than Texas!!! The horchata is delicious, and one of my favorites are the Mexican steak tacos. If you order them, make sure to ask for the authentic tacos not the Americanized version with lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese!!! This place is a true gem, if you enjoy authentic Mexican food. This place honestly has to be the worst taqueria Iv ever been too as a Mexican this is so disappointing. Not only was the service horrible They have roaches and bugs. They also take large orders for your event "grilled chicken" with all the fixings; rice and beans sides and salsas, even tortillas to complete your order. You must call and prepay well in advance (Because yeah they tend to be slow) depending on the size of your order. I have ordered up to 20 pollos, I recommend that you call them before your pick up time to let them know you are on your way. "In case they forgot" but indeed the wait is well worth it, your guest will be leaking their fingers thinking you cooked the meal, and all you do is make a short drive to Jonesboro! read more

Not many people know about this place, but it's sooooo goooooood. I usually get 3 tacos. 2 chorizo and 1 asada. It's in a sketchy area and the decor isn't too great. But hey, foods good. Service is good. No complaints. read more

This place was HORRIBLE! Went for the first time today. My refried beans were burned when I asked for more they said 15-20mins and offered no discount or different option. I tried the chile rellenos which is basically just a stuffed pepper. The waitress kept trying to tell me I was confused about what it was when I asked what kind of meat came in it and offered me enchiladas and burritos... totally not the same thing so it was annoying. I also had fries, they CAME OUT brown soft and cold. The peppers were gross so I gave it back said I didn't care for it at all. The waitress said u still have to pay for it... which I never said I wouldn't. Lastly, I asked for some xtra queso for my chimichanga which I tried and it was actually pretty ok but they literally brought the block pieces of cheese out UNMELTED! I used to eat here all the time as the food reminded me of home but today will be the last time I ever eat here again. I asked for an order of Nachos Texanos without vegetables. That would include Nachos with cheese, chicken, shrimp, and steak (minus vegetables: green/red bell peppers, onions and tomatoes). I had a fairly large order so I did not notice that the chef included tomatoes on my order until I reached my home. I've been coming here for over three years so I felt confident in returning to the restaurant and returning the meal, as it was incorrect. Well, I was wrong . . . I returned my food and received a refund, only after arguing with the chef, the owner, the cashier, the owner's son, and several other people on the staff. The owner refused to return my money because, "this is a business" and proceeded to be really rude while answering the phone to take other orders and mocking me as I waited. Went in ordered lunch , they brought me my chips and salsa went to put salt on my chips and the salt had baby roaches in it !!!!!! I almost threw up needless to say I gave it to the waitress and walked out . I will never return ! read more
