We were looking for some lunch and this place had raving reviews so we thought we would give it a try. The location is great, very central in the downtown area where we were walking trying to get to know the city. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, which we opted to sit outside to take advantage of the sunshine. We got several different tacos and some cheese curds (when in Rome! Sort of). The food was a little underwhelming. We were expecting a lot more given the raving reviews we had referenced. For the quality they were pricey as well. We ordered Taco Mikes to our hotel on a Saturday night after a long day and wanting to relax in bed with wine, Ozark, and some tacos. Best decision for dinner that night, for sure. This order was delivered SO fast. Like maybe within 30 minutes or less. And everything came hot and fresh. The tacos were super tasty and flavorful. The barbacoa had a little heat which was a nice surprise. All the meat was well seasoned and the corn tortillas taste home made. The appetizers were delicious as well-- especially the cheese curds and fried pickles. Minus 1 star because the meat in the tacos was a little sparse and the al pastor didn't have the pineapple as listed on the menu--which is the best part of al pastor tacos in my opinion. (From September 2021) Rolled in here on a taco Tuesday for lunch since you get your taco fix on Tuesdays. The sign outside plus the colorful menu on the screen enticed me to walk in here. Price wise, the 3 tacos plus a side for $12 is a solid deal. Also added a frozen mango margarita for the meal. The food matches the price as the tacos were average. They will fill you up but flavor wise it's missing some seasonings and substance. The Al pastor was probably my favorite one; the breakfast and carne asada were a let down due to texture and seasonings. The frozen margarita was tasty although it overflowed from the lid so it's gonna be messy when you drink it. While there's other spots to get your grub on, you do get quite a bit of eats with your dollar. Plus they're open late if you want that inebriated taco fix. As a vegetarian, I appreciate when restaurants have intentional options on their menu. Their vegan tacos include peppers, onion, corn, and cauliflower. Sprinkle on some cheese and boom, vegetarian tacos. I did the 3 tacos and 1 side deal with a container of their Diablo sauce - flavorful with some heat! I wouldn't say it was too much to handle. In my discussion with some of the staff about spicy options, they suggested I try their signature Mango Margarita which, I think the red sauce was a hot sauce of some sort. I remember it definitely had a kick to it. Prior to this visit, I had driven by several times, seeing a long line out the door a few times. Usually a good sign that there's something to check out. I visited Taco Mike's tonight which used to be my favorite taco restaurant in Milwaukee. The service was absolutely horrible; food was overpriced and was tasteless and falling apart. I could not believe how rude and unsanitary the person was that provided customer service. She scratched in her dreads and touched food with her hands. She continually walked away when I was talking to her, and her pants were sagging, and she looked very unkept. I paid $40 for 3 tacos and a half tortilla with cheese and a vegan taco with tasteless fries. I will never go back! read more

I have been walking past Taco Mike's for a few weeks now and finally got the chance to try it! We went in to check it out, but decided on carry-out. The ambiance was cool and there was a huge TV set up that would be great to watch a game. We took a second to figure out what we wanted and they were very patient with our indecisiveness. The service was awesome and the menu had tons of choices. One thing I did wish they had was the option for flour tortillas. I don't really care for corn tortillas and they can get a little soggy, so one of my tacos completely fell apart before I even got the chance to eat it. The tacos were good overall. We also tried the poblano poppers as as side and they were amazing (like I would make the trip specifically for an order of those). We also got chips and guac as a side which was decent. Taco Mike's is definitely a great option for a quick bite. We will definitely be back to try it with drinks next time! read more

Don't order Birria from here!...i hade the 3 birria taco meal and a chicken birria taco on the side!...It literally taste like the Beef meat was covered in "red hot" hot sauce which you can see on the meat!...The chicken was just dry and there is no birria flavor on any of them they said it comes with cilantro and jack cheese which is white and there wasn't either of the 2 on there!...the consume was not consume it couldn't have been what the meat was cooked in!...The ride was undercooked... Upon entry at lunch time, the place was empty. A young African American male came from the back to take our order. He had no personality whatsoever, as if he didn't want to be there. I asked questions about the menu and he didn't know about the food or was very vague and dry with his response. I walked outside to get a picture of a menu item I wanted to try and when I showed it to him, he said they don't sell them anymore. I joked about them taking the picture down since they didn't have it and he didn't respond to me at all. I ordered Birria Ramen, Mexican Rice, Elote Bites, and a side of guacamole. My order was around $30. My husband prepared to pay by opening his wallet and going into the bills section. After he pulled out cash, the young man pointed down to a sign that read no cash. My husband joked with him about watching him take his cash out before the young man said anything and the guy still had no response and never changed his facial expression. The food took a while to come out which was surprising because it was only the two of us there. I assume we were waiting for the elote bites because they were fried. Everything looked great and actually was very flavorful. Unfortunately, everything was also spicy and I have a sensitivity to spice so I couldn't eat much. It would be considerate to label which items are spicy on the menu. Most of my meal was wasted because I could not handle the spice. While we sat and ate, the same young man with no personality began to carry on a conversation with his fellow co-workers and his engagement was the exact opposite of what he displayed at the counter. It's very easy to accidentally walk past this store front. However, I encourage you to turn around if you do. Taco Mikes is a great place to score some authentic Mexican tacos. I ordered the birria tacos and was NOT disappointed. 3 tacos was just enough to keep me full for the afternoon. However, I wasn't a fan of the Mexican rice. I've never seen peas in my rice before so that was something different. I'd say that the rice lacked flavor (in my humble opinion) but it wasn't so bad to ruin the entire meal. My boyfriend and I would eat there multiple times during our visits and it was even our first stop during this trip...but this time let us down!! THEY TOOK AWAY THE WINGS!!! The boneless wings just aren't the same as much as I was hoping they would be. We LOVED the lemon pepper bone in wings and tacos during previous visits. Some of the greasiest, flavorless tacos I have ever eaten. There was no difference in the flavor of the 3 tacos I had (birria, chorizo, and barbacoa). Adding a packet of their taco sauce did not help. Very sparse with the amount within each taco as well. Maybe a teaspoon of chorizo. Taco Bell is cheaper and much, much better. $5 a taco??? Tacos for days! I recommend the Birria tacos, meat is marinated well, the tacos are grilled to perfection in a crispy and flavorful tortilla with cheese marrying them in holy food matrimony. A well stocked variety of imported beers and frozen margaritas to get you loose for the rest of the work day. They are playing some throwback 70s/80s feel good music to make you forget it's noon on a Monday and your boss has been harping on you getting your reports done. Leaving a review for the first time because of how legendary this place is. First impression walking in, smelled like the bathroom which I assume was magnificent. Person taking my order didn't know that you could get chicken with a walking taco, and could not find the year on my ID for my slushy margarita. Guy in the kitchen had to remind the cashier 4 times that it was going to take 45 minutes to get more ground beef ready. They had an array of 4 TVs on the wall that were all slightly out of sync, so that was pretty fun to watch. Got my chicken walking taco after 30 minutes, and it came with steak(?) instead of chicken. My friend got elote bytes made out of creamed corn, but it's Milwaukee so that tracks. Didn't eat the tomatoes or lettuce so I can't confirm if they have salmonella or not. 1/5 would go again if I need those special walking taco Doritos bags. read more

Highly disappointed! Placed online order, got confirmation and all, arrived at the restaurant 30 minutes later, and they said they never received it. First off, I stood there for about 10 minutes before even being acknowledged. Once I was, I had to show my confirmation and had to wait for the order to be made. Prices were different online than what they were in person so I had to get fewer tacos. When my food was ready THIRTY minutes later, I looked and my side was missing. As I waited for that to be prepared, I also noticed that there was no dipping sauce included with my two Birria orders, only to be told that they had to make more sauce and didn't have any available at the time. That should have been stated at first! Completely unacceptable. Terrible customer service, terrible ordering process, terrible all the way around. An employee finally told us they weren't serving the bar crawl specials anymore even though we were there an hour before it ended. They said the bar crawl was "too much". We asked if they could charge us the normal price aside from the bar crawl. The worker said word for word "WHAT DONT YOU UNDERSTAND? We're closed for an hour!" We were totally understanding up until this rude comment. They should have just locked up during this time and/or posted a sign outside. Don't waste your time here. Employees had bad attitudes. Heard this was a staple and went to try it. Now I'm 93% sure it's only a staple because everyone who eat's there is to drunk to notice the quality of the food. The person at the register said there was supposed to be cauliflower in my taco and there was basically nothing. The guacamole was literal water (see attached picture). The beans my bf got tasted like they came out of the freezer but they replaced them with guacamole and chips when we said something (shoutout to the dude who did that he was cool). They messed up my order twice and the staff acted kinda annoyed when I said something but I payed $20? Just wanted the food I ordered. On the bright side I enjoyed the elotes bites a lot and my bf likes the quesadilla with the salsa. There was no one behind me line and when the cashier asked my name, I gave it. She asked me to spell it and cut me off and said she was shortening it on the receipt to 1 letter. My name is 4 letters and two syllables. After seeing my name on my badge, she said "I thought it would be spelled weird." I then told her she could've been patient to listen and then she claimed it was her "ADHD." I do not recommend for anyone with a non English name while this cashier works here.
